Author Bio:
Rose Garcia is a lawyer turned writer who’s always been fascinated by science fiction and fantasy. From a very young age, she often had her nose buried in books about other-worlds, fantastical creatures, and life and death situations. More recently she’s been intrigued by a blend of science fiction and reality, and the idea that some supernatural events are, indeed, very real. Fueled by her imagination, she created The Final Life Series—a Young Adult science fiction/fantasy series about people who have the ability to control the energy in and around them. Rose is known for bringing richly diverse characters to life as she draws from her own cultural experiences. Rose lives in Houston, Texas with her awesome husband and two amazing kids. The Brightest Darkness and Interview with Kate L. Mary

Picture There was something evil living in Andrew. I’d seen it in his eyes, reflecting back at me like a spotlight. It was the brightest darkness I’d ever seen, bright enough to snuff every one of us out…

Still reeling from loss, Kellan and Regan set out to rescue Harper from Andrew and his men. Only now they aren’t just fighting to free a teenage girl, they’re fighting to keep a promise to the man who saved them, knowing if they fail, Harper won’t be the only one at risk.

Joining forces with a new group means having help and making friends, but it also brings new conflict and the risk of losing everything they’ve worked to build over the last night years. With zombies banging at their door and the threat of danger around every corner, Regan and Kellan will have to fight to keep their world secure and their secret from getting out.

Author Bio:
Kate L. Mary is an award-winning author of New Adult and Young Adult fiction, ranging from Post-apocalyptic tales of the undead, to Speculative Fiction and Contemporary Romance. Her YA book, When We Were Human, was the 2015 Children's Moonbeam Book Awards Silver Medal Winner for Young Adult Fantasy/Sci-Fi Fiction, and the 2016 Readers' Favorite Gold Medal Winner for Young Adult Science Fiction, and her dystopian novel, Outliers, was a Top 10 Finalist in the 2018 Author Academy Awards for Sci-Fi/Fantasy, and the Winner in the 2018 Kindle Book Awards for Sci-Fi/Fantasy.

Interview with Kate L. Mary:
·  Does writing energize or exhaust you?
It depends on the day. I love to write and for me it can be very relaxing, but there are times when I have a lot going on in my personal life and find it difficult to concentrate. If I have a deadline, I try to power through, but otherwise I force myself to take a break.
·  What are common traps for aspiring writers?
These days, with the prevalence of self-publishing, skipping hiring an editor is becoming more and more common. Not only do you need a professional editor to look over your work, but you need more than one set of eyes on your story so you can put out the best product possible. That means critique partners, beta readers, AND an editor. Too many people are skipping one or all of these steps. When that happens, not only are readers getting a sub par product, but the writer is never going to grow. You need feedback from other people so you can learn how to better shape a story and build characters. No one, not even Stephen King himself, should put out a book that hasn’t been through very thorough revisions and editing.
·  Does a big ego help or hurt writers?
There really needs to be balance. You have to believe in yourself in this industry or you’re not going to make it. You could write the best novel in history and someone, somewhere isn’t going to like it. You can’t please everyone no matter what you do. However, you have to be humble enough to be able to take constructive criticism.
·  What is your writing Kryptonite?
Really just stress in daily life. When I get too tired or too overwhelmed, it can be hard to get work done.
·  Have you ever gotten reader’s block?
I have four kids and a lot going on in my personal life, so it’s bound to happen. Usually if I take a break it works itself out, though.
·  Did you ever consider writing under a pseudonym?
Briefly, but I want everyone to know I wrote my books, so ultimately I decided not to.
·  Do you try more to be original or to deliver to readers what they want?
I have to be true to me, because ultimately I write for myself. Plus, it’s literally impossible to give everyone what they want. I remember one book where some reviewers complained that the main character got over a death took quickly, while other readers complained that she whined about it too much. Everyone sees things in a different light, so as long as I make myself happy, I’m okay.
·  Do you think someone could be a writer if they don’t feel emotions strongly?
I think it’s possible, but most likely the writing would come across as stiff and the characters probably wouldn’t seem very realistic.
·  What other authors are you friends with, and how do they help you become a better writer?
I have a handful of author friends that I’ve met over the years on social media, and a few I’ve actually gotten to hang out with in person. It’s good to have people to talk to when you’re struggling to stay positive, either when you have a book out on submission with editors or you’re not getting such great reviews. It’s also handy for blurb writing. I swear, it’s easier to write an entire book than to write a three paragraph blurb that will pull readers in. I used to use other authors as beta readers, too, but we’re all so busy and now that I’ve been around for a while, I have readers who do this for me. They’re thrilled to get a chance to read one of my books early, and I’m extremely grateful for the help!
·  Do you want each book to stand on its own, or are you trying to build a body of work with connections between each book?
My zombie series, Broken World, is 11 books long, and while I haven’t kept writing in that series, I do have other zombie novels that take place in the same world and enjoy adding small details to connect the story to the original series. It’s fun for my readers, too, since Broken World is a fan favorite.
·  If you could tell your younger writing self anything, what would it be?
To just write. I’ve always wanted to be a writer, and I did some when I was younger, but I didn’t finish my first full novel until I was 32 years old, after having 4 kids.
·  How did publishing your first book change your process of writing?
It hasn’t really, except that now I know that people are not only going to buy it, but they’re going to be excited to read it. When I put out my first book, I was really just hoping a couple people other than friends and family would buy it, so the fact that I not only have very dedicated readers, but that I’ve sold nearly 50k books and had over 20 million pages read through Kindle Unlimited, makes it easier in a way to keep typing.

