I had my driver take me back to the hotel. I went straight to the restaurant inside the lobby and ordered spaghetti with meatballs.
“Where’s your boyfriend?” Sonny asked as he sat down next to me.
“Miami.”
“Not that boyfriend,” Benny Micheletti said as he sat on the other side of me.
“Billy is at a meeting, what do you two want?” I asked, in a snarky tone. I was exhausted from the tension on the set and all I wanted to do was wait for my meal in silence.
“We need to speak to Billy and thought you would know where he is,” Sonny said.
“Like you talked to him the night before the hit on Trassari?”
Both men stared at me without saying a word.
“Leave him out of shit like that,” I demanded.
“Mind your own business,” Sonny threatened.
The waitress came over with my meal. I ignored Sonny’s threat and dove into my meal.
“Is there anything else I can help you guys with?” I asked. “If not, I’d like to eat in peace.”
“Hard day on set?” Benny asked as he went to take a meatball off my plate of spaghetti.
I smacked him hard on the hand with my fork.
“Ow,” he yelled.
“All those meatballs are spoken for, get your own, and yes every day is a hard day on set with Antonio Suarez.”
“Need us to take care of anything?” Sonny asked, becoming serious.
“No, but thank you for the offer.” I sarcastically answered.
“Well isn’t this rich.” Elena materialized at the table. “I came to drag you back to the set and here you are with your friends.” She practically spit out the word friends.
“Who is this stunning vision of beauty?” Sonny stood up from the table, taking Elena’s hand in his and kissing it.
I gagged on a mouthful of food.
“I’m the studio head in charge of the film Elizabeth is supposed to be working on right now.” She blushed as he kissed her hand again.
“Well, Bella, you are quite the sight,” Sonny continued to fawn. “But I’ve never heard of a studio head on set.”
“Unfortunately, the director is having a hell of a time with his lead actress.” She glared at me. “So, I have to stick around and babysit.”
“Do you mean Elizabeth?” Sonny asked, as if he was truly concerned.
“Yes, Elizabeth and the director, Antonio, don’t get along.” Elena answered, in a softer tone, no doubt falling for Sonny’s charm.
“Perhaps, Bella, then you need a new director because Elizabeth here is the best in the business.”
Elena ripped her hand out of his grip as I gave her a smug smile with a mouthful of food.
“Yeah, Elena, why don’t we get a new director?” I asked sarcastically.
“My brother Benny and I could help with that if you want?” Sonny propositioned Elena.
She blanched at his words.
“Sonny,” I blurted out. “Seriously?” I couldn’t believe he had offered his services.
“The offer is on the table. Let’s go, Benny.”
“Sorry about that, they’re idiots,” I apologized to Elena after the two men had left.
“Yet you were having lunch with that sort of people. I should’ve known.”
I glared at her in response.
“I expect you back on the set in thirty minutes,” she demanded as she haughtily turned and walked out of the restaurant.

DEMON KING'S DESIRE by J.L. Sheppard
DEMON KING'S DESIRE
Elemental Sisters Series#1
by J.L. Sheppard
Genre: Paranormal Fantasy Romance
Jenna Jenson’s spent her life wondering why she’s different. The only people who may help her find out have been lost to her since their mother’s death. When she’s attacked by a man whose supernatural abilities supersede her own, she’s rescued by the devastatingly handsome demon king, Lucas Thaler. While she’s inexplicably drawn to him, powers she never knew she possessed are unleashed, leading her to discover she’s part of a new breed of immortals who can either save or destroy life.
After a war in his demon plane and home, Lucas has dedicated his life to battling Malum Inmortalis, rogue immortals whose sole purpose is to rule immortals and mortals alike. As fate would have it, the hunt for these vile creatures leads him to her. Instantly, he recognizes her. She’s the woman he’s been waiting for, for centuries, the woman he’s been dreaming of for centuries—his fated mate.

Lucas climbed the series of steps and knocked on his bedroom door.
