NICK APPEARANCES.....DISNEY FROZEN II x FIDM Collaboration Part One: Interview Behind the Scenes Filming Photos

NIKOLAKI designers and FIDM Fashion Design Co-Chairs Nick Verreos and David Paul, at FIDM/Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising Los Angeles, filming special segments for the Disney X FIDM: Frozen II Collaboration

Late last year, we got word at FIDM/The Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising from DISNEY about a possible Design Collaboration in advance of the Blu-ray release of Disney's "Frozen II". The release was slated for the end of February of this year. A decade ago (!), we collaborated with Disney in another wonderful design project for the film "Alice in Wonderland"...

Nick Verreos and Alice in Wonderland X FIDM--FIDM SuperLab Design Show showcasing Couture Gowns from FIDM Designers in celebration of the release of "Alice in Wonderland", 2010

To celebrate the release of "Alice in Wonderland", FIDM put together a "SuperLab" where we had FIDM Fashion Design Graduates create Couture-worthy gowns inspired by some of the iconic characters in the film and story. It was such an OUTSTANDING success that here we were a decade later and Disney was excited about another collaboration.

Disney X FIDM: Frozen II Collaboration:

Nick Verreos, FIDM Co-Chair of Fashion Design

As Co-Chairs of the FIDM Fashion Design Department , David Paul and I headed a special design project where we hand-picked 2 FIDM Graduates to create two Streetwear-inspired looks, inspired by the "Elements" (Fire, Earth, Water, and Wind) in the "Frozen II" film. In addition, David and I also created a Red Carpet-worthy gown from our line, NIKOLAKI , inspired by "Elsa". All the looks would then be displayed for a limited time at the Disney Store (a Window Takeover!) at Westfield Century City (will RECAP on a BLOG post here soon!)...

In advance of the project, David and I filmed some great segments for Disney, talking about the Collaboration, our inspiration, and yes, our LOVE of Disney and the "Frozen" world.

Here are some Behind-The-Scenes Photos:

PROJECT RUNWAY....BEHIND THE SCENES of the Season 18 FINALE: NY Fashion Week Show RECAP!

Fashion Week Nick--Nick Verreos at the Season 18 "Project Runway" NYFW Finale Show, Spring Studios NYC

Back in February, I had the pleasure of working on the Season Finale Episode of Season 18 "Project Runway" . As a Consulting Producer (along with my partner David Paul) on the show, my duties are varied: From assisting in the Casting Process, consulting on the Challenges, the Episodes, being there during the filming of the actual show/competition, making sure anything related to the fashion, the clothes, the construction, the sewing machines/dress forms/pattern tables/workroom supplies are how/what/where they should be. For the Finale, I flew back to NY and Brooklyn, to be part of the final episodes. This, of course, involved the Finale NYFW Show and everything else that comes along with that...

In Part Three of my "Project Runway" BLOG on filming the fabulously EPIC "Avant-garde" Episode at The Vessel Hudson Yards ...it's time for the FASHIONS and photos I captured while waiting...and waiting...and waiting....for the filming top start. We were up pon the top of The Vessel for what seemed like several hours, waiting for production, cameras, the judges....everyone to be ready on their marks.

The models had gotten up to the top a while back and so, I--along with my better half, David Paul)-- were up there with them as part of our Consulting Producer jobs to make sure nothing happened to the clothing. Unbeknownst to the viewers, we were also joined up at the top by a small crew of sewers/helpers. Since we had some time to spend, I decided to do some impromptu photoshoots, naturally...

In Part Two of my BLOG chronicling the filming of this EPIC "Avant-garde| Episode for Bravo's Season 18 "Project Runway", it's time to head right to The Vessel at Hudson Yards , the site of this "Runway" Presentation...

The Vessel NYC, Hudson Yards--Season 18 "Project Runway" Avant-garde Episode, The Vessel Hudson Yards NYC

After we left the "Project Runway" Workroom (Click HERE for that BLOG!), which is in Brooklyn, we arrived at The Vessel in Hudson Yards at around 3 AM. Yes, 3 in the morning. That was the "call Time" for the "day's" shoot. One that would last beyond the 15-hour mark (at least for myself and my trusty Consulting Producer better half, David). The Vessel is this architectural wonder of a building and artwork imagined by Thomas Heatherwick. It is comprised of 154 intricately interconnecting flights of stairs with almost 2,500 individual steps (of which I climbed!), featuring remarkable views of the city, the river and beyond.

PROJECT RUNWAY....."Vessel NYC" Avant-garde Episode Part One: Workroom and Last Looks RECAP PHOTOS !!