My #believeinmagic e-newsletter series!

[image error] Over the next few months I will be featuring authors and artists who believe in spreading positivity in our world. Why? Glad you asked! As a young adult I became entrenched in the believe that I wasn't good enough. This lead to behaviors that were self-destructive and ultimately life threatening. But people came into my life that were, as I call them now, my magic people. They helped me feel like a valuable human again. That is why I believe magic happens. I see it in acts of kindness, love, bravery, and connection and aim to perpetuate messages of acceptance, hope, and courage through my characters and stories.

That's why I'm launching this believe in magic campaign!
Over the next few months I'll be interviewing authors and magic makers!
I hope you'll follow along! You can join in by signing up to receive my newsletter here!

All the best,
Tricia

New book review - Dark and Bright by P.M. Hernandez

Picture Today I'm highlighting my most recent read by author P. M. Hernandez! I've followed P. M. from the beginning of her writing career (we're sort of books sisters) and I'm really excited to talk about her latest release. I pre-ordered this book because I've enjoyed her other YA books and honestly didn't read past the first two sentences of the synopsis.

First off, the cover drew me in right away and the title peaked my interest. I started reading what I thought to be sort of a coming-of-age romance. What the story became blew me away. There are surprises and turns throughout the book and the ending was perfect to me. This book gets 5* from me!

The premise: Caroline Faux is a seventeen year-old girl sheltered from the outside world due to health concerns. Ethan Ramirez is an investigator posing as a gardener. He and his team believe Caroline's father, a geneticist, is performing unethical experiments. The story switches back and forth between Caroline's and Ethan's points of view.

From the back cover: Caroline Franx lives in isolation because her father, a world-renowned geneticist, worries about her fragile health. Despite having everything her heart desires, her days are sometimes lonely and tedious. Sacrificing a normal life for safety never bothered her until she meets a handsome gardener who makes her want to experience the world beyond the confines of her home.

Ethan Ramirez is no gardener. He’s at the Franx estate to unearth the atrocities his team is certain the good doctor is committing and bring those crimes into the light of day. The pretty Caroline seems like an angel, but Ethan soon wonders if she’s cloistered on the estate for her protection or for everyone else’s.
NOTE: Please be advised this book has content that may be upsetting for assault survivors. Recommended for mature readers, 16 and older.

Find on Goodreads here!

Find out more about P.M. Hernandez and her other books (gargoyles and sci-fi, oh my!) on her website!

Dream Walker from Bridgette O'Hare

[image error] I'm excited to share Bridgette O'Hare's new release, Dream Walker, with you today! I met Bridgette a few years ago at an author conference. Her warmth, humor, and openness are amazing and I count myself lucky to know her! So... on to all the good stuff... here's the deets from the back cover...

