Rocking Racers 2 update

I've been fairly active on here lately which is unusual but hey...
Anyway, as you may know, I've started writing book 2 in my Rocking Racers series. At the moment (and probably will be the case) it's titled Where you'd rather be. It features Cole and Knley who were introduced briefly in Breaking the Cycle.
When writing BTC I never set out to write a series, in fact, I'm not the biggest fan of series that follow different couples, but BTC wrapped up nicely and I had the idea to write a book based on the character that is now Knley, it just so happened that she pushed her way into BTC and here we are.
I've gotta say, Cole and Knley are surprising the hell out of me. I've heard of writers saying they were surprised by where their characters take them, and to an extent that happened with Reed and Bria, but Cole and Knley are taking it to another level. These 2 are explosive! Their relationship is going to be tumultuous because that's the way they are together, explosive and passionate, but so far, WYRB is a trip!
I'm hoping to have my manuscript ready for editing at the end of July. That's my own personal deadline. I'm hoping that by announcing it it motivates me to be done by then! Procrastination, it's a killer!
But I just wanted to share what an experience writing WYRB is so far! It's made even more interesting by the fact that Mav and lately, Park have decided to start speaking up.Mav will be book 3. Park I've slated as book 5 with Jax in the middle. In truth, Jax is my favourite and I can't wait to write his story but for now he's got to wait, they all do! But I am noting everything they're telling me, so don't worry, I won't forget!
I just wanted to say thank you for your interest in my Ryan Racing boys and a reminder, if you haven't already, of where you can pick up the first in the series, Breaking the Cycle.

Thank you

I've posted on both my Facebook and Twitter accounts, but I wanted to elaborate and where better to do it?
I just wanted to thank all the bloggers who have participated in Breaking the Cycle's blog tour. It truly has been amazing that so many blogs have supported me and my work. It's the craziest thing to see so many pages mention me and my book. Perfect strangers who decided just by a blurb or a cover that I was worthy of their time, effort and support.
Breaking the Cycle hasn't broken any sales records but I'm so proud of it. It's amazing to think people have read my words, enjoyed the process and hopefully loved my characters.I never set out to have any of this happen. Sure, I wrote the novel and I sent it to a publisher but I never thought it was good enough to be published. I compare my stuff to some of my favourite authors and I don't think I measure up. Maybe I'm being hard on myself or maybe I genuinely don't but then I read other books and I know I've done better. I know I have a unique voice and I know no one can do what I can do.
The world of indie romance is huge, and getting bigger by the day. It's incredible to be a part of it.The world of romance blogging is huge and I'm happy to be a part of that too.
I know we all have so much choice and I thank you for choosing me, your support means the world to me and I hope you continue to take an interest in my work, and please, leave a review!

He told me to 'settle, girl.'
He asked if 'something was wrong with me?'
He said I was an ‘easy target.’
That was within minutes when I first met Caden Banks.
I labeled him an *sshole, but he was more than that. Arrogant. Smug. Alpha.

He was also to-die-for gorgeous, and my stepbrother’s fraternity brother.

Okay, yes I was a little naive, a tad bit socially awkward, and the smallest amount of stalker-ish, but if Caden Banks thought he could tell me what to do, he had another thing coming.

I came to college with daydreams about being with my stepbrother, but what would happen if I fell for the anti-stepbrother instead?

Author Information

tijan bio.jpeg

I didn't begin writing until after undergraduate college. There'd been storylines and characters in my head all my life, but it came to a boiling point one day and I HAD to get them out of me. So the computer was booted up and I FINALLY felt it click. Writing is what I needed to do. After that, I had to teach myself how to write. I can't blame my teachers for not teaching me all those years in school. It was my fault. I was one of the students that was wishing I was anywhere but at school! So after that day, it took me lots of work until I was able to put together something that resembled a novel. I'm hoping I got it right since someone must be reading this profile! And I hope you keep enjoying my future stories.Stalk Her: Facebook | Twitter | Website | Goodreads

Dylan, Karla Sorensen, release blitz

Copy received for honest review. I wanted to love this book, I really did. I started off loving it. I loved Dylan and Kat and I loved them together but they were let down by the story. The story was sorely lacking detail or any interesting peaks in the story, it was all rather flat and developed in fits and starts. It made for an interrupted read. There was no heat and the relationship between the two, instead of being a hot build up to Kat losing her virginity, was a soft simmer. Perhaps this was what was intended but it could've been so much more with the hot details! I'd also caution the author/publisher to take care with their proofread as there were quite a few errors which I hope were fixed prior to publication. I'm so disappointed because Dylan started off great but ended with a fizzle.

