A new book

So I have written another book and like the last one I have strived to be different. For starters I would like to introduce the book not with prose but with these lines.

Rock’n Roll
Cuban Cigar
Abba Adina
Sharak Alon
Whistling tree
Can’t you see?
Happy People
Definitely

[repeat once]

Hum them to music that you can make up in your head as you go about your daily life. For those who just can't hum or whistle I will reveal what I think this would sound like shortly. Stay tuned & happy humming.

Goodbye 2015 Welcome 2016

With 2015 on its way out and 2016 in, it is time to reflect and resolve. If one looks at 2015, and the fact that the media shapes a lot of what we are looking at, it can pretty much be summed up in one word - Terrorism. Terrorism in the form of ISIS or domestic, homegrown type. However that obviously is not the full story. It really was a mixed bag like every other year. The NFL had a winner. The NBA had a winner as did many other sports. There were movies some good and some bad ones. Martian based on the book by Andy Weir came out this year and potato research took off in some academic circles. Don't we all like french fries! There were books some good and some bad. Go set a watchman by Harper Lee came out this year. We all remember her first book to kill a mocking bird and how it affected us.

For 2016 what can we resolve for? A better world starting with taking care of the environment we are in, making that safer and better. Being healthy. Being financially sufficient. And yes read more books and encourage friends, family, especially children around you to read too by giving them a book. Hopefully the more we read the more our minds will open up to other cultures and perspective and hopefully will lead to a world bereft of bigotry.

Wishing everyone a very happy and wonderful new year.

Editorial Review

From the Author

why this book

It's 3 am in the morning,3:12 to be exact and I am here thinking, you've guessed it..:-).. naked unshackled thoughts. I am thinking about why anything is pursued. It usually is because of a need, to fulfill a need and often a want.

I started writing this book sometime back and all along I have wanted it to be different and I was writing for the regular Joe and Jane...who at the end of a long frustrating day is asking...what am I doing..how is what is happening around me affecting me..why am I here..where am I going.

That is what I have tried to answer in this book. I did not start by writing humor or anything else for that matter but it turned out so or atleast that's what I think..:-). I dislike labeling but if I was to label this work it would be in the genre of humor/self help but again I am not preaching anything. Every person is unique and I would not want to change that but I do hope regular folks read this book and get a perspective in life.

I am often asked who is your target audience. This book is so different, are you sure this is a book at all..:-). My answer is it's possibly...40+ beer guzzling pot bellied balding middle aged men..:-)..who really have stopped caring..or it could be a teenager 18 or older who is just starting off in life and who can take in some advice (parents know how that goes..:-)..)..and also ladies who are chilled in life and can enjoy their drink and are not uptight..:-). Well you decide for yourself what this book is about. I am done, it's 3:35 am..:-).Happy Reading..enjoy the book.

From the Inside Flap

Preface

If you picked this book (& I am glad you did), I can assure you that it will not be what you are expecting.

If you picked this book thinking that, finally there is, a book that tells you how to motivate yourself for each day of the week sorry this is not it.

However, if you picked this book with an open mind, & are looking for some fun & perspective in life, you will not be disappointed.

The way to read this book is slowly, first thing in the morning. Read a few pages at a time & spend the day musing about what you read. You could pick a topic or start anywhere you like - order does not matter, but remember to always have a beer in the other hand when reading. That is the most important piece of advice as you thumb through the pages!

This book is dedicated to the hard working citizens of the free world.

Happy Reading!

How to read..

Thoughts from a naked unshackled mind by Anno Nomius

The way to read this book is slowly, first thing in the morning. Read a few pages at a time & spend the day musing about what you read. You could pick a topic or start anywhere you like - order does not matter.

There is a way to read every book. Some books you have to keep reading and finish in one sitting, others you can bookmark and read over a week while lounging on a beach chair etc. I hope you read this book as I have laid out. The idea is to think about the thoughts long after you have read it. Let me give you an example. Here is a line from the book..

A black cat crossing the road is considered bad luck in some cultures. What about the cat's culture?

Death penalty

Death penalty

Across civilizations for centuries the death sentence has been handed down for crimes large and small and sometimes even when no crime was committed. The saga continues to this day and the two opposing camps of people supporting the death penalty and those against it remain firmly entrenched for their own reasons in their views.

For the average Joe or Jane who has been personally affected , a loved one murdered, the verdict is clear on where they stand. A preacher or two may come and convince to the contrary but the reaction deep down is clear. However for a civilized society there needs to be due process. Enter the judicial system, judge, jury to weigh in, as prosecutors argue each side. At the end of such deliberations, justice gets served or so we think. But is justice really served, If we just talk about it,in detail, spanning several months and sometimes years? Lets not kid ourselves we all know that the party with the better lawyers prevails almost always. Anything to the contrary is an aberration.

