There’s so much needless pain
In this world

Animals sent to slaughterhouses
Children sent to sweatshops
Women sent to bedrooms
Men sent to wars

It happens
Every second
Every day
Every month
Every year

And you sit in bed
Safe and at peace
Feeling guilty
About worldly problems
You cannot fix

Flapping In The Wind

I think the religious people
Hold onto their belief of god
And an afterlife
With a paper-thin optimism
And the atheist people
Hold onto their belief of no god
And no afterlife
With a paper-thin scepticism

The Clock

The 8-hour job
Has you looking at
The clock
You’re at its mercy
Unable to leave
Until it shows
A certain number
And in the meantime
You stare at it
Watching the seconds eek by
Willing it
To move faster

The Gambler's Waltz

The man sits
At the pokies machine
Feeding it fifties
Banging its button
Over and over
But its not coughing up
So he bangs it harder
But it likes the taste of money
So he crosses the floor
And bangs another machine
But its a bank vault
So he crosses the floor
Bangs the machine
Tap, tap, tap
Step, step, step
Doing the gambler's waltz
Hoping this time the dance
Makes some music

They

They wrenched our communities apart
They killed spirituality
They celebrated nihilism
They digitised our social lives
They put poison in the foods and drink
They silence the dissidents
They profit off the poor
They put celebrities on a pedestal

They are laughing
They are dancing on your dignity
They don't care

The Holiday

We spend months
Working hard
Saving for a holiday
So that we can read
With a drink
On the beach
Or the park
But it's been there
For next to nothing
All along

The Fuel

As much as I hate
The agony
The restlessness
The discontent
I need it
It’s the fuel
That bites my arse
Keeps me moving
Towards a better
Future
Hopefully...

Success

The teachers at school
Tell us we can all be successful
But is there enough room
In the world
For everyone’s success
I guess it depends
On what your definition of
Success is
For me
Success is
Living a life
Where I can spend
Many hours a day
Sitting around
Feeling at peace
And the creditors
Are paid away

Life

Life is a struggle
But there's a beauty in it
Like a flower
Pushing through the concrete
