It seems to me, and I wonder if it seems to you, that Gerard Manley Hopkins is getting a heck of a lot of shout-outs these days. This strikes me as a positive trend because it suggests a renewed interest in the sonics of praise and ecstasy.
Hopkins was one of the first poets I loved, along with Louis MacNeice, who I was just thinking about the other day. MacNeice's use of the refrain really influenced me when I wasn't looking (as did Catholicism when I was a preteen--which leads me back to...

Let's talk about nostalgia. Last night's Pavement concert...

Let's talk about nostalgia. Last night's Pavement concert was great, and sad, and frustrating, and stinky. Maybe not as sad for me, because I came to Pavement late (the early 'aughts, after the band had already disbanded) thanks to Josh. So my 90s were sadly absent what, to my mind, is/was SOOOOOO much better than Nirvana. "Smells Like Teen Spirit?" Gross. Give me "Gold Soundz" any day, or "Stereo," or "Range Life..."
I still think the 90s sucked. When a student says something about liking...

It seems as though someone liked my poems from Drunken Bo...

It seems as though someone liked my poems from Drunken Boat (dig the new Irish-heavy issue) so well, she made radio out of them. I missed the actual broadcast, but the episode will be archived this Sunday the 19th. Which is cool. Plus she's an Emersonian, and so am I, which is super, super cool.
