The Country Cannot Avoid Me

I have two national book tours coming up...I leave for one in a little over two weeks.
Excuse me a second. Aarrrggghhhh! But July 6 sounded so far away six months ago! Because it was! Time is always, always kicking my ass.
I'm better now. Anyway, I'm on a national book tour for UNDEAD AND UNFINISHED beginning July 6, dropping by various states (Texas, Nebraska, Illinois, Maryland...). My assistant, Tracy, has all the dates and places...uh...somewhere. Probably Facebook. And my web...

I Torment My Son

Something really cool happened yesterday. The cool thing combined three of my great loves: my son, writing, and mini chocolate chip cookies.
My husband/writing partner and I are blessed with kick-ass children. Also those packages of Toll House cookies, where the dough is already scored so you can break it off and plop it on a cookie sheet and have warm melty cookies in 9 to 11 minutes at 350 degrees.
Because our kids have known for the entirety of their lives that their parents love to...

I'm Bitten by Books

I'm spending the day playing nicely with others over at Bitten By Books, where they're promoting the hell out of my upcoming UNDEAD AND UNFINISHED. In return, I'm answering as many reader questions at that site that I can.
So pop over and pepper me inquiries, if you're so inclined. And possibly if you're not.

I Own Being Lame

I haven't written a new blog entry in almost a month, which I think is pretty swell.
See, up until about May 2009, I blogged sporadically...during a GOOD month. It seemed weird and lame to write about, as Elaine put it on SEINFELD, "the excruciating miutiae of everyday life".
"Today I wanted a ham sandwich, but we were out of ham, so I had a chicken sandwich instead, and it was good even though we were out of mayo."
Really? How is that interesting? To anyone? I mean, it's my life and...

I Ponder The Alaskan Royal Family...And The Awesomeness That Was Kate Duffy

I've had a couple of book ideas simmering in my febrile, yet terrifically fertile, brain for the better part of a year. I used to have the great privilege of writing for Kate Duffy, late of Planet Earth, badass book editor, and Poster Chick for Cool. The books she and I liked best were the Alaskan Royals series (The Royal Treatment, The Royal Pain, The Royal Mess). And although I haven't written a new one in three years, in my heart I was never finished with those pesky princes and princes...

I am lazy, then go to RT

Sorry about the lack of blogs lately...I've been unashamedly enjoying the super-cool spring weather. Blogging has been far, far from my mind. Also child care, grocery shopping, and personal hygiene.
The family and I are heading up north for something family-esque, and then Tuesday I leave for sexy Columbus, Ohio for the 2010 Romantic Times Convention. I look forward to this thing all year, mostly because I can score free books, but also because the RT convention is this strange parallel...

I Explain Why Writing Isn't Sexy

There's nothing sexy about being a working writer. It's a job that doesn't demand much from me; I don't have to worry about intermittent grooming, hideous eating habits, or acting like a sane, responsible human being. It's a job, in other words, for an immature adult with impulse control issues, deeply held grudges, and a penchant for foul language. It is...the perfect job for me.
That said, occasionally there IS something sexy about the gig. Last week my publisher flew me to New York...

I Devour The Big Apple

Devour probably isn't the right word. Contemplate, maybe. Investigate? Demean? Contaminate?
Whatever the word, I'm off to New York City next week. One of my publishers wants to introduce me to their sales reps and marketing team. This seemed like a terrible idea to me (I have fooled my very nice, very trusting editor, Monique, who thinks I am sane and unmedicated and responsible and moral and clean and thrifty and kind to small children and animals), but then I remembered: IT'S A FREE T...

Still Looming Threateningly Over Libraries

The good people running "Winter Jackets, Winter Reading for Adults" have not yet come to their senses, which means I'm still planning to show up. I'll be talking about upcoming books and donating more of my deathless prose to the local library. It'll be swell!
So, I'll be lurking in Blaine, MN, this Saturday (Feb. 27), at 2:00 p.m. for an hour or so. The library can be found on 711 County Road 10 NE (sorry about the weird type-o last week, no clue where J came from). For more info (or...

I Invade Anoka, MN

As part of my parole agreement, I'll be speaking next Saturday, Feb. 27, at the Northtown Library at their winter reading program for adults. It'll be at 711 County Road J NE, Blaine, MN. For more info, call 763-717-3267, or visit the libe website at www.anoka.lib.mn.us.
It's free (it would seem insult to injury to have to listen to me, *and* pay for the privelege...just ask the gang in Stillwater!), and I'll be donating several books to the library (I'm always happy to decrease the fire...
