A fright tonight? What’s your reading appetite? Try “Graphic” on for size.
There are a lot of things that any modern girl with a love for all things mysterious and creepy looks for in a book, but Graphic:Cultivating to the Last Pixel… by Alex H. Singh taps a few of my personal favourites: break-up, supernatural, and cult. Now, everyone loves a classic tale of a girl who quits her job and starts over somewhere new after a disastrous break-up. It’s tried and true. There is nothing I like more than watching a girl rise from the metaphorical ashes of a relationship with some jerk. Now, this story isn’t entirely that. If anything, it’s less rise-from-the-ashes and more… walk into the fire.
Daniela, a graphic designer, is the main character. She seemingly has all of the makings of a solid protagonist, and a better career choice than most I’ve encountered. But, since this isn’t The Devil Wears Prada, as a reader, we can all care less about her job and are more interested in her transition from being the girl who drops her life and head’s for something new to a girl dealing with being chased down by cult members and might or might not be possessed by some sort of evil creature that is interested in using her for a terrible purpose.
(Did someone say supernatural subplot?)
Though I’m sure we can all agree that fearing for your life and those of your loved ones would be pretty terrible, it sure makes for an interesting story. Especially when there are cults involved that are thought to be doing some pretty creepy things. If you’re interested in finding out what kind of creepy things the cult members are doing and what exactly it was that Daniela saw to bring down the unwanted attention of this fanatic group, then this might just be the book for you.
Basically, this is a classic tale of the girl who saw too much and was being hunted by the wrong kind of people because of it. Except, instead of gangsters, it’s rumoured cult members who weren’t supposed to be anything more than a town’s collective paranoia. And, well, there’s a bit of unspeakable evil with disastrously evil intent.
Okay, it might not be that classic.
But, hey, you have to admit that it sounds pretty cool.
Enjoy!

Releasing this summer…..”Lamp of Light”
Everyone likes a good fairy tale. “Lamp of Light” is only the first book out of three which happens to be a DARK retelling of the popular take of Snow White but this version is unlike anything you have read before.
As soon as you start the book you will be whisked away to the Kingdom of Tibethia where you will meet Queen Esther who is on the run as she is accused of murder….
Here is a teaser from “Lamp of Light”
“As she ran, the blood pounded in her ears, and her mind strayed far away, back to the beginning of the string of events that led to her current predicament. There was no way she could have envisioned such a turn of events. What had started as an effort at solidarity and peace, a joining of powerful families to save a dying Kingdom had steadily dissolved, revealing an evil of such tremendous proportions that she could never have possibly known.”
Daily Life as Inspiration
The key to writing, for me, is to translate the world around you into something that other people can experience and feel in their own way. Because of this, I, and I assume any other writer you might ever meet, use the world around us to draw inspiration from what we’re doing. There are certain things that can be seen and experienced in daily life that can end up being the perfect inspiration for a character or scene in a novel later. It doesn’t matter what kind of genre you write in, there are things that you will witness that can be applied as the perfect inspiration for all kinds of unexpected things.
Interacting with people and witnessing their habits and speech patterns can be very inspiring when it comes to designing characters. There is an art to taking something that you see in one circumstance and then applying it to a person or scene that really has nothing to do with it. Still, when you manage to align the two, that is where magic happens. In my experience, I am always distinctly more drawn to a scene when it has something from my actual life, as I find myself more connected to it. You never know what you might see or learn while you’re out running errands in your daily life. Keep your eyes open, and always write down anything that inspires you.

Alice in Wonderland Review
There is absolutely no denying what a treasure the classic novel Alice in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll is. As a young girl, I always loved the movie, but had never gotten around to reading the book until much later. Though I’m sure that every living being around has at least some exposure to this tale, I’ll do my best to avoid spoilers.
Let’s start with Alice. Alice is a stubborn girl who always has her head in the clouds. She is adorably sensible despite making wild decisions. Alice is a great character and I feel as if she is the only character that ever could have been written into a story like this and have it all fall together this beautifully. She is hilarious, and appropriately baffled by the things that she encounters in Wonderland. She is also fierce and is quick to point out when other people aren’t being proper. It is amusing to see Alice’s role reversed from one who needs to be scolded to the one doing the scolding. All in all, she’s a classic novel darling, and there is a reason that she’s such a pop culture icon.
The truly interesting part about the story is watching Alice navigate this absolutely bonkers world known as Wonderland. She finds herself interacting with all kinds of people who are in some regard strangely reminiscent of ones that she knows, some good and some bad. Still, whether it be talking flowers or a caterpillar with a pipe, Alice finds her way to politely interact with each and every person that she meets in this bizarre place.
Alice in Wonderland is a classic tale of a girl who finds herself in a world that she can’t quite understand as she struggles to use logic in a place that has never heard of it. The wonder within Wonderland will absolutely keep you turning pages.
Let’s just say that it is a classic for a reason.
Go and read it. You won’t be disappointed.

