Here even by day cliffs obstruct the sun; moonlight miles out mocks this abyss of fog.I walk big-bellied, lost in motherhood,
hunched in a shell of coat, a blindered hood. Alone a long time, I remember s...

I very much like this David Yezzi poem from his book Azores (Swallow Press, 2008).
Very Like a Whale
Having seen the rainstorm letting up, I step outside and light a cigarette--a guilty pleasure I allow myselffor now, till guilt (or, horribly, my health)
disallows it as still pleasurable.A span of windswept grey foregrounds some clouds, looming presences of various widths.I play the children's game Prince Hamlet played
and name the shapes parading through the air.One--it takes me by surprise, in...

I start back on the 31st, so I'm trying desperately to revise a batch of poems for Sept. 1st's big mail out. Plus syllabi. Plus lots of reading.

First and foremost, it was written and recorded on the piano, and the piano is decidedly NOT Harvey's instrument. And because it's not, she was limited by i...

Dear Friends, drop what you're doing and go watch I Am Love. Or if you can't drop what you're doing because a: you're too enthralled or b: the film isn't playing in your local theatre, then by all means rent it as soon as it hits Netflix. In fact, buy it and watch it over and over. Seeing such beauty renews one's faith. Truly. Vedendo questo film vi trasformerà.
