Anyone can tell someone else what to do. But our associates and our kids and our friends will do what we do, not what we say. When we live our faith in the workplace, it has a bigger impact than when we simply tell people about Jesus.

In That Day – John 16:23
What are you waiting for?
Don’t we all wait for something? Or are you hoping for something?
In that day is a phrase of forecast, prophesy. Depending on your translation, Jesus uses it up to 5 times. In John 16:23 and 16:26 he uses it and he’s encouraging the disciples. In that day we can ask anything of the Father. the Jews didn’t go directly to God the Father. They needed an intermediary, a priest.

Calling All Sinners – Luke 5:32
How do you think of yourself in relation to Jesus? What role does Jesus have for you and me?
Notice how Jesus makes a bit of a play on words here. We know his salvation is for any who would believe. But often, the people who think they’re OK take a pass. Jesus knows his message is for those who realized accurately the situation they’re in. They know they’re sinners. They know they come up short.

Withdraw To Pray – Luke 5:16
Do you prioritize prayer?
Notice how even when Jesus became very busy (vs. 15), that he still made time to pray. What about our faith are you too busy to do? Let God answer that for you.
Now, what will you do about it? Can you make time for God? Or are you in too big a hurry? We make God small by living like there are things we must do.

Do you ever feel like you need to tell someone something to help them correct an error in what they say or do?

Have you ever noticed that in social media we can easily find people who agree with us and disagree with someone else? Have you noticed that much of what is “news” today is just someone saying what they thought about what someone else said or did?
I see many Christ-followers online who speak against other Christ-followers.

Pride Vs. Humility Part 4 – James 4:10
What causes you to be humble?
When I’m around someone who is clearly superior to me, I appreciate them more. And I also think I assess myself more accurately too.
Humility is accurately assessing my position and rank. If you or I stood next to a star athlete or someone in top physical condition, we see ourselves more accurately simply from the comparison.
Imagine standing next to God! When we come into the presence of the Lord, we will be humbled, for sure.

Pride Vs. Humility Part 3 – James 4:8-9
How far should our humility go?
When we draw near to him, he draws near to us, too. This is a great reminder. I’ve spoken before that this verse is behind our belief that ministry is just helping others move one notch closer to Jesus. Humility is remembering he is the source of our happiness and joy. It’s not our actions and our efforts.
We talked yesterday about submitting to God and doing what he says.

Pride Vs. Humility Part 2 – James 4:7
What are you most proud of?
I used to think pride wasn’t bad. You may not think it’s very bad either. We spoke yesterday about how God is opposed to the proud. Today, James follows that up with the idea that we need to submit to God.
Do you tell God no? I confess I do. I really don’t want to know how often. But I catch myself telling him no all the time.