“Come in.”
He opened the door. His gaze landed on her, sitting on the bed, a towel wrapped around her. Clenching his jaw, he turned and dropped the bag he held in his grip on the floor. Then he closed his eyes hoping to wipe away the image of her in a towel. No use, it’d been seared in his mind since the night before.
“I’m sorry. I thought I heard you say come in.”
“I did.”
Fisting his hands, he forced his voice to remain calm. “You’re in a towel.”
“What is it with you guys and towels? It’s not like I’m naked.”
“No, you aren’t, but Jenna, do you realize the effect you have on men?”
For a moment, he heard nothing, not even her breaths. Then she stood and neared. “Excuse me.”
Damn it. Maybe he shouldn’t have said it. Granted, if she didn’t know, she should. Maybe then, she would mind men seeing her in a towel. He hated the thought of anyone looking at her, at what was his. It was irrational, he knew, but he couldn’t help how he felt.
“Lucas, turn around.”
He did as told but kept his stare level, above her head.
“Now look at me.”
He angled his head, stared into her eyes, and admired the dark-brown hue. Then because he couldn’t help himself, he lifted his hand and trailed it along the side of her face. He’d never felt anything so soft, silky. He shouldn’t have expected anything less. She was all beauty, the way she looked, walked, talked, even moved, and she deserved better than him, a demon, a monster.
“You’re so beautiful, Jenna. Any man would give his life to touch you once, just like this.”
Her breaths coming out in small gasps, she whispered, “I feel it. I hadn’t noticed it before, but I feel it now.”
Cupping her cheeks, he leaned into her so her mouth was millimeters from his. “What do you feel?” He asked even knowing she felt what he did because around her, it was hard to keep his emotions in check.
“What you’re feeling… I think it’s awe.”
He couldn’t help himself then either. Gaze scanning her face, he leaned down and claimed her lips. When he parted his mouth, she parted hers. Then he slid his tongue inside, and she did the same, kissing him as softly as desperately.
Without losing hold of her mouth, he hooked an arm around her waist, tugged her toward him, and lifted her off her feet. Instantly, she wrapped her legs around him inching her towel higher. Her core’s warmth on his stomach, he groaned.
Take her. Claim her. Mark her. His demon, his instincts demanding what belonged to him. He fought them, fought to keep control.
He hadn’t told her she belonged to him, hadn’t told her what it meant, so he didn’t have a choice.
Using all the willpower he had, he pressed his forehead against hers, tore his mouth away, set her on her feet, and strode away.

LOVE TORN by Stacy Eaton
LOVE TORN
Book 2 of The Twisted Love S eries
Written by USA Today Bestselling Author Stacy Eaton
Co-Authored Series with Bestselling Author Amy Manemann
Genre: Romantic Suspense (Police Procedural)
Detective Kali Mann lives by her nickname: The Mann-Eater. She’s a true love them and leave them with no attachments—ever. She’s hard-core, to the point, intense and she doesn’t always play nice with others. When her partner, Keith Harvard, finally gets her to take notice of him, the case they are working goes awry, and suddenly Kali is having emotions she’s not sure she wants. A major part of her past will come back to haunt her and just as she beings to open herself up, her life will be torn apart.
Love Torn is the second book in the Twisted Love Series. The first book, Love Lorn, was written by Amy Manemann. If you haven't read it, nows the time to so that you have the backstory on Detective Evie Harper when they two characters are partnered together in Love Inked.

I smiled into Westing’s blue eyes. There was no doubt I cared about the handsome guy, but we were just friends—friends with benefits when we were in a lull between other relationships. Well, he did relationships. I just had sex. I wasn’t interested in happily-ever-after. I’d seen what that fairy tale did to people, and it wasn’t a Disney song and dance with fireworks bursting over their heads as their lips first touched.
Love was brutal—useless. It clawed out your heart and voided your soul. It burrowed deep into your psyche and turned you into someone you weren’t; it forced you to do things you never would have done under normal circumstances. It tore you apart, fiber by fiber, until you were nothing but a shell of yourself.