To realize who you are, you must forget who they taught you to be
.
Darkness flows through Halle Michaels. Darkness suppressed by the expectations of being the ideal daughter, the perfect friend, and the stereotypical girl next door.

Now, her family’s past has caught up to her. When Halle discovers she was meant to follow in her father’s footsteps—footsteps she’s certain led to his untimely death—she must forget every lie she’s been taught about who she is.

Hunted by Hell’s elite and armed only with what she can decipher from her father’s cryptic journal, she turns to Aedan Jeremiah for answers, unsure she can trust him.
Halle wants the truth, but the longer truth is twisted in shadows, the harder it is to recognize in the light.

Can Halle move beyond the deceit, or will she be consumed by the darkness that stole her father from her?

...and what Bridgette says about Bridgette...(hint: keep reading for an excerpt)
Bridgette O'Hare is a writerly life form surviving on high doses of chocolate, excessive episodes of Supernatural, and copious amounts of snark.

Excerpt:
Matt had never been one to let a chance to provoke Jenna slip by. “I know what I’m getting you for Christmas,” he chided.

“Does it involve a trip to some tropical island and drinks with those tiny umbrellas in them?” Jenna quipped back.

“What makes you think I’d take you somewhere like that?” he retorted.

A sly smirk slinked up one corner of Jenna’s mouth. “What makes you think I was going to take you with me on my little island excursion? It’s my present.”

Matt shook his head. “A watch, Jenna. I’m getting you a watch. Not that you’d use it.”

He checked his mirrors and backed out of the driveway.

“Alright, children. Let’s play nice,” Halle interrupted before the back and forth really took off.

“That was nice,” Jenna mumbled.

“Yeah, about as nice as when you two ditched me at Levi’s Halloween party. Left me with a house full of masked marauders, and I don’t mean the interesting comic book kind.” Matt glared at Jenna in the rear-view mirror.

“Why are you looking at me like that? Halle bailed on you, too!”

“Hey now!” Halle piped in.

“She was hurt. She gets a pass. You could have found me, or called, or texted, or something.” His words came across with a little something Halle couldn’t help but be concerned about. For the past year, she had watched as Matt and Jenna bantered back and forth, always teetering on the edge of something more than friendship but never slipping over. Halle found herself glancing between the two, wondering if Jenna’s secret was why she had always kept Matt at arm’s length.

Jenna went silent for a moment. The countenance of her face saying more than words could. “I’m sorry, Matt. You’re right. I should have let you know. Forgive me?”

Matt’s eyes darted between the road and the rear view mirror several times before he blew out a heavy breath and his stare rested on the mirror for a long moment. “I forgave you the moment it happened. You know that,” he replied.

“Of course you did,” Jenna chimed. “You can’t stay mad at me. I won’t let you.” She stuck her tongue out at him.

Halle laughed at the exchange. “You two are something else.”

“Don’t know what you’re laughing at,” Matt remarked as he turned the Jeep into the school parking lot. “You’re friends with both of us. What does that say about you?”

“That I’m crazier than I thought,” Halle muttered. “But hey, at least y’all are entertaining.”

She adjusted her sunglasses and reached for her bag in the floorboard. “I’ll see you guys at lunch. I need to bolt. Have to try to get to Senior Mozingo’s class before homeroom to ask about some work I missed.”

“You sure you’re not just trying to avoid him?” Jenna asked as she nodded her head at the guy standing on the sidewalk straight ahead of the Jeep.

“Crap,” Halle mumbled.

“Want me to run him over?” Matt smiled. “I can say the gear slipped.”

Halle rolled her eyes, though her sunglasses hid the gesture. “No. I don’t want you to run him over. Geesh. But . . . you could run interference for me.”

“And you don’t think hitting him with a car would do that?” Matt grinned.

“Nevermind. I don’t want to deal with the police interrogation afterward. I’ll just do the best I can.” Halle made a face at Matt, slipped out of the Jeep, and eased toward the back of the car parked beside them.

