ARC Review: Lady of Hell and Fury by Brianna West

Lady of Hell and Fury by Brianna WestARC Review:

*I was gifted a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. I have not been paid of this review, and I am under no obligation to give a positive review.

Due for release: September 8th 2023

Pre-order here: Lady of Hell and Fury

Wow, long time readers of West’s books will definitely agree that this is her darkest book by far. Lady is a full blown, bat-wielding anti-heroine who lives in the morally grey area that I personally find intriguing to read.

Nova is *chefs kiss*. Again, another morally grey character who proves the perfect love interest for Lady, and someone for you root for. The steamy scenes also kick up a notch demon style, especially when an angel comes onto the scene.

If you are after a paranormal read that sits in the morally grey, with a healthy spice rating, than check this book out.

So, by now, you are probably aware that I have been slowly working on another writing prompts book, Seasonal Writing Prompts.

If you saw my June updates post, you’ll know that I have set a release date for August 1st. So, this is the cool part- I would love for some ARC reviewers/ writers who are interested in using writing prompt books, or simply just to have a read through of the prompts and see what you think.

If you’d be interested, please comment below or email me with your preferred email address and I can send a pdf file your way.

I have a packed month ahead what with finalising the release of my book, Seasonal Writing Prompts, and I thought we’d kick off with a blurb reveal…

Is that blank page more daunting than usual?

We all need a little nudge of inspiration from time to time, and writing prompts are the perfect way to flex those writing muscles.

Use this book of 120 seasonal writing prompts to build a catalogue of short stories or story starters.

June Update 2023

June has been the month for sunny weather, getting summer ready, and contemplating how on Earth we are half way through 2023 already.

Writing

First things first. I have set up a TikTok account for all things writerly and Bookish. My tag is @k.j.chapmanwriter.

As you’ll remember from last month, I’m no longer tracking my word counts. I’ve had a lot of thinking days, but to me they’re all writing days as I am sorting out plot holes etc.

That being said, I have definitely written at least seven chapters of my WIP.

The big news, however, is that I have finished my Seasonal Writing Prompts book. It’s been a slow process without a deadline, but I’m thrilled to have another prompt book completed.

Here’s a teaser from this month, though…

Blogging

This month, I discussed how as writers we can’t be everyone’s cup of tea and why that is just fine. If you didn’t catch it on the 14th, you can check it out here:

Not Everyone’s Cup of Tea

My Prompt Me book was on free promo at the beginning of the month, and I think I had my best downloads yet for that book, so thank you.

Reading

I read the dystopian novel, The Gender Game by Bella Forrest. I’ve also started an ARC of a paranormal romance, but I can’t share details of that just yet.

The Gender Game Review

What’s Next?

I now have a release date for my Seasonal Writing Prompts book. August 1st!!!! More on that in the next few days.

I plan to hit the 75% mark on my fiction WIP.

Zombies and Budgie Smugglers will be on free promo from July 3rd!!

Book Review: The Gender Game by Bella Forrest

The Gender Game by Bella ForrestReview:

In a world divided in two, one half ruled by women, the other ruled by men, Violet finds herself in a battle of the sexes.

The world building and ideology behind Matrus and Patrus was an interesting read. Violet’s mission into Patrus gives insight into how the Patriachy choose to rule and control the women in the country, just as her time in Matrus and the treatment of her younger brother does for the men in her home country.

It took me a little while to get into this book, but when Viggo was introduced, I knew I would like where the narrative was headed, even if a little predictable.

A dystopian read with a teeny bit of romance and a deep delve into sexism on both sides.

Why It Is Okay to Not Be Everyone’s Cup of Tea…

I’ve seen a lot of Tiktoks and Instagram posts about authors who are struggling to process some harsh reviews. *Maybe it’s the algorithm messing with my head. *

Of course, negative reviews sting, I’ve been there, but it doesn’t mean you are a rubbish author. Guess what? Harry Potter even gets rubbish reviews! Come on, who doesn’t like HP?

What does it mean?

1. You’re writing style or genre may not be to that readers taste.

2. You may use or not use certain tropes that a reader likes/ dislikes.

3. You may write in a POV and tense the reader isn’t comfortable with.

The reasons are endless, but it doesn’t mean you should give up on yourself or beat yourself up. It’s okay to not be everyone’s cup of tea. That’s life, but it doesn’t mean your cup of tea is any less tasty to the right person!

Do you, write what you want to read, and there will be an audience out there for you!

May Update 2023

May has been a month of ups and downs. We had a gorgeous local festival, the coronation, some lovely weather, and a whole lot of sickness! Thankfully, I avoided it, but as a Mum, I was right in the thick of it all.

Writing

I’m no longer tracking word counts. I did say I would start writing sprints… they didn’t happen. It was a month of trying to fit in even ten minutes of writing a day and having to accept that as enough.

Here’s a teaser from this month, though…

Blogging

I enjoyed the topic of the month: character driven narratives. I explored the pros and cons in this blog post: Who’s Telling This Story?

Thrown to The Blue had its time to shine on free promo. Did you get your copy? Thank you to all who downloaded.

Reading

It was a month of 2 great reads for me. You can check out my reviews here:

The Eve Illusion

Shatter Me

What’s Next?

I do plan to focus on writing sprints in the coming month. I will promise to keep you updated via my Instagram account.

There is a title reveal coming soon. I have set my heart on one now. I am also perfecting the blurb. Man, I hate writing any kind of synopsis.

Finally, don’t forget to watch out for my free book promo on June 3rd.