Besides, the divorce rate between cops was off the charts, right up there with suicide rates for our profession. Who needed that shit?
If I wanted to get off—and I did often—I had a list of guys I could reach out and touch. The contacts on my phone were packed with digits to dial for a good time, but I never got serious with any of them. In fact, Josh was the only guy with whom I’d ever had seconds—and thirds—and more. Maybe it was because we never discussed it. We knew what the other one liked; we jumped in, got off, and then kissed the other goodbye as we walked away with a smile and a wave.
That was the kind of relationship that I liked: love them and leave them and not feel guilty about it—no heartstrings, no hopes.
Westing winked at me. “Alright, Mann, it’s your round.”
“Got it.” I went to scoot off my stool and put my hand down to the side to steady myself. Instead of landing on the side of my seat as I’d anticipated, my palm landed on Harvard’s thick, slack-clad thigh which rested against my stool. Instantly, the muscle under my hand bunched, and I found myself taking my time climbing out of my seat. As I got to my feet, my hand leisurely slid over the slick material of his slacks.
I peered his way before I turned for the bar and his heavy, dark lashes blinked slowly over his eyes, a knowing smirk lifting the corners of his full lips. Yeah, Keith Harvard and I were partners, and for the last six months, we’d kept it on the straight and narrow. Recently, things had changed, though. I was starting to seriously wonder how much longer we’d be able to keep it strictly professional. I was torn on this, as I really enjoyed working with him and dreaded the day I’d have to put in for a partner transfer.
Two weeks ago, Keith and I had slipped around the side of a row home on a warrant execution, heading toward the small backyard. We had committed to our forward direction and were about three feet from the corner we’d just come around when we had come under fire. Keith had bum-rushed me behind a small stone wall that normally housed trash cans. The two of us had just enough space to safely hide on our knees as long as I hugged the stone up close and personal, and he did the same to me. I tried not to think about how filthy the area was as my skin made contact with it.
Maybe it was the adrenaline that had us jonesing for action, or possibly it had just been a while since Keith had gotten off. Either way, as he kneeled behind me, our bodies were crushed together, my chest flattened against the stone, my cheek pressing against the cool, foul-smelling smooth surface as his hot breath rushed along the side of my face. His muscular chest was compressed against my back hard enough that I knew no light could be seen between our bodies. I could feel his heart beating fast and strong against my left shoulder blade. One of his legs nestled between mine, his thick thigh wedged snugly against my ass, pushing my hips roughly against the stone. After a moment, I realized that the other hard thing against my ass wasn’t a bone but a boner. Well—damn.

MISSING AND PRESUMED DEAD by Cherime MacFarlane
MISSING AND PRESUMED DEAD
A Chandler County novel
by Cherime MacFarlane
Genre: Contemporary Sweet Romance
Grant remembered waking in a hospital bed with Crystal's hand on his forehead. And no matter how hard he begged, the girl said she must leave. She needed to get away from her father and couldn't stay with his family due to the generations-long feud. Crystal joined the Army. So did he. Then he came home, ran for sheriff and won.
The first thing he did when in office was open the file labeled Missing and Presumed Dead. No one had seen or heard from the mother of the Dane children in years. Did her husband kill her as Royce Dane said? If not, how did she disappear without a trace? But things take an odd twist when he discovers his mother's involvement.
Crystal likes everything about the man Grant is. But she isn't cut out for mixing in the upper echelon of Chandler County society. Her brother needs to know what happened to their mother, Crystal isn't so sure she cares. If her mother walked away from her children, Crystal doesn't need her now.

Crystal let the other passengers leave ahead of her. She needed a little time to psych herself up into getting off the plane. She wanted to see Gentry and meet the man who trundled her off to Alaska without a by-your-leave. But she didn't think Gentry would appreciate it if she busted his nose for him at first sight.
