There are a lot of things that any modern girl with a love for all things mysterious and creepy looks for in a book, but Graphic:Cultivating to the Last Pixel… by Alex H. Singh taps a few of my personal favourites: break-up, supernatural, and cult. Now, everyone loves a classic tale of a girl who quits her job and starts over somewhere new after a disastrous break-up. It’s tried and true. There is nothing I like more than watching a girl rise from the metaphorical ashes of a relationship with some jerk. Now, this story isn’t entirely that. If anything, it’s less rise-from-the-ashes and more… walk into the fire.

Daniela, a graphic designer, is the main character. She seemingly has all of the makings of a solid protagonist, and a better career choice than most I’ve encountered. But, since this isn’t The Devil Wears Prada, as a reader, we can all care less about her job and are more interested in her transition from being the girl who drops her life and head’s for something new to a girl dealing with being chased down by cult members and might or might not be possessed by some sort of evil creature that is interested in using her for a terrible purpose.

(Did someone say supernatural subplot?)

Though I’m sure we can all agree that fearing for your life and those of your loved ones would be pretty terrible, it sure makes for an interesting story. Especially when there are cults involved that are thought to be doing some pretty creepy things. If you’re interested in finding out what kind of creepy things the cult members are doing and what exactly it was that Daniela saw to bring down the unwanted attention of this fanatic group, then this might just be the book for you.

Basically, this is a classic tale of the girl who saw too much and was being hunted by the wrong kind of people because of it. Except, instead of gangsters, it’s rumoured cult members who weren’t supposed to be anything more than a town’s collective paranoia. And, well, there’s a bit of unspeakable evil with disastrously evil intent.

Okay, it might not be that classic.

But, hey, you have to admit that it sounds pretty cool.