Desiring Demure-A Second Chances Novella
This novel, much like many of its genre, follows a classic tale of a woman called Demure who just isn’t ready to put it all out there. In fact, she’s barely ready to be away from her daughter for even a night. After a messy divorce, going to the pub with her sister in search of hot guys, sounds downright dangerous. Of course, that doesn’t stop Demure’s sister from making her put on a tempting little outfit. Unsurprisingly, Demure finds herself flirting and dancing with a particularly attractive man. Let’s just say one thing leads to another, and before long Demure is awake with a pounding headache, naked, and wondering what the heck happened last night. The man in bed next to her clear’s it up.
Now, Demure is quick to order the attractive stranger from her house. Albeit a bit awkwardly, because she can’t actually remember the stranger’s name and is too embarrassed to ask. What follows is a tale of Finn (a.k.a. the hot stranger) as he seeks out our darling Demure and focuses on teaching her on what passion can mean, and how addictive it can be.
This little number is one of daring and uncontrollable passion.
The real question is: can Demure heal enough to allow Finn into her life?
So, if you’re looking for a great story about love and… well, other things, then read this book.
You won’t be disappointed.

Life of Pi Review
Every once in a while, as a reader, you find yourself reading a book that just blows your mind. I live for this moments when reading. The funny thing is that books like this don’t tend to be my favorite, but they are something I always strive for because it is in these confounding books that you find yourself questioning things about the world around you. For me, that’s kind of the point of reading, to look through someone’s eye and see what they see.
Life of Pi is undoubtedly one of these books. Everything about this book is bizarre and a little dark. The story follows the main character, Pi, as he lives with his family while they run a zoo. Ultimately, the tale shifts and focuses on Pi as he survives with a myriad of animals after the ship transporting succumbs to the sea. Pi remains alive, afloat on a lifeboat.
Ultimately, the story drifts into a tension where Pi is essentially waiting for the tiger, Richard Parker, to eat him like his father always said he would. What ensues is a bizarre and interesting tale about a boy who subscribes to multiple religions, attempts to tame a tiger, and ultimately finds himself to be a major component of a most interesting tale.
Now, I won’t tell you how it ends. I will, however, tell you that while you’re reading you’ll probably be so entranced in this bloody and bizarre tale that you won’t even be able to guess how it ends or where it is going next.
So, if you’re into tales about an odd little boy who grows to be an odd little teenager surviving an endless sea (pun intended) of situations while he fights for his own survival and strives to understand his place in the world, then this book is absolutely for you.
It is no surprise to me that this book is as famous as it is. It hints at being one of those treasures that evolves with time as you read it more and more. I’ll get back to you on that one, but for now I will say that it’s worth the read.
So, enjoy.

Alone time with Book & Coffee
Every writer I know seems to know that the need for coffee is strong. If not for coffee, how would things ever get done, right? My favourite part about coffee isn’t actually that it gives me the energy to finish the things that I need to get done. Oh, no. That’s too simple. Actually, my favourite part of drinking coffee isn’t when I need to get something done, but rather when I can take my coffee-fueled mind and settle into doing something for myself. Personally, I really enjoy having some nicely brewed coffee while I settle down with the book.
Obviously, as we all learned as children through bedtime stories, there is a certain tiredness that can be brought on by reading depending on what sort of reading you’re doing. Drinking coffee while reading wakes my mind up enough to actually allow me to really focus on whatever it is that I’m reading. I’ve even found that reading something particularly exciting after a hot cup of coffee can make you get really caught up in the action of a good story. There are times where I’ve had some coffee and read something particularly gripping and basically found myself just consumed by the scene so fiercely it was as if I was the character, boundless energy and all. For me, having the energy to do the things that I want to do makes me able to enjoy them that much more. It always feels a little indulgent, but I wouldn’t trade it for anything.
