"A Passion For Fashion" Nick Verreos NYC Book Signing Event--Barnes & Noble at FIT Bookstore
Last week, I had the privilege of flying to New York City for a very special Book Signing Event for my new book "A Passion For Fashion: Achieving Your Fashion Dreams One Thread at a Time" . The event occurred at the Barnes & Noble store located at the Fashion Institute of Technology/FIT. This was the one-time-only East Coast Event for the launch of my book.

I was honored to be there and as part of the event, I gave a lecture on how I got started in Fashion and the Fashion Industry, as well as did a post-talk Meet & Greet Photo-Op...I was especially happy to see some of the designers from "Project Runway" come and support. I cannot thank them enough-- Christopher Palu , Peach Carr , Justin LeBlanc and Season 15 designer Alex Snyder . I am also very thankful for my friends and all the FIT students who also came out in a hot & humid NYC evening to hear me go on and on about my "Passion For Fashion".

OLYMPIC STYLE.....Rio 2016 Olympics Synchronized Swimming Fashion: The Team Costumes--From Motorcycle Biker Gals to Vogue-ing Glam Queens!

Synchronized Style Divas: Rio 2016 Olympics Synchronized Swimming Teams
The finals of the Rio 2016 Olympics Synchronized Swimming competition occurred this past week. Earlier, I discussed my FAVORITE swimsuits/costumes for the Duets competitions HERE and now, naturally, it is time for the Teams...

Aquatic Princesses: I love Synchronized Swimming because of A) the AMAZINGLY precise synchronization of their swimming; B) I'm a fan of these two words "Aquatic Ballet" and C) I love anything involving a pool and more importantly sparkly Couture-worthy swimsuits/costumes. So, here are my favorite Rio 2016 Olympics Synchronized Swimming Team Swimsuits, in no particular order:

Brazil: The Brazil team did their synchronized swim to a "motorcycle biker" theme and I applaud their costume/swimsuit designer. Creating a one-piece swimsuit with a notched collar sleeveless biker jacket--metal buckle and studs--plus a matching belt--and a bottom section that tries to mimic the zip-fly and side pockets of a pair of jeans. And then, each swimmer had a sequined "headscarf/biker handkerchief "...it's all very kitschy, but oh so fun!

Biker Ballet GENIUS--Team Brazil Synchronized Swimming, Rio 2016 Olympics

Russia: Team Russia swam to a "Rhythms of the City" theme. I would rename this to a "Synchronized Swimming Haute Couture in the Pool" theme. Their black and silver crystal swimsuits were exquisite and very Haute. I loved the Art Deco-like asymmetrical crystal details and juxtaposition of sheer/illusion vs. solid paneling. These costumes are very chic, elegant and modern. Very Zuhair Murad and Elie Saab Haute Couture-looking.

Ukraine: I wish I knew what Team Ukraine swam to but just from this photo, they look as if they were about to be Vogue'ing. I loved their swimsuits/costumes for the bold, highlighter-yellow color and swirl-like detail. Very beautiful.

Australia: Here are Team Australia's swimsuit/costumes. They were one of my favorites for their geometric details and great use of the Brazilian flag colors (even though this was "Team Australia"). The front of the costume looked like the bib of a very fancy tuxedo...sans..the bow tie. Very cool.

Egypt: Team Egypt's costumes were very "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band". Not sure if that was their music though (it's difficult to find the music/soundtrack to these synchronized swimmer's routines! Trust me I tried!). I really liked these looks for their bold gold and red colors and fabulously graphic design details.

Japan: Japan's Team swam to an original composition of "more pleasure and sunshine", and their costumes were all that! I loved the neon bright colors and bold large-to-mini- circles.

China: Team China swam to a Brazilian theme and their costumes/swimsuits highlighted the bold aesthetic of the host nation of the Rio 2016 Summer Olympics.
All in all, some beautiful and intricately designed costumes at the event....hopefully at the Olympic Games in Tokyo we'll be able to watch these talented ladies in Primetime!!

