Heart and Hustle with guest, Wendy Cole, Transition Mentor, #207

Heart and Hustle:
Visionaries, Healers, Movers, Shakers,
with your host Paulette Rees-Denis,
with guest, Wendy Cole Transition Mentor, Episode #207

I  am delighted to bring this provocative interview to you today…
Meet Wendy Cole, a woman who is here to help others make a transition, no matter what age. She decided to make hers, from man to woman, at age 67. That is profound and how wonderful that she finally was able to make the change that she’d been wanting all her life.

Enjoy our interview

Also listen in on Spotify

From an early age, Wendy knew in her heart that she was a girl, but she struggled to conform to the expectations of her family and society. It wasn’t until the age of 67 that Wendy finally found the courage to embrace her true self and undergo her life-changing transition. In doing so, she embarked on a personal journey of self-acceptance, shedding the fears, doubts, and anxieties that had held her back for so long. Within just six months, Wendy was able to start living as her authentic self.

Today, Wendy draws on her own experiences and studies to mentor and coach others through their own major life transitions. Using techniques such as visioning, mindfulness, and shifting beliefs and energy, she guides her clients in making profound changes to their lives and health, and finding happiness in being true to themselves.

Wendy’s passion for coaching stems from a place of deep empathy. She understands the challenges her clients face, having overcome similar obstacles in her own life. She knows that having someone who has walked the same path can make all the difference in navigating significant life changes. Wendy’s focus is always on her clients’ futures, helping them realize that while change may seem intimidating at first, it doesn’t have to be overwhelming. She encourages her clients to embrace the journey, have fun, and revel in the joy of living a life that resonates with their true selves.

Action Creates Change

Who’s ready for a change?

I’ve always been a strong proponent for making change… taking a new path, trying something different, stepping outside of the box (that only we create anyway), but moving forward with intention and focus and commitment and curiosity!

Well, how does one make a change?

Action Creates Change

Intentional action steps further into your personal dreams and desires. Because seasons shift, technology advances, and societies evolve, always, sometimes not the way we want, but they do.

While change can occur passively through external forces, the most profound and lasting transformations often stem from that deliberate action I’m talking about. “Action Creates Change” is not merely a statement but a fundamental principle that governs personal growth, societal progress, and also global evolution. Intentional movement is the catalyst for transformation at all levels, personal to global!

Individual Transformation

On a personal level, as a lifestyle coach, my focus is helping guide you to take that intentional and strategic action because it is the driving force behind self-improvement, growth, and expansion.

Thoughts become words, become things. Wishing for change is dreaming; taking steps toward it is active and creates those changes. Whether you want to learn a new skill, adopt a healthier lifestyle, or break a bad habit, each action taken propels you closer to your desired outcome.

Attention, Intention, Action!

Baby steps, baby! Small, consistent actions add up over time, and can lead to significant personal transformation. Know what I mean? Perhaps you want to tone up your body, so consistently dedicating 30 minutes to exercise each day will lead to that healthier you, and you can see the change.

I just did this for one month with a trainer, waking up and going to the gym every morning at 6 am to do a 30 minute workout and I loved the tiny transformations in my body, and also in my mind and spirit, because I had committed to it, because I wanted to make a change, and I hired someone to hold me accountable and give me steps to make the change.

Another work idea: Prioritizing your workload, naming 1-3 things daily, will help you get things done more efficiently and will make a happier you! (Have you seen my masterclass on making your MAP, Magic Action Plan? Check it out here: https://vimeo.com/492293124/82c0963690)

When you show up and participate in your own desires and well being, you will also create the Ripple Effect, and I love that! People get inspired by seeing others doing and living their dreams.

Every action, no matter how small, creates a ripple effect. An act of kindness can brighten someone’s day, inspiring them to pay it forward. Someone having an art show can inspire others to keep on creating. A dance performance can get someone motivated to start dancing again. A local community initiative can serve as a model for other communities facing similar challenges. These ripple effects demonstrate how action extends beyond its immediate impact, influencing and inspiring change in ways that may not be immediately apparent.

Overcoming Obstacles to Action

While the importance of action is clear, taking it can be challenging.

