Drummer Girl
A mature YA/New Adult contemporary rock star romance by Ginger Scott

Arizona Wakefield was a beat without a melody. Living a half-breathing life in a half-finished neighborhood with parents who always wore half-hearted smiles, the high school senior only had one thing that let her color outside her family’s perfectly drawn lines—her drums.

Jesse Barringer was a song without a chorus. The son of a washed-up rock star who’s also one hell of a deadbeat dad, he was given two things from his father—musical genius and a genetic link to the bipolar disorder that drives him mad.

One night in a garage at the end of a cul-de-sac in the middle of a bankrupt California neighborhood, Jesse’s melody found Arizona’s rhythm. An angry boy with storm-colored eyes found a blonde angel in Doc Martens with missing lines in her own story. Where her rhythm stopped, his words took over, and together, they wrote one hell of a story.

** Drummer Girl is a mature YA/New Adult romance that touches on mental health, drug abuse and includes mature sexual situations.

Drummer Girl, Copyright Ginger Scott 2019

“That’s the first time I’ve played that song. I like it. We should add it to our set,” he says, pulling the strap from around his neck before setting his guitar at the foot of his bed. “What do you think?”He twists so our knees are touching and our shoulders are squared.“I think you’re a showoff, one. And two…I totally think we should close with that at our gig. People love retro shit like that at shows.” I don’t really know what people like at shows because the only kinds I’ve ever been to have been for high school marching nerds or jazz geeks. I probably don’t even deserve to utter the word gig yet. I’m a gig virgin. I do know movies, though, and if this life was a movie, our band would close with that.Jesse’s eyes linger on my face, making me warm.“Okay then,” he says, finally. “And I’m not a showoff.”His lips pucker with his smirk and mine follow suit until a laugh seeps through.“You so are!” I shove at him playfully, and his hands wrap around my wrists and shove back gently but don’t let go.“No, I’m a great example. That’s a totally different thing,” he says, pulling me toward his chest until my fingertips meet the hard surface of his pecs under a well-worn white T-shirt.“I’m pretty sure it’s just a synonym for showoff how you’re using it. In fact, now you’re just being arrogant!” I gripe back through laughter, a wry smile playing at one side of my mouth. Jesse remains quiet, though. His head leaned a tick to the right. My lips vibrate with this sudden change in atmosphere, and without even helping myself, I bite my bottom lip. There is just enough light in the room to see these small things we’re doing, these…signs. At least, I’m giving a sign. I hope I’m not imagining Jesse’s.At least three full breaths pass between us without words. I count mine, and I guess how many he takes because really, I can’t see much beyond the dark centers of his eyes and the top curl of his lip. I wait for him. Even though I’m dizzy and happy and excited, I don’t want to be eager and desperate. I wait for him to move closer…to do something.I wish for him.
“Would it be okay if I kissed you now?”

Driven review, K Bromberg

July book - ultimate reading challenge, a book made into a movie.
I’ve heard such great things about this book, about this series, but I’m sorry to say that it didn’t really live up to the hype. For me it’s WAY too similar to an other famous grey trilogy. So many times something new would be revealed about Colton and all I could think of was Christian.I also found the writing style to be a little stilted, the use of contractions was a big thing for me. Also, and this is odd I admit, but the excuse of exclamation marks bothered me as well.
I think I’ll get the second book, if only to skim through it so I get an idea with what happens, but I won’t be continuing with the series.

This is wild review and release blitz, Natasha Madison

There’s a lot to like about this book, unfortunately there’s also a lot not to like about this.First off, this is my first Natasha Madison book. I have others on my TBR but you know how that is. I’m sorry to say I found the writing style a bit clunky. The non-use of contractions was a big part of it. In my opinion it makes everything seem a bit robotic. It is rather than it’s. I am rather than I’m etc. it made it hard for me to read the book without thinking, it wasn’t wasn’t a smooth experience.I also found the everyday action, getting up, eating, showering, getting dressed, all of that was robotic as well and a tad bit info dumpy. For those not familiar with the characters, they’re hard to follow, I’m still not sure what Max’s role in the organisation is, which is strange considering the over attention to the mundane details. I also found the hockey action sequences, for someone not overly familiar (I can follow, just not in great detail) really hard to understand and picture in my head. There’s also timeline rushes, no breaks between paragraphs when the day changes that I found to follow (which could be an early formatting issue but also may not be which is why I’m mentioning it her).Still, I loved how vulnerable Viktor was. I loved his story and how he struggled.I liked how tough Zoe was, her attitude and how she went about things.Together, as a couple, is great. I loved the passion they had. All in all, I found this to be an okay book. The story is great, but the writing style made it hard for me to get lost in it like I wanted to, sorry!

Until December review and release blitz, Aurora Rose Reynolds

I love this series! Granted I haven’t read all of the books, but this family are great.I love December and Gareth. I love their connection, I love their relationship and I love Mitchell and Max.I did think everything happens a bit quickly for my liking, but I know that’s the go with this family.I also thought there’d be a little more drama. The issue at the school came a little late for me and was over a little too quickly and easily for me, but it wasn’t something massive. This is a great series and I highly recommend it!