OLYMPIC STYLE.....Rio 2016 Olympics Synchronized Swimming Fashion: Best Duet Synchronized Swimming Costumes!

Mermaids, Bollywood, Skeletons...Yep! It's Olympics Synchronized Swimming Costumes!--Rio 2016 Olympic Games Synchronized Swimming Duets
One of my FAVORITE events to watch during the Summer Olympics--besides Gymnastics of course!--is Synchronized Swimming. Naturally, it is because of those bright, sparkly swimsuits! (Oh and yes, those AMAZINGLY synchronized routines!). Now, we have heard (and read) all about the Olympic Gymnastics leotards and how expensive they are. According to this report, they can take as many fittings as a wedding dress and the competition (really sparkly ones!) can cost up to $1200. Frankly, I would charge much more--all those Swarovski crystals, all those fittings, but that's just me! What I am here to discuss today is the Rio 2016 Olympics Synchronized Swimming Duets costumes and some of my favorites. Now, if the gymnastics leotards cost upwards of $1,000, I would assume these numbers have to cost upwards of $2,000!!! here are some of my favorites:

Russia: Russia's Natalia Ishchenko and Russia's Svetlana Romashina won the Gold medal for their Duet Technical. They wore these mermaid-inspired costumes. I loved them. These were flawless and well-designed, and were perfectly matched for their routine.

Japan: Japan's Yukiko Inui and Japan's Risako Mitsui--LOVED the neon bright colors, the graphic designs...the contrast of solid Lycra vs. sheer illusion. All was FABULOUS! The evenly dispersed crystals make for a nice sparkly balance.

China: China's Huang Xuechen and China's Sun Wenyan--China's Duet Synchronized Swimming team performed to a Chinese opera. I thought their swimsuits/costumes were gorgeous. I appreciated the bold colors, the very graphic designs--depicting traditional Chinese Opera makeup and style. These were very impacting and fabulous.

Greece: Greece's Evangelia Platanioti and Evelina Papazoglou--Greece's Duet team wore these black and crystal silver/white costumes which depicted a macabre skeleton. I am not sure what they synchronized swam to but I assume it had something to do with either "Day of the Dead" or Halloween. Either way, I thought these were great.

France: France's Laura Auge and France's Margaux Chretien--Let me guess, they synchronized swam to something "Egyptian". I love these Cleopatra/Pharaoh-inspired looks from France's duet team. The golden colored neck-piece is very reminiscent of something found in Tutankhamen's tomb. If there was any style critique, part of me wishes their head-pieces would have been more like this:

Elizabeth Taylor in "Cleopatra"--But I realize this headpiece might have been problematic for those lovely synchronized swimmers

Mexico: Mexico's Nuria Lidon Diosdado Garcia and Mexico's Karem Faride Achach Ramirez--I absolute LOVE these swimsuits/costumes from Mexico's Synchronized Swimming duet team. Their looks are inspired by Bollywood/India and (I am guessing) the Hindi God Kali:

Synchronized Namaste!

Ukraine: Lolita Ananasova and Anna Voloshyna of Ukraine--Ukraine's Synchronized Duet team -wore these colorful "mask"-like designs. I thought they were well-designed and loved the bold graphic style. Very effective and very nice!

Spain: Spain's Ona Carbonell Ballestero and Spain's Gemma Mengual Civil--Ona and Gemma synchronized swam to Spanish/Flamenco themed music. Their swimsuit costumes were not so overtly "Flamenco Diva" but more subtle in their "Ole!". Nonetheless, I especially loved the very slight reference to the Toreador and Bull as well as Spanish peineta (mantilla comb) seen in the front of their black, red, silver and gold costumes.

Canada: Canada Jacqueline Simoneau and Karine Thomas--Finally, I wanted to include Canada and their sparkly red, black and white costumes. I liked the design and incorporation of "bleeding hearts" in their looks. A very nice Synchronized Swimming Costume effort!