I'm hoping you enjoy Bridgette's books! I know I'm one clicking on this new release!
Happy reading,
Tricia

Picture Happy Friday and a blessed Yule to you! I'm super excited to bring you a preview of Bridgette O'Hare's Book of Dreams series!  I met Bridgette a little over a year ago and I was instantly drawn to her warmth and spunk. She is a shining soul and I can't wait to dive into this series! The first ebook is free through 12/23, so if you like YA paranormal fantasy, find the links below! Here's what you can expect.

Lullaby
Halle Michaels is on the brink of insanity.

She’s haunted by dreams that find their way into her reality. Nightmares of death…of destruction. Visions that will uncover the truth – about her abilities, her family’s origins, and her part in a prophecy that could change the world.

And when a mysterious book shows up on her doorstep, those dreams may be all that can save her from an overwhelming evil. One that has its sights set on Halle.

She wanted normal, but normal is overrated. She was born to be so much more.

Silent Night
They say a good book can change your life. For Halle Michaels, it might just end it.

When an old, tattered book shows up on Halle’s doorstep containing undeciphered messages, it brings with it a surge of mysterious incidents, sinister voices, and a code only she understands. A code that could lead to the secrets her father left behind and enemies she never knew existed.

Now, forced to confront a past filled with mysteries and deceptions, Halle realizes the book not only holds the key to uncovering these secrets, but has the power to destroy everything.

Excerpt from Saving Infiniti by Rose Garcia

[image error] I highlighted the release of Saving Infiniti, a young adult fantasy romance novella, a few weeks back, and now have an excerpt for you...

Blurb:
Infiniti Clausman is making the most of senior year. Throwing parties, pulling pranks, and breaking all the rules, she’s determined to graduate with a bang! But there’s one thing on her senior year bucket list she hasn’t been able to cross off yet—falling in love. In fact, she’s never even been kissed.

Infiniti hopes to change this when she travels from Houston to Colorado for the holiday break. Instead, she finds her world turned upside down when she discovers all things supernatural exist, time travel is real, and her very life is at stake. Suddenly, that kiss is the least of her worries.

Joe Greg will never forget the injured girl he and Kase Kasun found on the side of the mountain. It was 2012, and he was only twelve, but the image of the wreckage and his interaction with the girl has never left him. When he sees the girl again in 2018, she looks exactly the same. He figures out that she’s time-traveled to his present, with a reaper on her heels and a mystery to unravel. Drawn to protect her, he’s hell-bent on standing by her side. Even if it means his death.

*Saving Infiniti is a Havenwoods Falls High Novella featuring characters from the critically acclaimed Final Life Series by Rose Garcia

Excerpt:
Her mind reeled at the pieces of her ordeal filtering back into her memory. Throbbing pain. Splattered blood. Shards of glass. The guy looking younger and transforming into a wolf. What the hell was happening?
“Who are you?” the guy whispered.
“I’m Infiniti. I’m from Houston. Who are you?”
“I’m Joe, and I’m from here. Havenwood Falls.”
“Havenwood Falls?”
“Yeah.” He leaned over the table. “The town close to where you crashed. You were transported to the medical center.” He moved in even closer. “You disappeared.”
She stared at him in disbelief. She pressed her back against the booth. It took her a minute to find her voice. “I what?”
“You vanished. We searched for you for days. Months even. With no leads, we had to give up.”
Her hands folded and unfolded on her lap. Her mind raced. “I crashed. I woke up, and I walked over here.”
“You woke up? As in, just now?”
“Yes.”
Now now?”
“Yes. Like ten minutes ago now.”
His brows stitched together. He rubbed his chin. “So what happened to the last six years?”
Six years?
She examined his face. He most definitely looked six years older, but her car crash had happened that day. So that would be impossible. But then she thought of all the sci-fi movies she’d seen, and all her supernatural paraphernalia at home—her Ouija board, the spiritual cards her neighbor Jan had given her. She was a believer in all things unexplained, but had something otherworldly really happened to her? As in, for real?
Her hands trembled. She shivered. “It’s 2018?”
“Yeah, it’s 2018.”
