Alone time with Book & Coffee
Every writer I know seems to know that the need for coffee is strong. If not for coffee, how would things ever get done, right? My favourite part about coffee isn’t actually that it gives me the energy to finish the things that I need to get done. Oh, no. That’s too simple. Actually, my favourite part of drinking coffee isn’t when I need to get something done, but rather when I can take my coffee-fueled mind and settle into doing something for myself. Personally, I really enjoy having some nicely brewed coffee while I settle down with the book.
Obviously, as we all learned as children through bedtime stories, there is a certain tiredness that can be brought on by reading depending on what sort of reading you’re doing. Drinking coffee while reading wakes my mind up enough to actually allow me to really focus on whatever it is that I’m reading. I’ve even found that reading something particularly exciting after a hot cup of coffee can make you get really caught up in the action of a good story. There are times where I’ve had some coffee and read something particularly gripping and basically found myself just consumed by the scene so fiercely it was as if I was the character, boundless energy and all. For me, having the energy to do the things that I want to do makes me able to enjoy them that much more. It always feels a little indulgent, but I wouldn’t trade it for anything.
