Poetry
Do you write poetry, do you like poetry. If you are in either or both camps, join the poetry unhinged group
What is Poetry. What it takes the author a book to say a Poet expresses in a Poem. You would think brevity is the soul of the poem till you consider the Iliad and the Odyssey. Others in the same rank is Dante's Divine Comedy and then there is the Mahabharata. In the English language Beowulf and Chaucer's Troilus and Criseyde are long poems.
In Poetry there are no rules. It does not even have to rhyme. It should be the outpouring from the depth of your soul or your intellect, Also, yes Poetry can be funny. It just reflects the various emotions you feel throughout the day, week and year. Share your poetry

A strand
A strand
is there a difference between
love and hate
a single strand a single thread
holds it together
love grows they say with time
so why do we love one more than the other
if we spend the equal amount of time
with one another
hate probably grows with events
one event more hateful than the other
probably when it was all blossoming
there was the feeling
which was fueled by both reason
and actual events
but as time goes by the events
the reasons and everything else
is left by the wayside and one holds on
to the single strand
a single strand a single thread
a connection to love or to hate
is there a difference between

You have one life
You have one life
And yet there are....
Things that you do
Things that you hanker for
Things that gives you pleasure
Even in the backdrop of doing "things"
you hear that percussion
in your soul's mind repeated, that
You have one life
And yet there are....
Things that you do
Things that you hanker for
Things that gives you pleasure
You continue with what you are doing
Shutting off that percussion in your soul's mind
And yet there are....
Things that you do
Things that you hanker for
Things that gives you pleasure
Even in the backdrop of doing "things"

Charlottesville
Charlottesville ...
When I think about the events
Which rips apart this nation today
A killing or three
Over a statue of a man long dead
I think about my dad
My dad taught me
We were all equal
There were colors
All around me
But they were the colors of the rainbow 🌈
They existed to make the world vibrant and Beautiful
I did not think
The colors around were there
To divide us to separate us
I was taught the colors were there to unite us
Be it the color of the skin
Or the color of the mind
A student of science would contend
It's melanin stupid let's leave it at that
But no..
When your existence is threatened
Whether true or perceived truth
You perhaps react violently
To a color in the rainbow 🌈

CHARLOTTESVILLE
I woke up this morning and read "Three dead in wake of clashes at white nationalist gathering in Virginia". Now like most Americans I have been thinking, this is not the America I want and certainly not the America I want to leave behind to my children. But...
Our country's history is not very pretty. There was the civil war and 100 years later the civil rights movement. There was two Americas and there is two Americas and I am not sure I will see a change in my lifetime.
So what are the two Americas. Is it the testosterone driven, aggressive male, driving jingoistic policies or the estrogen driven female - caring, nurturing advocating bring everyone along policies. I would much like to stay with this thought, but this is not it, however I would like you to dwell on it at the back of your mind.
Unfortunately the two Americas back then and even now is simply black and white, the degree, the shade may have changed a bit but that is the bottom-line. Even Lincoln, the so called savior of the slaves, had a checkered past as far as this subject is concerned however he did change his view to some extent (If you get a chance read The Fiery Trial: Abraham Lincoln and American Slavery by Eric Foner).
One side (I would like to think the right side) won the civil war but I am not sure if it was able to win the other side over, albeit some of the rhetoric of Robert E Lee (19 January 1807 – 12 October 1870) around whose statue much of the unrest in Charlottesville hinges on.
"I have fought against the people of the North because I believed they were seeking to wrest from the South its dearest rights. But I have never cherished toward them bitter or vindictive feelings, and have never seen the day when I did not pray for them."
So what is this dearest right of the south? To own cheap labor in the form of slaves. If you don't pay the people who work in your farms or do other chores around the house you deem fit, you will surely become rich and successful quickly.
The question today is deep down in your heart how white do you see yourself and how black do you think you have become and what behavior are you going to inculcate in the generation coming after you. Are you going to prevent a Charlottesville killing or support a Charlottesville killing...

Coming up - Tax Day
Once upon a time, long, long ago some politicians got together and wrote up the 16th Amendment to the constitution. The year was 1913 and saw the enactment of the income tax and the first form 1040. For centuries kings, rulers used some sort of taxation to pay for projects and bills, and who better to fund them than their subjects. Times haven't changed much....
Oh how we love tax season. First comes the business taxes for business owners in March and then the personal income tax in April . I am happy to report, I am not paying my taxes on April 15th, this year again. April 15th fell on a Saturday and considering how we hate working on weekends and holidays especially Easter and emancipation day, taxes are due April 18th.
So again, this year you can procrastinate, especially when you know, that the refund check is something, other people get. You always have to pay up.
This year I am again left wondered how is it that when someone wants my money they make me work for it, they make me spend hours filling forms. The main form 1040 and there are a few types of those, one of which says 1040 EaZy. Well if it is so EaZy why don't you (IRS) fill it and send me a check.
I am again looking at taxes as a product, with a slight difference. When you go to a Wal-Mart or Target you see a product, it has a warranty, it has a price, you pay that at the checkout counter. Why not taxes. Even for property taxes, your city tells you this is your bill . Electricity, water and other utilities send you a bill, no exception. The IRS sends you nothing. You have to fill forms and send them money and if you are lucky they may send you a refund.
My rallying cry is a flat price on my taxes for a warranty period of 5 years. Take $100 bucks and talk to me again in 2022. Also if I don't see roads built, libraries built or anything that the product promised, I am going to come for my refund.
What do you think?
