Weekend Roundup

It turned out to be a packed weekend but we did get to see THOR on Saturday Night. I have to confess, I liked the first one better. But there were parts of this one I really liked too.

Yesterday I took a break and met Biker Witch (my sister) for coffee. It’s hilarious how I “plan” for about an hour then glance and my watch and do the classic double take 2 and 1/2 hours later.

Thanksgiving is growing…LOLOL!! And you know what? It’s a good problem to have so I’m not going to whine. Everyone is pitching in (Biker Witch volunteered before I could ask her!), no one is going to care if the house if sparkling clean or not and we’ll have fun.

And the book–I’m making slow but steady progress and really loving Logan and Becky, but there’s a lot of work ahead of me to “show” who they are in the book so the reader can love them too. That’s one of the truly terrifying parts of writing–if I fail, I not only fail the readers (which kills me) but I fail these characters who are trusting me with their story. Yeah, I know how that sounds, but just nod and pretend that doesn’t sound crazy :-)

So how was your weekend?

Happy Friday!

This is not fair. Wizard has a day off and I don’t. There is going to be some serious pouting going on around here.  Although we’re going to try to see THOR so I might be over it.

Maybe :-)

Although I’m going to get my hair color corrected today.  Because nature keeps screwing with my hair color then I have to get it “fixed”. Plus my bangs are in my eyes.

Otherwise, my butt’s in my chair and I’m trying to write! This book must happen! And I’m juggling a couple other things too because life doesn’t stop for deadlines.

What are you all doing this weekend?

Weekend Roundup

Saturday was wonderful to see old friends! Long day, but so much fun!  There is nothing like seeing long-time friends…it’s a nostalgic, grateful feeling to know that these are the people who are always there no matter whatever else happens in our lives.  Every passing day I appreciate my friends more and more.

In other news, CPA Boy and Special K didn’t get the dog Buttercup (he’s in a great home!), but it looks like they are getting this dog. Here’s Corky sleeping in the sun:

Corky Sunbathing

He’s a three-year old rescue. I haven’t met him in person yet, but he looks like a sweetheart! They have to make sure it works out with their other dog.

Hmm…if it doesn’t work out, will Corky need a new home…at my house? Just asking!

This week, I’m working, working, working!

So how was your weekend?

Happy Friday!

Okay so the stress has hit me and I’m in full-blown deadline panic for THE COWBOY MARINE.  It’s crazy time over here in our house.  I have no idea how I’m going to get this book done. The ONLY saving grace is I’m now feeling this book, so connected to it that I wake up thinking about it. But it’s not translating into enough words yet.  All I can do is keep trying.

Let’s talk about something else! Wizard and I had a great anniversary and thank you so much all of you for your good wishes! All he got me this year was a card, and I was thrilled.  We went to a nice dinner, came home and had apple pie.  However, while at the restaurant,  I think we scandalized one couple which still cracks me up. Wizard and I were sitting in one of those horse shoe booths. I was on the inside sitting a few feet from him.

But once we were finished,  we were talking, and Wizard had his arm up on the back of the booth.

That looked like an invitation to me. So scooted in and he put his arm around me. I don’t remember exactly what we were talking about but I remember laughing.

That amused Wizard and he kissed me. Trust me, as kisses go, this was TAME. Totally G-rated. So G-rated I’d have done it in front of my kids or anyone’s kids.

But I looked up to this middle-aged dark-haired, very nice looking lady staring at us. Then she said something to her companion, an older gentleman and his head snapped around to stare at us.

SO. WEIRD.  Even Wizard saw it. I swear up and down it was a G-Rated, impulsive kiss. But we must have scandalized those two. Near as I can tell, nobody else in the restaurant even noticed.  See? I get into trouble without even doing anything! Really! It was a G-rated kiss!

In other news, I’m so excited to go to my RWA Meeting tomorrow. An old friend who moved out-of-state will be there and I can’t wait to see her! I can’t afford the time off, but sometimes friends come before work!

So what are you doing this weekend?

Wednesday Worthy

I’m making an apple pie today.  I know, I know! Cookies and now apple pie? With vanilla ice cream?

But it’s Wizard’s fault. He’s been whining for apple pie, and since today is our anniversary…what could I do? I have to make it. It’s a rule or something. Especially since we’ve been married soooo long. Wizard DESERVES apple pie!

And here’s an example of WHY Wizard deserves apple pie from our conversation at dinner last night:

Me, “You’re not getting me anything for our anniversary right? I’ll be mad if you do.”

Wizard rolled his eyes.  ”Like I have had time to go shopping?”

That was true, but Wizard can be devious. “That’s not an answer. We agreed, no gifts. We’re going to to dinner and I don’t want anything else.”

