The Dog Groomer Outs Me

Now that UNDEAD AND UNFINISHED is put to bed, I can once again focus on day-to-day matters I've spent the last six months ignoring. Things like grocery shopping, school activities, paying bills, sleeping, feigning love for my husband and children, driving kids places I have no interest in going, oil changes (it's cool how that red light goes on, it's how I know I should probably do something within the next eight weeks), and taking care of the dogs.
We have two, and we love them, but when...

I (Finally) Finish UNDEAD AND UNFINISHED

Whew! That was a big one. UNDEAD AND UNFINISHED is finally, contrary to the title, finished. I don't think I've ever been so happy to type The End before. Not that I didn't love writing it, because I absolutely did. But I vastly underestimated the time and research the book required.
There's a reason I don't write historicals...I'm pathologically lazy and dislike research. But I couldn't have Betsy and Laura stumbling through, say, Salem in the 1600s without doing a teeny bit of...

I Lurk During a Totally Criminal Cocktail Hour

Next week, on Wednesday, February 3 (how is it February next week? aaaggghh!), I'll be at the Dock Cafe in Stillwater, MN, for something intriguingly called the Totally Criminal Cocktail Hour. The name implies booze and bad character influences; naturally I'm on board.
The website for the store hosting this too-cool-for-school event is here:http://www.valleybookseller.com/
The phone number to get more info is here:651-430-3385
In addition to the pleasure of my company, there will be yummy...

Still Lazy, and Still Coughing Up Blurbs from UNDEAD AND UNFINISHED

So, as the title suggests, I'm in no mood to come up with something amusing yet meaningful. Also, it's just easier to cut and paste.
In this blurb, Betsy and Laura find themselves in Andover, Massachusetts, in 1692. Laura is doing everything she can to keep Betsy from messing with the time stream. Betsy, for her part, is a firm believe in Michael Crichton's "you can't screw up the past" theory.

I'm Too Lazy To Blog, So I Cut and Paste

I'm getting pretty fried finishing UNDEAD AND UNFINISHED, so rather than think up something to blog about, I'm just gonna paste a random paragraph from the manuscript into this entry. Enjoy my total lack of effort!

"All right. We'll go."

My sister looked relieved, which was an improvement over looking suicidal (or homicidal, come to think of it). "Right now?"

"Just a sec—let me go pack an overnight bag."

The Anti-Chrit blinked. "Why?"

"Why? Laura, we're...

I Enjoy the Heck Out of 2009

So, a new year. Which is terrific, because I love it when the year is an even number. I've always preferred even numbers over odd. So I feel pretty good about it being 2010. I have no explanation for that.
2009 was the best year of my life, so far; I think it's sort of wonderful that you can reach a milestone like 40 and your best years are not behind you. Hmm, I read over that last sentence and it sounds like I live in a rocking chair and have an enormous ear horn people can shout...

I Am Tortured Online and Ultimately (Not) Helped

So, I do much of my shopping online because I'm lazy and indifferent to identity theft. Also I dislike driving. And I have a crush on the hunky UPS fellow who brings me things (he's like Santa for grown-ups, y'know, if Santa was hot).
But things don't always go well. I was trying to order something for my mother-in-law, partly because I was moved by the spirit of the season, but also as a craven attempt to once again buy her love.
My reward for being an awesomely dutiful daughter-in-law ...

I Have a Great Christmas, Probably

Christmas Eve is tomorrow, a time when my children instantly forget all the ways we have indulged them throughout their lives, and cough up more demands than a ransom note. Also: *I* cough up more demands than a ransom note. What can I say? I'm weak. Also vain and selfish. I'm owning it, okay? 'Tis the season for extortion, or however the saying goes.
JENNIFER SCALES AND THE POISON MOON has been put to bed, wee-hee! And now I'm starting copy edits for ME, MYSELF, AND WHY. And I'll be ...

Still Forced To Cooperate

My husband and I are on the last stretch for RISE OF THE POISON MOON. And I have to say, I'm really proud of the book and love how it came out (so far...there's still about 15 pages to go!). And with the holidays being so crazy-busy, it's pretty great to share the work with another writer. (Ah yes, I have my own in-house writer and editor...whom I have to sleep with, of course, but it's worth it to get the work out of him.)

I Am Forced To Cooperate With My Husband

Tony and I are on the home stretch with RISE OF THE POISON MOON, the next Jennifer Scales book. I'm having a lot of fun with this one, most because of the budding romance between two of the characters. I can honestly that, after JENNIFER SCALES AND THE ANCIENT FURNACE, which was the first book in the series, this one has been my favorite to work on.
Best of all? I only have to do half the work! So I only have half the headaches. Or is it twice the headaches? My math has always sucked.
Any...
