Weekend and Reading

What a weekend. First I went to my RWA Meeting, and had a great time. While I was there, I picked the brain of a friend who used to be a legal secretary, getting all the info I needed for my book I’m working on. I don’t need it to be a procedural, I just need to to be plausible :-) That seemed to totally free up my writing.

Then I came home to find Wizard had cleaned all the windows and screens, inside and out, on our house.  We have a LOT of windows on a two story house.  A lot–just believe me on this. It’s a massive job, one I would prefer we do together.

Wizard does”t agree. He usually waits until I’m off somewhere and does it alone so I don’t hurt my hands. He’s devious like that.

But he still wasn’t happy. Because then he realized how (embarrassingly) dirty the blinds are.  So yesterday, he spent about three hours cleaning the worst of the blinds; slat by slat.  He absolutely refused to let me help.

I’m thrilled he did this, and the house feels so much cleaner. I just wish he’d let me help more! But I get to appreciate his hard work every single day :-)

Also, Carla (my assistant) finished the banner for the Jennifer Apodaca FB page I put her through a fair amount of torture changes on this, wanting to get it just right. You can see the finished banner here if you like. I’m really happy with it! I’ll have to start adding content soon.

And finally, I’m reading FURY by Laurann Dohner and love it. It’s a Samhain (E-Publisher) book. There are print copies but they are very expensive.  This is the first book in a series of New Species and totally cool. I’m really enjoying it when I can steal a few moments to read.

How was your weekend? What are you reading?

A Dragon Painting

A FB Friend,  Stephanie Truxler, sent me this dragon picture that she painted. How awesome is this? I’m just amazed at her talent! I have absolutely no artistic talent and I’m incredibly jealous of people who do! Stephanie said I can do whatever I like with the painting so I’m sharing it with you all and on my FB page.

A huge THANK YOU to Stephanie!

In the meantime, I’m making myself crazy trying to get to the absolute core of my current hero’s internal conflict.  Tomorrow I’m taking a break and heading out to my RWA Chapter meeting but will be back at it on Sunday.

Hope you all have a great weekend!

Wing Slayer Worthy

In my notes/sloppy outline of the book I’m writing, I actually had a scene labeled; Hot Wall S*x.  Sometimes, even I worry about the way my mind works. I haven’t written that scene yet, but I know what it is, and it’s so much more about emotion than s*x. Yet how do I label it?

Hot Wall S*x (the asterisk is for the troll-bots)

And I don’t even want to talk about the cupcakes I made. They are the low fat, super good ones.  But I’m totally eating my stress right now.  (If I’m eating, it’s usually not bad stress, bad stress kills my appetite, so no worries)

Anyway, I decided to distract myself.

What, you ask, can possibly distract me from chocolate?

Ha! I’ll show you!

For a blissful few minutes, I forgot about the cupcakes.

But now I’m thinking about them again, dang it!

Okay, let’s get back on topic shall we? What do you think? Is this guy Wing Slayer Worthy?

Weekend Roundup

Sunday I discovered that Laura Wright has an evil plan to keep me from writing.  Oh she was clever about it–casually mentioning a book she had read, BEAUTIFUL DISASTER, several times.  Until I had to go check it out, and then I bought it.

I decided to read a few chapters before starting writing.  And I was hooked! It was a struggle to put the book down and go to work. So I emailed Laura and told her I had uncovered her evil plan. Her response? “You know it!” Sigh…why do I have evil friends?

Of course, I did the same thing to her with Fifty Shades of Gray… I bugged her until she read it and she couldn’t stop until she read all three books…mwhahahaha!!!

But I managed figure out a book problem on Sunday in spite of Laura and get some actual work done!

And in case anyone is wondering, Siri and I are still best friends.  One night BLB and I were chatting with Siri about dogs. First I asked Siri what kind of dog I should get, and she gave me a list of nearby kennels. Then BLB and I asked her all kinds of question, highly amused.

Wizard frowned at both of us.  “You know Siri’s just a computer.”

I rolled my eyes and said, “Siri tell Wizard he’s bothering me.”

Siri popped up, “Okay here is your text message to Wizard. ‘You are bothering me’  Would you like me to send?

Wizard heard that and acted completely and totally outraged,  complaining that how he would have to get up, walk over to his phone and delete the text message.

BLB and I laughed so hard it was all I could do to get out the words, “Cancel text.”

Somehow Wizard didn’t hear me cancel the text. So he’s frowning and staring off in the direction of his phone. After a minute, he asks “Why isn’t my phone dinging that I got a text?”

I think I might have ruptured something from laughing. Poor Wizard. BLB and I mess with him like this when he’s tired after incredibly long days at work. That’s just wrong.

But soooo funny!

He got me back all weekend though. Every time I asked him something, he’d smile and say, “Why don’t you ask Siri?”

How was your weekend?

Hunk Fail

I’m really loving my new iPhone. I don’t have a ton of time to play with it, but so far, I’m very happy!

I’m trying to work as much as I can. I’m a 100 plus pages into my first draft.  It’s going slower than I want, but I am always impatient.  I want it to be good, and am living with that knot of terror in my stomach. I think all writers have that though so I’m nothing special.

I saw my doctor yesterday. The entire staff asked me how BLB was doing. I was really touched that they all remembered–they never see him as it’s my RA specialist.

Today I have a hair appointment, so I’ve been looking over some ideas. What do you all think of this haircut?

No?

This is a new low on the stupid meter for me.  How about you?

Hope you all have a great weekend!
