Who's IN with me? To stay in Montale's home would be a dream come true:
Haul your paper boats to the parched shore, and then to sleep, little commodore: may you never hearswarms of evil spirits putting in.
The owl flits in the walled orchard,a pall of smoke lies heavy on the roof. The moment that spoils months of labor is here:now the secret crack, now the ravaging gust.
The crack widens, unheard perhaps. The builder hears his sentence passed. Now only the sheltered boat is safe.Beach your fleet...

I just sent an email to Cole Swensen. Next I plan on writing an email to Robert Pinksy, and maybe even to some dead guys, like Lowell and Berryman. Just kidding.
I'm writing an entry on Swensen for this encyclopedia/critical survey series Intagliod so kindly made me aware of, and I'm so glad I chose to write about her. She intrigues me in a distant, cool-woman-in-a-leather-jacket kind of way, and how wonderful to find her books are, basically, poetic art history! How wonderful to find she...

I tend to read at least five things at once. Sure, reading a few poems here and there while still maintaining the narrative thread of, say, a novel or biography, is fine, but I somehow throw in some book of criticism or other, and maybe another biography (very rarely fiction. I read very little fiction). Right now I'm juggling Ayn Rand's bio Goddess of the Market and Isabella Stewart Gardner's bio The Art of Scandal, a few Cole Swensen books, and Poetry, Enclosure, and the Vernacular...

I'm so impressed by THIS woman. Oh to call oneself a historian and philosopher! Let this be a lesson to me in 2010. I can be anything I want to be, Jenike.

This is really terrific! It's apparently a Roy Harper cover, and filmed for BBC (oh how I love you, BBC). These two sang together on P. Gabriel's SO album (a track called "Don't Give Up") and may have been an item as well. He was particularly good at finding and nurturing young (female) singers (see: Sinead O'Conner ).

Well that wasn't TOO bad! I've got some nice new PJs and lots of wicked awesome gift certificates. My dad gave me a Kindle, which will probably anger a lot of my bookish friends (though I think I'm smart enough to know what's ok to buy electronically and what should NEVER be bought electronically). More on all this, and Cincinnati's underground rollerskating culture to come. For now, a review of my friend-in-verse's new book (which I will be buying in dead-tree form along with A. Fine's new o...

Josh got me the book I've been longing for, so yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Claus. May your holidays be as bright and sprightly as a Charley Harper cardinal , and not, of course, too, too sad .

This here blog's had a facelift, but despite its beauty, I plan on staying away from it for a while. The break's upon me, and besides the traveling (North Carolina on Friday, Ohio triangulated next week), I've got three shortish articles and one review to write. And I'm sure Intagliod would agree, it's time to regroup, rethink, rewrite.
I took down yesterday's irrationally angry post but I've continued to think about some things, things that may have legs, things having to do with the deep...