The line cleared out and only the crew remained. Time to get it over with. The whole thing bothered her. Without the structure of the Army to keep her on the straight and narrow, Crystal wondered how she would make it in the civvy world.
She pulled the O.D. green duffel out of the bin and followed the last of the passengers. The pilot said the weather was clear and a comfortable 43 degrees. A small snort followed that thought.
Comfortable for who? Dudes wrapped in two layers of down parkas? What did the man consider uncomfortable? No! Scratch that. A minus something probably, maybe in the low thirties.
With a sigh, she entered the long covered walkway leading to the interior of the terminal. She got a good look at the whole thing before they landed. The entire complex, runways and all would fit in the back corner of Atlanta's Hartsfield–Jackson airport without any fuss.
She followed the signs for the baggage claim area. Not that she had any baggage. Gentry said once she got past security, they would find her.
As soon as she got Gentry to herself, it would be time to spill the beans. Well, perhaps not all of it. The kid didn't need to know she set fire to the barn in a fit of rage. That would stay her secret.
Without the anonymity of her uniform, Crystal felt naked. Why in the hell did she let Royce and Uncle Thad talk her out of re-upping? She hadn't been drunk and just didn't get it.
Liar! Her mind screamed. She knew why. The phone call with Grant played all over again in her head. It was the part about her having a tight ass. She caught the warmth in his tone and figured he had to be smiling when he made the comment.
It was amazing how all airports had the same general layout. Ahead of her a large bank of windows stood on the other side of steps and escalators. Lots of people stood to the side as they waited for passengers to leave the secured area.
"Crystal! Hun!" That was all the warning she got before her baby sister slammed into her with arms wide.
The duffel hit the floor and Crystal wrapped both arms around the kid. With his hands stuffed in the pocket of his jeans, a guy with dark hair and equally dark eyes watched Gentry hug her.
Russ. That was the husband's name. The dude could play poker with the best of them. Crystal couldn't tell anything from a quick glance at his expression.
But her sister felt different. She must have put on about ten or fifteen pounds. Was she pregnant? Crystal sure hoped the hell not. Gentry was just a baby yet. She needed time to figure out who she was since getting out from under Augie's thumb.
Gentry turned to the guy with a smile on her face. "Russ, come and meet my sister."
When he walked forward and held out a hand, Crystal thought she caught sight of a wary expression in his dark eyes. Then he closed up tighter than hell.
That's okay, Alaska. I'm not sure I like your ass either. But for Gentry's sake, she planned to keep it all screwed in tight. The girl looked happy enough. If Gentry loved the little shit and didn't want to leave, so be it.
There would be other visits. If things didn't work out, they would all have a home at the Reynolds place. And that was the other reason she let them talk her out of enlisting again. Sheila. If Royce didn't get some kind of closure on the thing with their mother, the kid might lose what marbles he had left.
For now, she had a week to assess how Gentry was making out up here. The other two guys in Chandler County would want a full report on her findings. But it wouldn't do to alienate the husband right off.
Crystal shook his hand. She made the pressure just firm enough, but not like a wuss. She would treat him like a fresh out of school junior officer. Crystal could do that in her sleep.
She settled in the seat behind Russ. Gentry crawled into the extended cab with her. They had a few miles to go before they reached Homer. Then would come a boat ride to Seldovia. Crystal shook her head. It was a damn good thing she slept on the plane.
Gentry grabbed her hand and squeezed. "I'm so glad to see you. But why did you leave the service?"
With a grin, Crystal chucked her under the chin. "Royce, Uncle Thad and I are planning to make the old man and Johnny's life hell. And it's been a long time coming."
I came to Alaska kicking and screaming in 1976, and I never want to leave. I cut firewood on shares for money to get through the winter. I swore I would not live above the Alaska Range because it was too cold there and wound up in the Copper River Basin where it got just a cold as Fairbanks.