BLURB

Dylan Steadman has never seen his stubbornness as a bad thing. It's always been easy for him to make up his mind and stick with it. It's why he works a lot, why he doesn't need to make time for a girlfriend, and why he recently decided to move across the country for a new job. His brothers and sister and happily settled, and now that all eyes have turned on him, he needs a change. He does not need a relationships, and moving to Colorado lets him breathe. What he didn't see coming was Kat, the much-too-young-for-him employee at his new restaurant.

Kat Perry doesn't have a family. She doesn't even really have friends, but that's by her choice. Her new manager, Dylan, has all the things that she should avoid: the muscles, the eyes, the smile, and the kind of white-knight syndrome that she doesn't know what the frick to do with. Dylan should be easy enough to disregard since she's managed to hold people at arm's length her whole life, especially when a relationship is the very last thing she wants

But she can't ignore him, not when he befriends her, and definitely not when they tap into combustible chemistry that threatens to burn down everything around them. So instead of fighting it, they come to an agreement- just friends with a bunch of benefits on the side. Easy, right? Not exactly.

Especially when the heart gets involved.

EXCERPT

When I pulled the front door open, Kat stood framed under the circle of light from the fixture next to the door, her brown eyes wide in her face. Clutched against her chest was a giant—and I meant giant—white, plastic bowl. The top was wrapped in aluminum foil, which crinkled when she shifted her grip.

“I made potato salad,” she blurted out, blinking rapidly at me, but not walking through the door. “I’ve never made it before, and maybe you guys don’t even like it. Not everyone likes mustard, you know. Or potatoes. And we don’t even need to eat it. You know what? I can just leave it in my car.”

She turned to march back to her car, but I snagged her elbow and gently pulled her into the house. “Kat,” I said when she wouldn’t meet my eyes. “Thank you. I’m sure it’s delicious.”

“It’s probably not.” Her eyes were still firmly trained on the bowl while she set it on the kitchen counter. I swallowed a laugh. Her nerves were like a physical presence separating us from the rest of the group. But there was something so endearing about it, and about the way that she’d obviously dressed up to hang out with us. Her skirt was a blinding orange, cut short and fit tightly around her slim hips. Her tank top was zebra print, and matched the strappy black and white sandals that wrapped up her shins. She must have done her hair too, because the messy strands looked a bit more uniform, held back by a bright pink headband.

“You look very nice,” I said carefully, as I typically made it a habit to not compliment the appearance of women who worked for me. But I couldn’t help it. She looked like a fluorescent highlighter, bright and blindingly fun in the masculine space of Garrett’s house. Her face whipped up to me, a lop-sided smile of gratitude spreading over her face.

“I’ve never been to a guys’ night.” She shrugged, finally looking more at ease. “It was either this or my Broncos jersey and yoga pants. I decided to embrace my role as the lone feminine presence.”

Then she looked around the counter, saw the lack of any real food beyond what she’d brought along. Her face flushed and she blinked away from me again. So I shoved Leonidas at her, and the distraction worked. She cooed and cuddled him, laughing delightedly when he tried to climb up her shoulder to sniff at her headband.

Garrett ambled into the kitchen and ruffled Kat’s hair. “Hey, sprite. How’s it hangin’?”

Kat narrowed her eyes, shifting Leonidas in her arms. “I’m not positive how to answer you. Don’t men ask that question in regards to their penis?”

I choked on the sip of beer I’d just swallowed and Garrett froze, staring down at her with a mixture of horror and amusement. “Yes we do, Kat. And the fact that you just said that out loud means you are welcome at guys’ night for the rest of your life.”

AUTHOR BIO

Well, let’s see ... I’m a wife and a mother. I’m a writer who wants to make people smile when they read my words. I own a dog that sheds roughly eighteen pounds of hair every day. I am obsessed with Outlander (both the books and the show). I’m almost exclusively a romance reader, which means some people will never consider me a literary snob. If I could meet one historical figure, it would be Jane Austen. I received my Bachelors in Public Relations and worked in health care marketing before I had my babies. I hate Twitter. I do it, but I hate it. Also, if you want to get on my good side, bring me wine and I'll love you forever.

Interview: Megan Lowe.

Here's an interview I did recently!

An interview with Megan Lowe

by Hot Tree Promotions

1. Tell us a bit about yourself.

I’m a Journalism graduate who tried for years to get a job in that field before I finally gave up. I’ve been writing stories since I was a kid, even going so far as to make my own newsletter, so writing has always been a thing for me. I love to travel, go to rock concerts and sporting events, mostly by myself, although that isn’t my first choice. I’m an only child who is currently battling for control of the house with my sixteen-year-old tortoiseshell cat.