What are you afraid of? Fear of failure, uncertainty about the outcome, and lack of resources can all hinder action. However, overcoming these obstacles is crucial for making the changes you wish to see in the world, and in your own life! Breaking down large goals into smaller, manageable steps can make action less daunting. Asking for help, like I did in hiring a trainer, and seeking support from others can provide motivation and resources..

“Action Creates Change” is a powerful principle that underscores the importance of intentional effort in bringing about transformation.

Simply stated. Change requires action – the conscious decision to move from intention to reality.

By recognizing the power of our intentional actions and overcoming the fears that can often stop us, we can become participants of those changes in our lives and in the world around us.

Each baby step we take contributes to the ongoing process of our evolution and expansion, in ourselves, our community, and even globally. Ultimately, the future is shaped not by passive dreaming, but by active participation and the unwavering commitment to create the change we wish to see.

So love, what changes do you want to see, to take, to have? And can you commit to yourself so that you can feel freaking great about your continuing journey?

And as always, I am here for you, as your cheerleader and coach, to help you envision, clarity, and manifest your desires. The Canvas of Reflection: A Creative Woman at almost 68

Happy Friday, Make it a fun day…

Here is another Musing from me…

The Canvas of Reflection: A Creative Woman at almost 68

In this beautiful and colorful tapestry of life, certain threads shimmer with the quiet wisdom of years lived. At almost 68, as a creative woman, I find myself drawn more and more to these reflective moments. The urgency of past decades softens, replaced by a gentle invitation to pause, to breathe, and to truly consider the next brushstrokes on my personal canvas, the next dance steps on my Caravan’s journey, the next words for my poetry book of Life Shorts!

It is not a withdrawal, but rather a purposeful recalibration, a time to appreciate the journey so far and to consciously shape the chapters yet to unfold. That is a mouthful of thoughts!

Honoring the Legacy of Creativity

For many of us that are in my stratosphere, creativity has been a lifelong companion. It has manifested in various forms: perhaps through dancing, painting, writing, music, or the intricate art of living itself. Now, at this time in my life, there is an opportunity to revisit these passions with a fresh perspective. Past works take on new meanings, and the successes and struggles alike contribute to a rich narrative of self-discovery.

It’s a time to honor this legacy, to acknowledge the persistent flame that has fueled creativity through the years.I have done so over the years, and have talked about it with friends and students and tribe mates. But that conversation doesn’t end.

Reclaiming Time for Reflection

I have found myself, even in semi-retirement, so full up with day-to-day life. Work continues, Play gets more important! By choice of course, often not wanting to say NO, but saying YES to more adventures and possibilities.

In this bustle and hustle of daily life and even often just surviving, my time for reflection often takes a backseat. Yet, as some of you know, it is in these quiet moments of introspection that true clarity emerges. For a 67-year-old woman, carving out dedicated time for reflection becomes paramount. It could be through journaling, meditation, long walks, or simply sitting in quiet contemplation. The act of slowing down allows the layers of experience to settle, revealing patterns, insights, and a deeper understanding of one’s own desires and priorities.

These are the things that I coach my clients about repeatedly, and even I find it difficult sometimes. The whirlwind of life!

SO….

“What’s next?” is a question that resonates deeply at this age. Retirement, shifting roles, and changing physical realities may necessitate a reassessment of personal goals. This reflection period becomes an opportunity to explore new avenues for creative expression, to nurture nascent interests, or to deepen existing passions. It is a time to ask:

What truly brings me joy and fulfillment now, these days, as an older woman?

What skills and experiences can be shared with others? What do I have to offer as a crone, a wise woman, a coach, a mentor?

What impact do I want to make in this next phase of life? What do I still want to create?

Finding Joy in Simplicity

The wisdom of age often brings an appreciation for simplicity. This simplicity might manifest in choosing quality over quantity, prioritizing meaningful connections, or finding delight in everyday moments. It’s also about recognizing the inherent beauty in slowing down and savoring the present. For a creative woman, this shift can lead to new artistic inspiration drawn from the subtle nuances of life.