The death sentence however is unique. A human being is being condemned to die versus the alternative which is life imprisonment. This better be right. Justice better be served. There is no scope for wrong. There has been 100s of cases where people have got the death sentence when no crime was committed. Also crime and its penalty is a function of time. Being black or gay could get you hanged by order of the court if you did something 60 years ago. Stealing bread could get you killed 200 years ago by the order of the court. So my suggestion is while the justice systems struggles to get it right pick the less risky option of life imprisonment in all cases. What does that mean for individual justice. Well there is a world outside the court or if you prefer move on.

Now, what about mental crimes? Are you guilty of any? What is the appropriate punishment for that?

The Greek crisis

I have been following all the noise around around the Greece debt crisis, one of the four PIGS out there. I am especially interested in a solution because my mentor... Socrates is from this country and I have a debt I owe him as does the entire world, to him and also the Greeks (as a side note listen to what he has to say about my book on my blog).

Socrates has something to say

I have been to Greece and love the people. Helpful, friendly, full of life and lover of discussions. When you walk in Athens, you forget where you are, past or present. When you talk to people on the street you find even the village idiot very knowledgeable and guess what even in the remotest of islands like Sifnos, they are multilingual and most can speak English. Also some of the artifacts artisans sell are interesting, using science and very basic principles. I bought a whistle, which normally is a whistle, fill it with water and it’s a sound of a bird. They are also fiercely opinionated people and I think it's better than following a leader blindly. Go to a restaurant and ask what is good and they may feed it to you. You asked for their opinion, you better eat it too.

Austerity is not going to solve their problem but here is a solution. For what the Greeks have given us (I don't think any country in the world would be where they are if they were not influenced by the Greeks) let us repay our debt and visit the country in hordes buy little interesting souvenirs for folks back home so they in turn are encouraged to go visit and help the economy of this wonderful country. In the short run, this is what the world can do. In addition, if you have more to give go do what the Chinese have been doing for some time now buy investment property there on some of the beautiful islands. That will certainly help them too.

Where are the moose?

Book Excerpt

Have you ever seen a moose hit a car or the other way around? Travelled to Maine & NH to see if things like that actually happen, with not much luck. Why the tempting road signs then?

Author's Insight

So I took out the car and started driving north in search of the Moose. I have done this before many times but this trip was going to be different. This was the trip to find the beast corner it and take pictures. This was a trip that would leave no state untouched be it in the US or Canada to catch this elusive creature.

The driving was long and arduous but very picturesque..Drove to Portland, Maine and saw the Casco Bay and some road signs demanding attention to Moose on the road.I followed the trail and ended up in Hopewell rocks in New Brunswick. Beautiful tidal ebb and flow but no Moose. I found myself breaking into the popular song where have all the moose gone. Moose, Cowboys both elusive creatures in the north. Should I have looked for Moose in Texas?

I drove all through Nova Scotia. Halifax, Cape Breton, even went to PEI. There was a huge confederation bridge (wonder why we do not have one between Long Island, NY and Connecticut) but no Moose. Saw some foxes and beautiful farmland and breathtaking coastlines but no Moose. Miles and miles of potential moose sightings but no Moose. At this point, disappointed, I turned my car and drove back. The whole trip was 3000 miles but not a Moose to show for the efforts.

I have a request for the moose authorities who put up the road signs..put a sign..Moose is here. Tie a Moose or two to a tree with a long rope next to the highway where people like me can appreciate them and we do not put wasted trips to the back of beyond.

Ps - If any of you have a real moose photo can you share; else, I will put this animal in the extinct list like the Trex. In addition, please no zoo moose only the real deal. Also, moose ice cream and chocolate mousse does not count.

Career Advice

Book Excerpt

Life is a bitch! Accept it. You are unlucky & will not hit the jackpot or make it to the top of the corporate ladder. Stop buying that lottery ticket & dreaming. Instead, invest that time & money in a business of your own, or in improving your health.

Author Insight

Career Advice

More often than not you find people buying the lottery ticket at the convenience store, an investment they claim. Someone I know keeps buying it every Friday and has been doing it for the last 30 years. Also the fact of the matter is some states want you to buy the lottery ticket as it funds the schools and other public undertaking. The chances of winning the lottery jackpot is minimal to none yet there are people spending money on it hoping that there will be a different outcome. Stop dreaming, start working on something tangible.