Avant-Garde Fab--Designs from Season 18 "Project Runway" Designers (L to R) Victoria Cocieru, Sergio Guadarrama, Geoffrey Mac, and Nancy Volpe-Beringer--Bravo TV Season 18 "Project Runway", Avant-garde Episode, Brooklyn NY

In Episode 12 of Bravo's Season 18 "Project Runway" , the remaining designers (six of them) got the chance to showcase the ULTIMATE in FASHION DESIGN: The Avant-garde Challenge! The designers were tasked to create an Avant-garde look (Fashion Forward, Disruptive, Met Gala-like) as their pre-Finale Look to make the judges see if they were worthy enough of continuing on...

Season 18 Looks from Designer Nancy Volpe-Beringer--Bravo TV Season 18 "Project Runway", Avant-garde Episode, Brooklyn NY

As part of this episode, I was tasked (as a Consulting producer)--along with other show producers--to help set up a "Retrospective" of the remaining designer's looks that they created throughout the season. We were told that possibly Christian Siriano (Mentor and fab designer) would take the designers through these "Design Retrospectives" top see which three designs they would choose for a Pre-Finale Runway Show for the judges. It took a lot to get these set up (finding the right size forms, steam EVERYTHING...correctly put the designs on the forms) but we did it! I also got the chance to take quick photos of the designer's "Last Looks" on the models before we all headed off to The Vessel Hudson Yards , the location of the "Runway Show".

Here are my Behind-the-Scenes Photos of those looks:

PROJECT RUNWAY....."Olympics" Challenge: Design Fabulous Looks for Olympic and Paralympic Athletes: BLOG!

Olympic Style--Olympic and Paralympic Muses (L to R) Scout Bassett, Helen Maroulis, Tatyana McFadden, Kim Rhode, Foluke Akinradewo Gunderson, and Naya Tapper--Olympics Episode, Season 18 "Project Runway", Brooklyn NY

In Episode 11 "Olympic Game Plan" , the remaining designers on Bravo's Season 18 "Project Runway" had to create "celebratory" designs for SIX Olympic and Paralympic athletes: Scout Bassett, Track-and-field; Helen Maroulis, Freestyle Wrestling; Tatyana McFadden, Track-and-field; Kim Rhode, Shotgun Shooting; Foluke Akinradewo Gunderson, Volleyball; and Naya Tapper, Rugby. The designers had the so-called challenge to create custom designs on real athletic bodies, i.e. not your typical Size 0-2 Model types (Thank goodness!)...

It was a BIG HONOR having these Olympic and Paralympic athletes on our set and I, for one, was more than in awe. Naturally, I told them a bunch of stories about my LOVE OF FIGURE SKATING! (too bad there wasn't a figure skater in the bunch!).

PROJECT RUNWAY.....TIE DYE CHALLENGE! Behind The Scenes BLOG: BEFORE THE RUNWAY Photos + Leslie Jones!

Tie-Dye Style--Models in Tie Dye Designs from Season 18 "Project Runway" designers (L to R) Sergio Guadarrama, Nancy Volpe-Beringer, Geoffrey Mac, Brittany Allen, Marquise Foster, and Victoria Cocieru--Season 18 "Project Runway", Tie Dye Episode, Brooklyn NY

In Episode 10 of Season 18 "Project Runway" on Bravo TV , the remaining designers were tasked to created fresh, upscale designs using Tie-Dye! The Tye Dye Trend has been very popular with many designers and brands, including Burberry, Prada, Dior, and Proenza Schouler, so we wanted to see if these season's designers could give it a modern, chic look vs. "hippie-dippy/Woodstock"...

During the introduction of the Challenge, Judge and Elle Magazine editor-in-chief Nina Garcia came out on the runway stage in her very own Tie-Tye look from Prada, to show the point that tie-dye can look elevated and chic--Season 18 "Project Runway", Tie Dye Episode, Brooklyn NY

To help the designers with the Tie-Dyeing...we enlisted the amazing assistance of Metro Dyeing in NYC...they gave the designers tutorials on several different methods of tie-dyeing so they could choose whichever they wanted to do for their upscale designs...

The designers got to chose what kind of textiles to Tie-Dye on from various different textiles we got from MOOD Fabrics, including Duchesse satin, sateen, jersey, cotton poplin, and others...all in white:

The Challenge was an OVERNIGHT one, meaning they were allowed to work OVERNIGHT in order to finish...since the Tie-Dye process can take many hours to dry, we allowed them to do that. So...we provided cots for them to sleep on:

Needless to say, NONE of the designers used them--they all worked throughout the entire night (and so did we the producers!)--Season 18 "Project Runway", Tie Dye Episode, Brooklyn NY

It's Breakfast time!--For breakfast, the designers were provided with "Tie-Dye" Bagels--and Sprinkle-topped Cream Cheese!--Season 18 "Project Runway", Tie Dye Episode, Brooklyn NY