My second husband, a Scot from Glasgow, was the love of my life. When I write Scots dialect, I experienced hearing it from my in-laws. Each time my husband got on the phone to Scotland after five seconds, I could hardly understand a word. I was my second husband's chief mechanic's helper and roadie.
I live in a cabin which is slowly being surrounded by the city and wish I were farther out. My cat and Husky-Collie mix dog are happy in our little slice of heaven called Alaska. In the silence of winter dreams of people and places provide a rich pool of ideas to explore.
As a reporter for the Copper Valley Views, Cherime MacFarlane received a letter of commendation from the Copper River Native Association for fair and balanced reporting.

Chapter 1
“Did you hear your sister-in-law’s back in town?”
Clay Foster’s receptionist watched for his reaction from her seat across the front counter of his veterinarian clinic.
This was his dead wife’s sister’s first trip home in two years. “She must have blown in for a quick visit.”
“Pfft, so much for making it big,” Sybil commented with a glance at her computer screen.
“Out with it, Sybil. You look too delighted for this to be anything but juicy gossip.” Mercy was a Hollywood success story. Everyone knew it.
Sybil crossed her arms and leaned forward. “She came home with boxes. Lots of boxes.” Sybil’s husband, Bud, worked at the bus depot and shared all the comings and goings of Welcome’s population.
Clay leaned in to glean every nuance of meaning from Sybil’s face. “Out with it,” he repeated.
She licked her lips as if each morsel of gossip was filet mignon. “When Bud asked if he could call her a cab, she said no, she couldn’t afford it.” She hefted a disbelieving sigh and muttered, “Of all the nonsense. So”—she stretched out the word because Sybil loved telling a good story—“Bud called Nate, who showed up half an hour later. Nate didn’t say a word, which, of course, is just like him, and tossed all the boxes into his pickup. Mercy didn’t explain a thing, just looked miserable, Bud said.”
He nodded, at a loss. It still came as a surprise that he was related, if only by marriage, to Mercy Talbot. Welcome High’s golden girl: the blond, beautiful, leggy, and untouchable Mercy Talbot. The Talbot daughter who’d made a real success of her life, unlike the one who’d ruined her life by marrying him, the town hell raiser.
“That Mercy is a real glamour girl. Dilly’s gonna love her. All that prettiness and sunshine wrapped up in one girl.” Sybil sighed as if just knowing Mercy Talbot had somehow blessed her.
At the mention of his daughter, Dilly, Clay frowned. “Mercy won’t be here long,” he said. “Dilly won’t get attached.” Women like Mercy always had an exit strategy and somewhere more important to be.
Mercy Talbot had been as angelically perfect as his wife, Janna, had been hell-bent on personal destruction. Two sisters: impossibly different, forever at odds. He used to wonder if Janna’s darkness was in counterpoint to Mercy’s bright flare. But none of that mattered anymore.
It was Dilly who mattered.
“What child wouldn’t get attached to a beautiful actress?”
A pulse pounded in his temple. He dreaded seeing Dilly’s eyes light up when Mercy played the caring auntie. But she’d barely held Dilly as a baby. He doubted she’d show any interest now.
“I have nothing to worry about,” he told Sybil.
“Still, makes you wonder why she’s back in town.”

THE EMERGENT THREAT by J.F Cain
THE EMERGENT THREAT
War Eternal, Book II
by J.F Cain
Alex risked his soul to reunite with Aranes, the angel he’s in love with, forcing her to make the ultimate sacrifice to save him. Having lost her supernatural powers, Guardians and Exorcists fight tooth and nail to protect her, but they cannot keep the dark forces that are after her away for long.
Aranes’ relationship with Alex also puts him in the crosshairs of Lucifer, who wants the angel for himself and plans to destroy his rival, even if he doesn’t believe that the man is the incarnation of the high-ranking Celestial, Abaddon.
Alex must push himself beyond his limits and use all his wits to thwart Lucifer’s plans. He may be just an ordinary man, but he won't give up his partner without a fight. He’s willing to pay any price, any price except for losing her.

