Give An Account – 1 Peter 3:15
Why are you doing this?
“But sanctify Christ as Lord in your hearts, always being ready to make a defense to everyone who asks you to give an account for the hope that is in you, yet with gentleness and reverence.” 1 Peter 3:15 NASB
Peter challenges us “to give an account for the hope that is in you.” In the ESV, it says “give a reason.” Our fifth daily habit is to speak for ourselves.

Ready to Share the Faith
The December 15 entry in My Utmost for His Highest, Approved To God, is very important and directly related to the ministry of Follower of One. The author challenges us to always be ready to talk about our faith.
But we can’t get ready if all we do is read and listen. We must talk about the change Christ has made in us. We must practice that dialog with our Christian friends. We must say what we’ve experienced so it becomes natural to us.

Prepared for Good Work – 2 Timothy 2:20-21
Are you qualified to serve?
2 Timothy 2:20-21 says “Now in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and silver but also of wood and clay, some for honorable use, some for dishonorable. Therefore, if anyone cleanses himself from what is dishonorable, he will be a vessel for honorable use, set apart as holy, useful to the master of the house, ready for every good work.” (ESV)
Sometimes, I meet people who think their job as a Christ-follower is to just stay out of trouble.

Learn to Teach – 2 Timothy 2:15
Are you qualified to teach others about Jesus?
“Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who has no need to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth.” 2 Timothy 2:15 ESV
I’ve talked about this verse before, but it never hurts to talk about it again. Today, on the Marketplace Mission Trip, we talk about knowing what you believe. We’re called to be ready to accurately handle the word of truth.
Can you explain why you’re different in a way that explains to someone else who Jesus is and what part he had in your transformation?

Appreciation as Ministry – 1 Corinthians 13:13
Do you appreciate other people?
“Now these three remain: faith, hope, and love—but the greatest of these is love.” – 1 Corinthians 13:13 (CSB)
Ministry is service. When we serve others, so they might see Jesus, we’re in ministry.
Everyone wants to be appreciated. Even those that seem to reject appreciation do so because they believe there’s a hidden motive. But we all want to be valued, appreciated, first in someone else’s mind.
The Bible calls it love.

Praying to Our Father – Matthew 6:9
How often do you pray? Do you think about prayer much?
Matthew 6:9 (ESV) – “Pray then like this: ‘Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name.”
Today we’re starting a Marketplace Mission Trip. And the first of our 5 Daily Habits in Follower of One is to pray. When we read Matthew 6, we find Jesus talking about prayer and in verse 9, he starts one of the most-repeated prayers.

Sticking To Our Choices – Luke 14:31-33
Do you keep your word?
Today’s passage is Luke 14:31-33: “Or what king, going to war against another king, will not first sit down and decide if he is able with ten thousand to oppose the one who comes against him with twenty thousand? If not, while the other is still far off, he sends a delegation and asks for terms of peace. In the same way, therefore, every one of you who does not renounce all his possessions cannot be my disciple.” Luke 14:31-33 CSB
I tell myself stories.

Last month I shared on spiritual wellness. This began a series that will help grow your overall wellness. The next area we’ll explore is mental and emotional wellness. Let’s face it: The past few years have been very challenging for all of us.
The Choices We Make – Luke 14:26-28
How hard is it to be a disciple of Jesus?
Today’s passage is Luke 14:26-28 “If anyone comes to me and does not hate his own father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters—yes, and even his own life—he cannot be my disciple. Whoever does not bear his own cross and come after me cannot be my disciple. “For which of you, wanting to build a tower, doesn’t first sit down and calculate the cost to see if he has enough to complete it?” (CSB)
Sometimes, you’ll hear a pastor talk about this verse in Luke 14:26 and some of the verses following this and they’ll make it sound like a disciple is some “special” Christian.

Serving with Patience – Ecclesiastes 7:8
Contrast patience with pride. We can’t serve Jesus if we’re proud.
Today’s passage is Ecclesiastes 7:8 “Better is the end of a thing than its beginning, and the patient in spirit is better than the proud in spirit.” (ESV)
We spent some time talking about humility recently. Notice how in this passage pride is contrasted with patience. How does that work itself out in the life of a workplace Christ-follower?
Pride wants what it wants.