2. What inspired you to write your first book?

I’d been reading, a lot, and as a result I had made a list of what I liked and what I would do if I was writing my own book. I’d had a go at a few before and they were rubbish (and in a different genre than contemporary romance) but I thought, maybe I should give this another go. I’d noticed a real glut of sports romances with cars or anything with a motor and I love bikes (I don’t ride because I’m too chicken but I would love to!), and the guys who ride them are hot, so I thought this might be a good place to start and it snowballed from there.

3. How did you come up with the title of Breaking the Cycle?

I didn’t name the book until I was about halfway through which is how I usually work. I have a hard time naming books and characters. But I was writing and it just kind of came to me, it was a phrase that kept coming up. I think it fits for two reasons. 1, is that Bria is breaking the cycle of bad luck the Ryans have and 2, is that it kind of belies the fact that Hunter wants to actually break the Ryans, their bikes and everything they love.

4. Describe your main character in five words.

Tough, loving, determined, family-orientated. As a bonus, that works for both Bria and Reed!

5. What was one of the most surprising things you learned in writing Breaking the Cycle?

This came more in the editing stage after discussions with my editor and publisher, and that was that Australian literature is much like Australia itself. The world has a very cliqued view of Australia and anything we produce, in terms of books or film, but Australia is far from what the world thinks we are. I realised that I myself shared that bias despite having read some contemporary Australian romance novels. I realised that my novel didn’t have to follow that cliqued path and that I can forge the way and help change the world’s view of us and our art.

6. Have you ever done anything strange or weird in the name of research?

No, but I have spent a hell of a lot of money on it! I recently returned home after a five week European holiday where I made a side trip to Jerez de la Frontera, a town in the Andalusian region of Spain, to go to the MotoGP race staged there. It was an amazing experience and worth every penny, which it did cost a lot!

7. How long does it take you to write a book?

I started Breaking the Cycle then stopped as I gave up my study after some family members moved in with us. I then went on a month holiday to China where I lugged my notebooks (I handwrite) around China and Hong Kong, before seriously sitting down and pumping it out. So, from start to finish BTC took me about six months all told, but if you took out the time I didn’t write, probably a month or two. My process is a bit drawn out because as I said, I handwrite which means after I finish I then have to type everything up. I would get someone to help me with this because I’m not the fastest typist but I edit as I type so that doesn’t work. Then when I edit I need have the words on a page in front of me and handwrite my edits. It’s also quite a nerve-wracking process because what happens if the house burns down? * touch wood * But, it’s how I work so what can you do, besides invest in a fire extinguisher?

8. Can you share a little of your current work with us?

It’s book 2 in the Rocking Racers series, Cole and Knley’s book, titled, at the moment, Where You’d Rather Be. I’d started to come up with the plot for this one while I was still writing BTC and now I’m getting into it. Book 3 is going to be Mav’s book and at the moment he’s being quite vocal which is slightly inconvenient. His book is going to take place after Cole and Knley and I’m still not sure of everything that’s going to happen there, but I’m taking note of what he has to say which I’m liking quite a bit actually.

9. What is your work schedule like when you're writing?

I work nights, as in a job that gives me a regular wage, which works out well for my writing. It does mean I keep weird hours though, but when dealing with America it’s all good! My day usually sees me write for about five hours, some times more, some times less, before looking after my family and then going to work. On more than one occasion my writing life takes over my other job and I find myself having to stop and write down what my characters are telling me, but don’t tell my managers that!

10. Do you have any writing rituals?

Nothing specific other than handwriting. I have certain pens I like but I think everyone is like that. I also have a heap of empty notebooks, it’s kind of my obsession, but no, no rituals. I do have a lucky pooh bear that sits on my desk though.

11. What book are you reading now?

At the moment I’m reading Until June by Aurora Rose Reynolds but I’m dying for Cambria Hebert’s new book, #Swag. I absolutely adore the Hashtag and Gearshark series. I’m also hanging out for L.P. Maxa’s Play Softly in her Devil’s Share series. Dash and Lexi are some of my favourites and I love the way she writes her male leads.

12. Do you have anything specific that you want to say to your readers?

Just thank you! Thank you so much for reading Breaking the Cycle and hopefully, loving it! And if you did love it, would you consider leaving a review? The more reviews it gets the more Amazon will promote it, oh, and tell all your friends!

Random Questions:

What’s in your fridge right now?

Flavoured water, chocolate, left over dinner from the other night and bananas.

What song do you sing at the top of your voice every time you hear it?