Drummer Girl review and release blitz, Ginger Scott

Gah! I loved this book! The subject matter may be tricky, but I think it was handled so well. I loved Arizona. I loved her attitude and I loved her story. I also loved the story about Ginger’s son at the end.Jesse is a great, flawed character. He struggles and I loved how real that was.Together they’re a great couple and I want more of them! I loved the drama, the sense of family, their actual families. I do wish the end would’ve been a little more fleshed out, but that’s my only gripe. This book is truly perfect and will be one of my favourites this year.

Blurb:
Strike One-My mother named me Theodore after her favorite chipmunk.

Not cool, Mom.

I‘ve spent most of my life answering to Teddy, because I couldn’t make Theo work.

Except for here. College. The place where all bets are off, and I’ve managed to redeem myself.
There’s only one problem, my new roommate, Troy, is football royalty and looks like he stepped off the set of an Abercrombie shoot.

Doesn’t matter, I cook a mean breakfast for his panty parade, and we get along well.
And anyway, this year I got the girl. And she’s perfect.

That’s right. Theodore Houseman, former band geek, now marching band rock star has finally landed the girl of his dreams.

Everything is perfect.

That is, until Troy takes a good look at her.

I’m not going down without a fight. As a matter of fact, I’m not going down at all. As glorious as these days may be for my all-star roommate, Laney is my end game.

I may not know much about play strategy, but I’ve been the good guy my whole life. I’ve been listening and I know exactly what women want. Framed in a picture standing next to me, Troy may seem like Mr. Perfect, but he’s underestimating the guy on the right.

Spoiler alert: In this story, the underdog is going to win.

Excerpt:

“Where can we find the best view in Los Angeles?” I had to think about that one. Every trail I’d hiked in the area ended with a gorgeous view, but I didn’t think a hike was what he’d had in mind. That gave me an idea. “Griffith Observatory has some nice views. Not sure how parking is this time of night.” I was still thinking. “Or there’s always Canyon Lake Drive.” The look he gave me next wrapped a string around my heart and tugged gently. “Somewhere you haven’t been with a dude.” Forcing back my smile, I grabbed his phone. “Drive. I’ll program the directions so I can enjoy the ride.” I tried to ignore the pleased look on his face when I blushed at his request, but it was almost impossible to ignore him when I handed back his phone and my fingers accidentally brushed his. Our eyes connected on a beat, the electricity so charged between us that I felt the vibration throughout my body. We rode the rest of the way in silence, like we both knew the conversation to come was a big one. Besides that, neither of us was a fan of small talk. Maybe that was why we’d always gotten along so well. We preferred hours of comfortable silence to awkward conversation. It made each moment we were together meaningful. “Almost there,” he said once we were on Western Canyon Drive. “Where should I park?” “You’ll keep going up the hill. Park on West Observatory Road. You’ll see the line of cars. I usually find a spot up close, but—” I made a face as I looked around his truck. “My car is three times smaller than this.” I grinned at him. “You might want to park about a half mile away.” He chuckled. I didn’t understand why until he continued driving past where I recommended and almost reached the top of the hill, when he slowed. Just then, like fucking magic, a large truck was pulling out of a parallel parking spot, leaving it vacant. “You are kidding me.” He laughed again and parked with ease. Growing up in Malibu didn’t give us many opportunities for parallel parking, but I was certain he’d had his fair share of chances to get it right in Chicago. I hopped out of the truck just as he made it to my side. “So impatient to hang out with me.” I rolled my eyes. “Keep dreaming, James.” He rolled his head back, grinning. “You realize there are women out there dreaming about a night just like this, right?” I hoped he could feel the heat of my glare. “You don’t say.” His lips pressed together like he was biting back a smile, then he took my hand in his and tugged me forward. “Let’s move. We have to make it before sunset.” This time, silence didn’t fill our gaps. It dissipated with the first view we encountered before ever reaching the observatory. “Wow.” I tugged away from him and walked to the balcony of the outlook. As I stared out over trees and rock mountains, I had an epiphany. Taking Tobias here conveyed an unspoken promise that I’d never shared the same space with another man. I hadn’t even questioned the intimacy of what that meant, because it felt natural, just like everything with Tobias, even when the world was trying to pull us apart. My choice had always been Tobias, even when he wasn’t around for me to choose. My heart still belonged to him. A breeze whooshed by, tossing my hair. I breathed into the wind as it continued to beat against me, like the week hadn’t been enough for me to endure. And then strong arms wrapped around me from behind as my insides softened to putty. It had been only a week of knowing Tobias was back in town to stay, and I already knew I was in trouble. Neither of us dared a word as he held me there, the hills of LA a beautiful sight before us, but it was his touch, his breath, his nearness that stole my focus. We’d never even made it to the observatory, but I knew what his mission was in wanting to take me somewhere with a view. It was reminiscent of the one we’d shared in Big Sur, and I couldn’t ignore the rush of those memories that surfaced in the moment. We stood in silence for a long time while Tobias held all of me—physically, emotionally, and metaphorically. His presence grounded me in a way that only my soul could feel. He owned me. All it took was the admission, and for the first time in a very long time, I felt at peace. Once upon a time, Tobias had called me his moon. His rock. His strength. The one he reached for when the waters got rough. As risky as it was to admit it, I still wanted that to be true. “Should we keep going?” I knew Tobias was referring to the observatory, but my response was to a different interpretation of the question. “Yes.”