Embracing Change and Growth

I’m not done yet! Even at 67, there is immense potential for growth and evolution. My creative spirit thrives on exploration and new experiences. I don’t sit still for long. This might mean learning a new skill, traveling to unfamiliar places, or engaging in community projects. The focus is not on achieving grand feats but on staying engaged, curious, and open to the possibilities that life still offers. What do I always say? To be a possibilitarian

Sharing Wisdom and Mentoring

With years of experience comes a wealth of knowledge and wisdom. One fulfilling aspect of this stage can be the opportunity to share this with others. Mentoring younger generations, participating in workshops, or simply offering a listening ear can be deeply rewarding. It creates a sense of purpose and contributes to the continuity of creative traditions.

One of the reasons I became a professional coach, among my many careers. I love to see the expansion and possibilities of others. To share the ways to get over the hard roads, to bring in more ease, to honor and celebrate my mentees, to guide through the often hiding and dark path. To help others shine their light. Illumination…

We are here to be seen and heard. To share and stand up, to shout and brag, and to inspire others as well as learn from others. To be in some sort of community for connection, for support, for love, for pleasure, for joy.

The Ongoing Journey

Ultimately, taking time to relax and reflect at 67 is not about arriving at a final destination. It is about embracing the ongoing journey, the continuous process of growth and discovery. It is about acknowledging the past, savoring the present, and looking toward the future with a blend of wisdom, grace, and creative passion. The canvas remains open, and the potential for new masterpieces is boundless.

I’m not done yet!

Moving with Feminine Grace as We Age

Moving with Feminine Grace as We Age

Monday Motivation, Pep Talk, and Magic… Talking to you…

As we journey through this thing called life, as we age, our bodies change, and so does the way we move. Embracing these changes with grace and femininity can be a beautiful and empowering experience. It’s about finding a new rhythm, a new way of being in our bodies that honors our age and wisdom. We talk about this in our dance classes, in our yoga classes, in our daily lives too, confering with our friends about these sometimes small nuances of change, and sometimes, even bigger changes that have crept up on us.

And we must continue to honor our bodies…So, what do you do…Listen in deep to Your Body’s Needs

Pay attention to what your body is telling you. Rest when you need to, it is ok to take a break, or just stop. And don’t push yourself beyond your limits. Haven’t we done that enough over the years, moving with our creative juices and working to make a living?

Gentle Movement, you know me, I’m all about moving the god pod…

If you are a mover already, might be time to cross train, try something different, and if you haven’t been moving, consider activities like yoga, dance, tai chi, or swimming, which promote flexibility, balance, and strength without being too strenuous. And any of those can help you reconnect with yourself, your spirit, and even release a lot of stuck energy from your past.

Self-Care Practices

Ohhh, baby, incorporate practices like massage, warm baths, and aromatherapy to soothe and nurture your body, is delicious, and yes, necessary. I don’t consider these a luxury. Again, it is reconnecting with your body, and what it needs.

Embracing Feminine EnergyFluidity and Flow

Focus on movements that feel fluid and natural. Think of the way water moves, adapting to its surroundings with ease and grace. Think of slowing down and allowing yourself to step into that graceful flow, even if you are going on a morning walk. Breathing deep and again, listening in.

Connection and Sensuality

And whlie you are at it…Reconnect with your senses. Dance, listen to music, out walking in nature, or simply feeling the sun on your skin. Embrace the sensuality of movement and the joy of being in your body. I think we forget to slow down, and enjoy being present, taking in deep breaths, and going on what I can a beauty walk, looking at your surroundings…

Self-Expression

As a dancer, I have always used dance movement as a form of self-expression.  And Yoga to feel alive and flexible, and working out at the gym to feel strong and in touch with how my body changes. But even if that isn’t your definition of self, you can move through walking in nature, or simply stretching, allow your movements to reflect your inner beauty and strength. Noone else has to see you. Remember, dance like noone is watching!

Cultivating Inner Grace, this is so good…and so important. To be Mindful and Present

Be present in your body. Pay attention to how you move, how you feel, and what your body is telling you.

I love when my students in either dance or yoga classes, say, Nope not doing that, it doesn’t feel right on my body. That means they are listening in, to their limitations, and what is working for them.

