A story about two dysfunctional families coming together and finding commonality at the end of it all. A beautiful, poetic story that will stay with me for a long time. Winton is Australia's Steinbeck.

An insightful and timeless book of advice on how to live life to the fullest and savour it, rather than rush it. Just another book that makes me want to burn my TV and throw away my phone.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading through these essays by Orwell. Some interesting insight into some aspects of his life - particularly his early schooling years. If you plan on reading every sentence Orwell has ever typed, this book is recommended.

The Plague by Albert Camus

The Plague was a brilliant book. To me, I think Camus wanted to explore the psychology of people trying to retain their faith in God in the midst of being tortured by one of those things about life that really has no inherent meaning other than to ca ...more

An American spy playing a Nazi propagandist. How can a man committing unspeakable deeds of evil in the name of the greater good come out on the other side with a clear conscience?

Well, he can't.

A clever, interesting satire about just how ambiguous m

Some revolutionary ideas (for the time) and some not-so idyllic ones. Overall an interesting and, at its core, compassionate take on how a society should be run.

A disjointed (in a good way) and enlightening read as Vonnegut spirals into misanthropy whilst holding onto his humanist ideology. A must-read for Vonnegut lovers.

A quick, entertaining and funny insight into Roald Dahl's life as a boy. Some interesting stories and encounters with adults that no doubt inspired him later in life.

An absolute page-turner. Very interesting stories about his time spent in Africa and flying for the RAF in Greece during World War II.

It has a very heartwarming ending, and I'll leave it at that.
The Red Chilli by Michael Batchelor
"It was a journey that I invested all my time into. I loved this book! From all the twists and turns to the in-depth details about the characters. I felt like I truly knew them and was one of the characters following the events in the story. A good re" Read more of this review »

“Night-time, from the pig’s countless observations, serves a higher order of enthusiasm for the humans than daytime circus operations. Whether it's the tacky neon lights or hypnotic carnival music, the humans skip around as if they've discovered a festive utopia. When the arena is buzzing with a crowded house and the ringmaster can be heard romancing the masses, Walt becomes ill with anxiety.”
Michael Batchelor, Animal Circus

“Thousands of humans, visiting from all across the country to ogle and fondle the animals in their cages. Blinding, flashing lights. Music as mad as a March hare. The game stalls are fixed and the food turns the humans loud and rough. The showmen, all part of a petulant, foul-mouthed family, stink of cigarettes and beer and represent the lowest rung of human society.”
Michael Batchelor, Animal Circus

“All animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others.”
George Orwell, Animal Farm

“Things do not change; we change.”
henry david thoreau, Walden

“An early-morning walk is a blessing for the whole day.”
Henry David Thoreau

“If you tell the truth, you don't have to remember anything.”
Mark Twain

“Good friends, good books, and a sleepy conscience: this is the ideal life.”
Mark Twain
