The Turnspit Dragon
In which the author does a thing.
I’ve been doing a retrospective at my site, Random Bits of Fascination on backlist this month and realized I had 29 books to features, but there were 30 days in the month. Well, I could skip Thanksgiving as it’s a holiday and all. But that was too easy, so…
I give you…

A (Fairly) Comfortable Coze
Hello again! As a small pressie before the holidays, here’s something I prepared earlier
* * * * * * * * * * * * *
“Shall we have our brandy in the library, Mr Bennet?” Darcy asked and his father-in-law readily agreed, their voices ringing almost too loudly, once the boisterous contingent had left the table and followed Elizabeth out of the dining room.
It was only Frederick who took his time in folding his napkin, which could not fail to put a faint quirk of amusement in Darcy’s lips, despite ...

Happy Thanksgiving – from Hunsford?
Happy Thanksgiving to all of you in the USA! I hope you have many things in your life to be thankful for!
Here in the UK we don’t celebrate Thanksgiving, but we do have a Harvest Festival of Thanksgiving which dates back in different forms to the middle ages. Plays that represented the figure of Harvest with a scythe were typically performed as part of the festival, and later it came to be called Hoacky or hoky.
In early Victorian times, it was celebrated in churches on a Sunday in Autumn (ther...

Book News, an Excerpt, and a Giveaway by Jennifer Altman
Hi all! As some of you may have noticed, I’ve been taking a bit of a social media break to focus on my writing and other things, but in the spirit of Thanksgiving, and to celebrate my two book anniversaries (three years for my first, and six months for my second), I have just moved my second novel, Faults of Understanding, into Kindle Unlimited! I know many of you have been waiting patiently for this moment, and I hope this will give you a chance to enjoy the book during the upcoming holiday sea...

A Pinch of Salt Christmas Excerpt
Hello everyone!
I hope you are all having a good, healthy autumn. I have been especially busy, which has made it a bit of a challenge to find time to come up with interesting things to share with you. I dug into old stories I posted at A Happy Assembly for today’s offering. It requires a bit of explanation, because it is part of a much longer story titled A Pinch of Salt. It is a modern, P&P inspired story that is mashed up with Top Chef. I did my best to make it humorous, and honestly, I had a ...

It’s a Wonderful Life…Mr. Darcy?
We are coming up on the holiday season, which some would say is the most wonderful time of the year. I’ve often found that it’s not only a season of giving and receiving, but also introspection.
In Frank Capra’s classic “It’s a Wonderful Life,” after a financial misstep, the main character George Bailey doesn’t believe his life is worth living anymore; that those he loves would be better off without him.
I remember watching this for the first time, only a few years ago. My husband had turned it ...

Catherine and Henry Tilney’s “Comfortable Coze”
I know that “a comfortable coze” (this month’s theme here at the blog) comes from Mansfield Park and refers to a confab between Fanny Price and Mary Crawford. (Read more about that in Diana Birchall’s post.) But I admit that the phrase conjured up something a little different in my mind.
First, you should know that I write “clean” novels. In my case, at least, that means no serious hanky panky going on between anybody except married couples, and even that is all innuendo (nod, nod, wink, wink, a...

The Homecoming
Hi everyone! Happy Friday! I had hoped His Perfect Gift would be released by today, but unfortunately the review isn’t complete yet. I was trying to figure out what to do, and found this old quickie I wrote years ago, which I thought would be appropriate since Veterans’ Day was yesterday. It was written for a Playground piece so it’s un-beta’d.
The Homecoming
“Thank you for flying Atlantic Air.”
Frederick Wentworth took a deep breath and smiled. He was home…well, almost home. After six mon...