Alex struggled to find some fragments of self-control inside himself that would help him stop kissing her. Pulling back, he lifted his cup and took a sip of coffee in an effort to lessen the sexual tension. He then put a slice of bread on his plate, scooped a knob of butter with his knife and started to spread it on the slice with jerky motions. Right now it was better if he kept his hands busy, otherwise he’d lay them on her again, and this time there would be no power strong enough to rip them off of her.
“I hope the changes you were talking about will be pleasant ones,” he said in a relatively calm voice, resuming the discussion. He spread some honey on his slice and started to chew, feigning indifference.
“In the end, yes,” Aranes replied, preparing him for what she expected would happen.
“What do you mean, exactly?” Alex asked warily.
“You know that everything has a price. You didn’t get where you are now without making any sacrifices,” she reminded him.
Alex practically flung the slice of bread onto his plate and turned to look at her. An ominous shadow had darkened his gaze.
“I’m prepared to do anything. The only sacrifice I won’t make is to lose you again,” he stated categorically.
Aranes rested her hand on his naked biceps.
“I will always be with you,” she assured him, her expression showing that she intended to keep her word.
Her steady gaze and the determination in her voice calmed Alex somewhat.
“Are you sure?” he asked more gently. “Because if that means that you’ll be with me in the way you were before, then you haven’t understood what I mean.” The thought of being without her again wounded him deeply. Not even he knew what he would do if that happened.
“I don’t know what will happen in the future,” Aranes replied. “What I can promise you is that I’ll do everything in my power so that we don’t ever part.”
Troubled, Alex turned to gaze at the ocean stretching out in front of the mansion. He believed that the Power that had allowed her to leave would someday claim her again. You didn’t need to be especially clever to realize that there was an important reason behind such a critical decision. And it definitely didn’t concern his soul. In theory, countless souls were lost every day. What was so special about his that It would send the most valuable Angel to save him from Lucifer’s grasp?
Aranes didn’t need to hear his thoughts, his expression said it all.
“Worry and negativity won’t help,” she said, her tender gaze caressing his darkened expression. “Remember that nothing is impossible for those who truly love. No matter what it is they love.”
“There’s no doubt about that,” Alex agreed, knowing that there was nothing he wouldn’t do to keep her by his side.
“Then why are you afraid?” she asked.
His sense of pride rebelled.
“The only thing I’m afraid of is losing you. Absolutely nothing else,” he declared, his gaze filled with intensity.
“It is the same for me,” Aranes replied calmly.
Her statement was a welcome surprise to Alex. Her loving him was different than her also having the same fear of losing him. If she didn’t want it, then no power would be able to take her from him. No one would separate them. One possibility suddenly popped into his mind. That the Angel he loved had forced the Source to let her leave, which is why It had taken away her powers. It had likely resented Aranes’ behavior and the wounds on her back were the biggest proof of it. This explained things better, and the sacrifice that the celestial being gazing at him with love had made now increased in value.

✯✯✯✯✯The writing and the metaphysical considerations, as well as the biblical tone of this book, kept me reading and enthralled. The concepts of good and evil, and the balance that must be maintained between them, is portrayed with an expert touch. The way the universe is put together is very well thought out, and the plot and subplots are written with the deft pen of a master. J.F. Cain should be very proud of this novel and I hope the series goes on for a long time. Ray Simmons – Readers’ Favorite
✯✯✯✯✯Just as in the first book, Cain thoroughly imbues her well-defined characters with style and immense believability. From epic Biblical battle scenes to steamy, yet restrained, sexual interludes, this book once again measures up mightily to expectations, giving readers still more of everything a fan of this genre might expect -- and then some.
Five-plus stars to this sensational sequel. While many long-awaited sequels fall short of expectations, The Emergent Threat proves to be more than equal to the task. It's a triumph in storytelling that should move author J.F. Cain to the forefront of her genre. Publishers Daily Reviews
