Mystery Box

The scary thing
About having a kid
Is that you're buying
A product without
Knowing what's inside
And there's no receipt

Iced Latte

I bought an iced latte
For $6.50
It was 70% ice
30% latte
And 100% bullshit

Content Writer

7 years now
Writing websites for
Plumbers
Electricians
Florists
And yet they mean
Nothing compared to
This one poem
This one pure thought

Critics

If I ever make it
As a writer
I have a message
For all the critics
In this small poem
Hidden between the effort
And it's this:
Thanks for the motivation
Now piss off

Untitled

Why are we
In such a rush
To move forward
When death is ahead
Waiting to claim us
Once we're too tired
To fight back

Horror Story

War
Famine
Slaughterhouses
Infidelity
Banks
Tax fraud
Greed
Rape
Hit-and-runs
Bullying
Inventing hell

It's hard to accept
We're the villains
Of this story

Food Before Thought

I went to a Japanese place
With friends for dinner
The beer was cold
The conversation warm
Then afterwards
As I walked back to my car
I saw a homeless man
Sleeping on the grass
Cocooned in a blanket
Like a caterpillar
Never to become a butterfly
And I thought:
How can I enjoy such fortune
When tragedy is around the corner

A Paper-Perfect Day

There’s no such thing
As a perfect day
So I’ll put it on paper
It’s a sunny winter’s day
22 degrees
The roads are empty
We get every green light
And there’s a space
Right out front
Of our favourite breakfast place
Inside there’s no queue
And we get a free coffee
Because we’ve got the right amount
Of stamps
On the loyalty card
Then we walk along the beach
And the waves glitter
And the people are walking past
With their dogs
Smiling and laughing
Then we leave
The roads are ours
Red lights are forbidden
And there’s a space
Right out front
Of our favourite lunch place
And we get 15% off
Our favourite dish
Because there’s a special on
After that we see a movie
That we had low expectations for
But it was amazing
Then we get home
In record time
Because of the friendly traffic lights
And make dinner
While drinking booze
And listening to soft music
Then we go to the bedroom
Get hot
Before falling asleep
Melted together
While rain falls
Like happy tears
Against the window

Presence

This is a reminder
To myself
To immerse myself
In life
To acknowledge the wind
When it brushes by
To savour the food
When it hits the tongue
To digest the feeling
When it floods the heart

Concrete, Plastic and Glass

How can you
Expect to be authentic
When you’re surrounded by
Fakeness
