Microsoft releases a new certification for Microsoft 365 Developers

Another certification that’s been released today, and this one is for an audience that has been ignored for the past 6 years: Microsoft 365 Developers! The name of the certification is the MS-600: Building Applications and Solutions with Microsoft 365 Core Services towards the Microsoft 365 Certified: Developer Associate certification!

Microsoft 365 Developers

Why a new certification?

The last time we had a certification for SharePoint Developers was for SharePoint Server 2013! Ever since, Microsoft Learning didn’t show any love to SharePoint / Office 365 developers for SharePoint 2016, SharePoint 2019 or Office 365. I think a big reason for that is that the landscape for Microsoft Dev has changed a lot, and lots of things were introduced like the SharePoint Framework and the Microsoft Graph. This certification is an awesome opportunity for SharePoint and Office developers to get certified on the latest dev technologies.

What is covered in this certification?

This exam really covers the big customizable parts of a Microsoft 365 environment, from identities, to SharePoint, Teams and Office, as well as the Graph which is cross product! You can see the high-level topics and split below!

Implement Microsoft Identity (20-25%)
Build Apps with Microsoft Graph (20-25%)
Extend and Customize SharePoint (20-25%)
Extend Teams (15-20%)
Extend Office (15-20%)

If you want to see the full and detailed skills tested, you can check them out here: https://query.prod.cms.rt.microsoft.com/cms/api/am/binary/RE43CZn

Certification Path

The Certification Path for this one is easy, you pass the MS-600 exam, and then you get the Microsoft 365 Certified: Developer Associate title!

Microsoft 365 Developers

When can we take it?

The Beta for the MS-600 opens today on November 4th, and you can pass it today as a beta exam, but you will not get the results until the beta is over. Remember, you can also get free exams by attending Microsoft Ignite, or Microsoft Ignite the Tour! Check out my blog post on this to learn more!

Learn more and Discount Code!

Learn more about the exam on the Microsoft Learning page or by clicking the image below! Save 80%  of the beta if you take the exam before December 20 with discount code MS600Middlebury !

Will you go for the exam? Let me know what you think about it, and the topics covered in the comments!

List of channels to watch for Microsoft Ignite Announcements from Microsoft

Microsoft Ignite starts in just a few days, and I have gotten a lot of questions on where people should go to get the official Microsoft Ignite announcements from Microsoft directly during the week and then stay up to date! Here are the main channels that Microsoft will use to communicate the news this week!

Microsoft Ignite Announcements

Tech Community

The Microsoft Tech Community is the home of many product team’s official blog, and there is where they will be sharing in more details stuff announced either in the main keynote by Satya, or in the technology keynotes that follow right after. Here is a list of blogs by technology:

Microsoft 365 Blog
Microsoft Forms Blog
Microsoft OneDrive Blog
Microsoft Search Blog
Microsoft SharePoint Blog
Microsoft Stream Blog
Microsoft Teams Blog
Microsoft Teams Events Blog
Office 365 Blog
Project Blog
Planner Blog
SharePoint Developer Blog
Yammer Blog
View all Other blogs here! (Especially Azure has 20+ blogs depending on team!)

All those blogs have RSS feeds you can subscribe to with your favourite RSS reader! Yo can find the RSS feed at the top right as seen in the screenshot below! You can also add those RSS Feeds as connectors in Teams this way you get the updates for yourself and the rest of the team directly there! My friend Jeff Collins from CoupledTech actually created a Teams Template containing all the feeds that you can get from here!

Twitter

Twitter is a fire hose of information, and will be extremely active this week, but it’s a great place to hear about everything being announced, as well as ask questions to the different product teams / Product Group members!

Vlad at Microsoft Ignite 2019

Microsoft Ignite 2019 is coming up next week, and I am super excited to join over 20,000 IT professionals from across the globe in Orlando! This year will be the occasion of a new badge for me! So far, I have worked as Staff in 2015, Exhibitor Booth Staff in 2016, Speaker in 2017/2018, but this year I will have an attendee pass! This will give me a bit more time to attend some sessions, talk to customers and partners at the Valo Intranet booth, as well as work on some extra fun activities!

Vlad at Microsoft Ignite 2019

Despite only having an attendee pass, here are some of the main things I will do at Microsoft Ignite this year!

SharePointTV with Dan Holme and Jeff Teper on Wednesday

SharePoint TV is something I have only been running for two weeks together with the SharePoint Conference, but on our 3rd episode next week, I am lucky enough to spend one hour with two of the top members in the SharePoint & OneDrive team! This will be a live show in which we will discuss about the latest announcements, and how those impact every Microsoft user out there. We do have a live chat where you can ask questions, so please prepare your questions for Jeff and Dan! You will be able to see us live Wednesday, November 6th at 10 AM Pacific Time over here> https://www.twitch.tv/sharepointtv

Webinar: Hot off the press from Microsoft Ignite 2019 with Vlad and Drew

On Thursday, November 7th, I will run a webinar with my good friend, and Microsoft MVP Drew Madelung! Join us directly on the floor of Microsoft Ignite and be one of the first people to hear the latest news that Microsoft announces . From the Year of Yammer, to intelligent intranets, and enhancements in compliance & security inside Microsoft 365, we will digest the important announcements for you, tell you why they matter, and point you to additional resources that you can take back to the rest of the organization! Register here > https://zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_E89uT30mSHGnxhSXzsjHbw

Certification Exams

If you didn’t know it yet, Microsoft offers one free Microsoft Certification at Ignite! When I originally blogged about this, you could do more than 1, but it has since been limited at only 1 . (Good reason I guess for you guys to subscribe to my blog / follow me on Twitter :P) . Since I was able to register before the limit, I actually have 4 exams scheduled this year at Ignite! I won’t talk about which ones in order to not jinx it, but one thing is for sure, I didn’t have enough time to study for all four of them and feel comfortable, but I will do my best and will share results after the conference!

Find me around the Valo Intranet booth

When not in sessions or doing any of the other three activities above, I will be at the Valo Intranet booth, showcasing Valo to the world! Drop by and say hi!