Anything by my favourite bands, and there’s a lot, but every single time? I like it heavy by Halestorm. I would happily turn for Lzzy Hale!

Other than writing, what special or unusual talent(s) do you have?

At the moment I’m forgetting everything I wanted to tell one of my friends at work, which I happen to think is a talent! I can make a mean baked cheesecake but really, I’m not that talented!

Where did you last go on holiday?

Haha, okay, bear with me. I started off in London before visiting family in Liverpool and Manchester before moving onto Lisbon, Jerez de la Frontera, Madrid, Barcelona, Pau, Nice, and Venice before going back to London. I want to go back to America next.

If feral aliens attacked your house and they were zapping your home with their Übersuper bombs, what five items would you save?

I’m assuming my family are safe, so I’d say:

1. my grandparent’s ashes and my grandmother’s rings2. photos of my trips overseas3. my lucky pooh bear4. my current wip, duh!5. my original care bear. It used to belong to my cousin before she gave it to me when I was about three or four, so it’s older than I am (which isn’t that old at all!). I’ve had it a long time, so yeah, I’d save him too!

If someone wrote a biography about you, what do you think the title should be?

I’m really not that interesting and as we know I hate naming things so maybe they should focus less on me and more on themselves and write a book from their own imagination!

It's not as easy as you think.

The saying is that everyone has a book in them, I don't doubt that, what I do doubt is that there is an audience for every book. Maybe there is, in fact, I'm sure there probably is, people are weird and everyone is different so maybe people would want to read some of the stuff other people come up with, but my point is, just because you can write doesn't mean you can necessarily sell a book. Writing a book is hard work. It's, for the most part, a solo journey. It takes a lot of time and dedication and discipline. To some, the story comes easily, the discipline comes easy and those people are lucky. I'm half that person. The editing is hard. You write something and you think it's perfect, it rarely is. It's the constant cutting and tweaking and shifting and tailoring, it takes its toll. Then, when you think it's perfect again, you get beta opinions and you have to do it all again.I don't mind these processes. My publisher has put a lot of money into me so I'm going to make a product they think they can market and sell. But not everyone gets to this point. Sure, you've written a book. We already know that itself isn't easy but in this process, it is the easy part. Not every book is going to get published, nor should it, it's just the way things go. Conversely, not every book published is going to be a success, we can't all be J.K Rowling, as much as we'd like to be. Writing a book is a feat and no matter where we get along the book journey, you should be proud!
I should mention what prefaced this post.I'm currently reading an ARC of a soon to be released book, you'll see the review and promo posts here soon. I genuinely like the characters, I've fallen in love with them, but the story needs work. It develops in fits and starts and it got me wondering, this book is set to be published in a matter of days, if I'm picking up on the issues with the story (not to mention the typos) then why hasn't someone else? I'm not sure if this is an independent release or through a publisher but it either way I think someone should've picked up on this. A story should be smooth so you don't have lulls where you're reading just to get to the next point. I know there needs to be development but keep it level with the rest of the book. I don't know, maybe I'm wrong and people will love it and maybe this is just my personal preference but I think it might have been worth mentioning in the editing stage. It makes me realise how professional my own process was, how accurate the feedback. I don't, and won't, pretend to know what the market wants, especially in such a crowded market, but the people I handed my book over to have a pretty good idea and I'm so glad! I really want to love this book but I can't help but think they could've benefitted from the same advice I did. I'm not saying this book shouldn't be published, obviously someone thinks it should, I'm just saying, I don't know, I'm saying take the time to make sure it's finished, that you've incorporated the feedback, that you've gotten feedback, because I think it could be great but at the moment it's just okay.

You will after you read this book.

Synopsis:

These drivers got #swag…

Racing is in her DNA.
Right alongside money and power.
When you’re the daughter of one of the most powerful men in the country,
you have to work harder for success.
Joey Gamble’s a girl on a male-dominated track.
With a daddy who can buy whatever she wants.
But she doesn’t want anything… except to EARN her reputation.

Racing is his passion.
Trouble follows him everywhere. Some even say he invites it.
When you’re nipping at the taillights of the best driver in the new NRR,
you have to fight and claw for each and every success.
It’s never been easy for Lorhaven.
That’s why he doesn’t play by the rules.
He’s a man with a serious chip on his shoulder against the pro racing circuit.
We at GearShark want to know what’s up with that.

We’ve also been hearing rumblings…
of a pro who wants to go indie.

We’ve invited racing royalty and the driver from the wrong side of the tracks to sit down and talk to us about a possible crossover.
We expected sparks to fly when Joey and Lorhaven crossed paths.
Will those sparks ignite into a full-on inferno?
