In all the news that's fit to use:1. Josh had his car broken into and radio stolen.2. I'm really proud (at least today) of something I wrote (so I had a nip of Jefferson bourbon to celebrate because, gosh darnit, there isn't enough self-satisfactory celebration in this world). 3. A student of mine is interested in combining film/video and poetry. I showed him the Levi's commercial w/Uncle Walt which got me thinking: why don't I do more of that kind of stuff?

Hooray for THIS poem! In fact, I think it does exactly what I wanted to do in my folly garden poem but much, much better. Beyond better. I acquiesce.

Josh and I saw A Serious Man the other night. We're SERIOUS Coen Bros. fans. In fact, I may ask Josh if we can sneak back next Monday (five bucks at the Drexel) so we can see it again (this time without the state-the-obvious couple stuffing their faces with popcorn behind us when o my god the silences are so tense and pregnant with meaning for god's sake!!).

My friends, A Serious Man is among the Coen Bros. finest. It's a disconcertingly personal film (disconcerting because "personal" isn't a ...

I've heard some good music recently. A grasshopper liked our warm front steps, but now he's probably gone. The self-portraits in public restrooms series has been reinstated. What were they building in one of my college's parking lots? Columbus has waterfalls. And I might be saved. Ah, autumn!

I'm not saying this to rub your noses in it, but that was, I think, the best show I might have ever seen. Witness:

Check me out on Linebreak today! It's a terrific mag. that posts one poem per week and another poet is recorded reading the poem to add to the overall poetic experience.
My obsession with Hart Crane continues, friends.

Jon Hamm is an actor. A real, honest-to-goodness, kick-ass, blow-yr-mind actor. Who knew?

In other revelatory news, this long poem is killing me. It's like juggling. The potato I have up in the air has started to sprout and the milk's started to curdle. Meanwhile I'm riding a unicycle straight into hell.

How do you all handle long poems? Or do you? Josh is right. I won't be able to publish the thing, so why am I doing it? I don't know. I do know that if I produce ten pages, I'll end up with fi...

I've had a great week. Good discussions in classes on Flannery O'Conner and Sofia Coppola. I got to talk about my poems and my process in a colleague's class with a very nice man, Jerry Roscoe, who has a book published by my press called The Unexamined Life. He writes sonnet-esque poems that have a depth of vision I really envy--whole worlds in small spaces. He said that in revision, he rewrites the poem or writes OVER the poem--almost like the warp to the woof, which adds, ultimately, to the...