He got this really mutinous look. “I can buy you something if I want to.”

I finally realized how absurd this conversation was and started to laugh.  ”I think we’ve been married too long.”

He nodded while scarfing down the steak tacos I made for dinner.  ”Probably.”

“You still better not buy me anything.”

He stopped talking to me, probably because I was annoying the shit out of him.  But like I said, we’ve been married a long time and I know exactly how to get back in his good graces.   So I said, “I’m making you an apple pie tomorrow.”

And just like that, I was once again the love of his life.  See? He deserves apple pie!

Okay so this is an old picture I had on my files that I bought from Shutterstock. I don’t even know if I’ve shown it to you all before. But here’s our Wednesday Worthy Candidate:

So do you think he’s worthy?

Weekend Roundup

It was a pretty good weekend, I cleaned and worked. And an odd thing was happening…people are asking me what to bring for Thanksgiving. So I looked at the calendar and HOLY CRAP! We’re in November.

And it turns out that I’m doing Thanksgiving. All because one of my kids asked me too. When will I learn to say no?

Never mind this deadline bearing down on me. Oh wait, we’re not talking about that. I will say this much, I like my hero and heroine so that’s something :-)

In the whiny section of this blog, I have a cold. So far it’s mild.  So I decided that since CPA Boy and Special K were stopping by yesterday, I’d go to the store and buy a broasted chicken. Those are super flexible and easy to do something with whenever they stopped by. And if they weren’t hungry, then I’d make it into dinner for Wizard and me.

Easy.

Except the store didn’t have any broasted chickens out yet. So I came home with chocolate chip cookies instead.  I blame the cold. And my missing self control.  Wizard, by the way, thinks it’s hilarious and awesome that I went out of get chicken and came home with cookies. To celebrate my awesomeness, he went out and got us some dinner last night. And possibly, he didn’t trust me to cook.

How was your weekend?

Late Happy Friday!

Wizard and I ran out of candy! It was insane– 7 1/2 bags of candy gone in about an hour and a half. Then we had to hide :-) So I didn’t get my blog up.

This morning I discovered that someone (WIZARD!) had set aside some candy in one of the cupboards so now we still have candy in the house.  Sigh. At least I went to the gym, that’s something, right?

Okay first a little news that made my day yesterday.  THE PROPOSITION was on Galley Cat (an industry blog) with the header SELF PUBLISHED AUTHOR JENNIFER LYON AMONG TOP PAID iBOOKS. You can link to it here

So awesome! I actually didn’t see it, my formatter (love her!)  did and forwarded it to me.  Once aqain, I’m stunned, humbled and grateful.

And I also wanted to let everyone know that Silver Jame’s book SEASON OF THE WITCH is up at Amazon here

Season of the Witch Silver James

I have to get my copy!

This weekend is all work for me.  However next weekend I get to go see some old friends so I don’t mind sacrificing this weekend to work!

How was your Halloween? And what are you doing this weekend?

Halloween Worthy!

Happy Halloween to all who celebrate the Holiday! I have something like seven bags of candy all ready for the Trick-or-Treaters on Thursday!

But I don’t have a pumpkin yet.  I planned to pick one up yesterday and it didn’t work out, so I either get it today or I suck :-(

Middle Son, however, not only has a pumpkin but he’s carved it and sent me the picture:

Middle Son's Pumpkin

Middle Son did this freehand. He’s the most artistic of all of us, so I’m not surprised.

For our Worthy Guy Today, let’s play Who’s Hotter for Halloween:

It was a low key weekend, which was nice.  Although CPA B...

It was a low key weekend, which was nice.  Although CPA Boy and Special K are tormenting me by sending cute super cute pics of a dog they are thinking of getting. A little Min Pin that looks like a sweetheart. He’s a rescue, and I think he’s a few years old.

Who me? Jealous? Totally!

But then I got another text from Special K informing me that CPA Boy wants to name him Buttercup.

BUTTERCUP! For a boy dog! My son said this! So I did what I always do and relayed this to Wizard. Wizard got this hilariously offended look on his face,  stomped off and got his phone, then called both special K and CPA BOY’s phones and said under no circumstances where they to name this boy dog Buttercup.

And I realized two things at the point: My family is nuts (uh, DUH!)  and CPA Boy cleverly set up his dad using me and Special K.

Kudos CPA Boy! I fell right into your evil trap.

I also worked, of course. Cleaned a bit. And then last night Wizard and I went out for dinner. I was good and stuck to my chicken fajitas.

Then this showed up at the table.

Probably because I ordered it.  If anyone finds my self confront can you send it back? Please? I’m running out of clothes to wear! And excuses!

How was your weekend?
