An Excerpt from Confined with Mr. Darcy

With everything happening in the world, I debated about what to post today. I’d love to be able to say we’re all plugging along as usual, but I don’t think any of us feel that way right now. I’m praying by the time this posts tomorrow, things will have improved. In light of the uncertainty all of us are feeling, I decided to provide a bit of an escape with an excerpt from Confined with Mr. Darcy. I hope you enjoy!

Chapter 4

Elizabeth closed her laptop and stood. She was desperate to get out of...

Jane Austen Unmasked – Diana Birchall

I’ve been thinking about returning to a story I posted here, and  finally finishing it – there’s a novel concept for you! Some may remember it as “The Darcys and Lord Byron in Venice,” and I posted twelve episodes sporadically over a year and a half, with the first episode on December 30, 2017, and the last (so far) on June 18, 2019.  The story opens with the married Darcys and their small children traveling to Italy for a sojourn of a few months. They rent part of the palazzo where Lord Byron ...

Swashbuckling and Austen?

Swashbuckling and Austen?
by Jack Caldwell

Greetings, everyone. Jack Caldwell here.

What’s more romantic than a good swashbuckler, eh? Too bad Jane Austen never wrote one.

Those of you who have read the novels of Jane Austen are familiar with her themes and style. It is a mark of her genus that her works are more popular today than they were 200 years ago. Yet, modern-day film makers find something lacking in her stories. They add bits and pieces, thinking it will appeal to today’s audiences. So...

A Lie Universally Hidden- An Excerpt

Hello, dear readers! As the month of love is coming to a close, I have been reflecting on what makes a wonderful story; what draws us in and makes us want more. I think we all enjoy the point when our favorite characters arrive at their happily ever after, but I think there is actually something more desirable in the road to ‘getting there.’ There is something to be said for the build up of emotions; that point where our characters are struggling to suppress that attraction, whether they real...

Siblings & Jane Austen

Hello everyone,

The following was posted elsewhere, but I wanted to share it here too. I wrote it as a tie-in to my recent novella, Her Sisterly Love. Just this week, Her Sisterly Love was released on Kindle Unlimited. The audiobook version, narrated by the amazing Harry Frost, is also out, and you can buy the book in both electronic and soft cover formats.  (Link) 🙂 I hope you enjoy my musings on siblings, both Austen’s and how she depicted some of the siblings in her books. (It is by no means a...

Another magical excerpt!

I’ve been in the mid-book doldrums for months on my new magical Pride & Prejudice variation, but the good news is that I’ve figured out where I’m stuck, even if I haven’t quite figured out the way out yet. Still, that’s where story magic comes in!

Anyway, I’m behind in providing these excerpts, so here’s an extra-long one to make up for it. This one follows immediately after my last excerpt where Elizabeth discovered she could cast illusions, only to faint in Darcy’s arms. Now she’s regaining co...

Bay Leaves and Valentines

A touch of Valentine’s fun, Georgian style!

Feb 13, 1811

Elizabeth stood beside Charlotte, near the parlor wall, where all those who were not playing had been relegated. Candlelight filled the crowded parlor with warm flickering shadows dancing on the furniture that had been pushed to the sides of room. Chairs lay atop the settee; one card table had been turned atop another and pushed into the corner. Mama did not usually like her rooms tossed about so, but gave Lydia special leave for...

Betrothed ~ The Sweet HEA

So, ‘Love Is In The Air’ is this month’s theme, and Valentine’s Day is coming. Isn’t this a good time for sweet happily ever afters?

I often wonder how readers feel about the final chapters of P&P variations. Too long? Not long enough? How much time do you enjoy spending with our favourite characters once they had cleared their misunderstandings, vanquished all their foes, and are ready to start their life together?

One argument is ‘Hang on a minute, we’ve seen them miserable for so many chapter...

Love is in the Air–a Sneak Peek at a work in progress…

Good morning! Hope you all will enjoy this little nugget which is a part of a larger work I have going.  We begin in London where Darcy has been summoned to the Matlock town house by his cousins for an important announcement!

No one has edited this and I am probably the worst proofreader in the world so please forgive the clangers!

———–

Darcy went into his uncle’s house one blustery morning in February, and found Colonel Fitzwilliam standing over the billiards table with Sir Frederick Moore, th...

Musings with My Mikey

Happy Tuesday, dear readers! I hope the weather in your corner of the world is pleasant. If not, I hope you have a cup of tea and a good book or movie to keep you company. Because, after all there is nothing like staying home for real comfort, is there? And as they say, home is where your heart is.

Well, my heart has been taken for the last 16 years by three boys. As I’ve mentioned before, I was blessed with three sons, no daughters. At first, I was devastated, imagining that my children would n...