Self-Compassion

Be kind to yourself. Accept that your body is changing and that your movements may not be the same as they once were.

This is HUGE! and I know I have dealt with this over the years. But I also know that because I have kept dancing, and working out, and walking, and doing yoga, that I am loving my body, daily, and reaping the rewards of continuous connection and movement.

Gratitude

Hell yeah. Daily…Appreciate your body for all that it has done and continues to do. Focus on what you can do, rather than what you can’t. Love that goddess that you are!

For Daily PracticeStart Small, remember, baby steps…

Begin with short periods of gentle movement and gradually increase the duration and intensity as you feel comfortable. I know you can push yourself, even if just a little. First step is to get off the couch!

Create a Ritual

How do you do this? Find a good time of day that you can use, repeatably. Research some classes. Sign up and GO!

Look online, Find some music. Make movement a regular part of your day. It could be a morning stretch, an afternoon walk, or an evening dance.

Movement raises energy. Creates Momentum, and starts to energize your own Magic…

Find a Community

This can also be HUGE… get an accountability partner, hire a coach, join a group. Connect with others who share your interest in gentle movement and feminine grace. Or think about the variety… salsa, qi gong, bellydancing, strenth training, yoga, pilates, there are so many options open these days, you just got to make a move!

By embracing our changing bodies and cultivating inner grace, we can move through life with beauty, strength, and confidence, no matter our age. Feeling great, Growing older with wisdom, confidence, and  loving our bodies.

Love your temple. You are a goddess…

Enjoy the movement and your body!

The Body Speaks: Why Dance is Essential Expression

The Body Speaks: Why Dance is Essential ExpressionThe Language Beyond WordsI often communicate through writing, as one of my main passions, particularly poetry, but there’s a deeper language that resides within me, the language of the body. This is where dance comes in. “The Body needs to keep expressing itself through dance” – this simple statement holds profound truth. It’s an acknowledgment that our physical selves are not just vessels but active participants in our emotional and mental lives. Amen and hallelujah!Dance as Release and ConnectionI’ve always said that dance is a powerful form of release. It allows us to channel emotions, frustrations, and joys that words sometimes fail to capture. Through movement, we can externalize what’s internal, creating a tangible expression of our inner world. Dance connects us not only to ourselves but also to others. Building a dance connection. Whether it’s a circle of women, sharing improvisational language, or a choreographed performance, or spontaneous woo woo movement, dance fosters a sense of shared experience and understanding. And there is nothing like that soulful connection, together, synchronistically. The Benefits, the Outcomes, the Openings of DancingPhysical Well-beingDance improves flexibility, strength, and coordination. It’s a full-body workout that enhances cardiovascular health and overall fitness. And especially as we get older, keeping connected in and with our bodies, to stay fit and able, balanced, and alive.Emotional and Mental HealthDance reduces stress, boosts mood, and increases self-esteem. It provides an outlet for emotional expression and fosters a sense of accomplishment. Remember that time you did not want to go to dance class, but did, and felt euphoric after?Social InteractionDance classes, workshops, and social dances create opportunities for connection and community. What we crave most! Connection, community, co-creating…no matter age, size, background, culture. When we dance that non verbal language, sometimes it is just the eye connection that dives deep into the soul, that touches us like nothing else.Embracing Movement, I highly recommend it!Whether you’re a seasoned dancer or someone who hasn’t danced since childhood, it’s never too late to embrace movement. Put on your favorite music, let go of inhibitions, and allow your body to express itself. Dance is not about perfection; it’s about feeling, connecting, and celebrating the joy of movement.Just like me, dancing around my kitchen while I am cooking, listening to Motown, brings me so much joy, energy, and also infusing my food with love too!“The Body needs to keep expressing itself through dance.”So friends, this is a reminder to listen to your bodies, to honor their need for movement, and to recognize dance as a vital form of expression. In a world that often prioritizes the intellectual, let’s not forget the wisdom and beauty of physical expression, for renewal, spiritual connection, body consciousness and fitness, and creativity!Keep on moving, feeling, dancing. Hear your inner rhythm, connect with others. Take a class, Move in familiar way, or something completely different.Love your temple.
