THE EMERGENT THREAT by J.F Cain

THE EMERGENT THREAT

War Eternal, Book II

by J.F Cain

Genre: Romantic Fantasy Adventure

Alex risked his soul to reunite with Aranes, the angel he’s in love with, forcing her to make the ultimate sacrifice to save him. Having lost her supernatural powers, Guardians and Exorcists fight tooth and nail to protect her, but they cannot keep the dark forces that are after her away for long.

Aranes’ relationship with Alex also puts him in the crosshairs of Lucifer, who wants the angel for himself and plans to destroy his rival, even if he doesn’t believe that the man is the incarnation of the high-ranking Celestial, Abaddon.

Alex must push himself beyond his limits and use all his wits to thwart Lucifer’s plans. He may be just an ordinary man, but he won't give up his partner without a fight. He’s willing to pay any price, any price except for losing her.

Alex walked out onto the balcony and paused for a moment to enjoy the sight of his exceptional beloved calmly, and rather pensively, waiting for him. He still could not believe that she was here, in his home, with him.

“OK, I’ve arranged everything,” he said happily as he came back to her. He sat down, drank the remaining coffee in his cup and refilled it. He then looked at Aranes’ cup, which was empty. “Would you like me to pour you some?” he asked, annoyed with himself for not noticing it. “From what I remember, you like it.”

“You got the wrong message through no fault of yours. That morning in the cabin I drank coffee to look normal. There’s no longer any reason for me to do it; I am normal now.”

Alex quirked an eyebrow and looked at her, about to burst into laughter.

“Anyway, as normal as an incarnated Angel can be,” Aranes added.

Alex reached out with his left hand, grabbed her chair’s armrest and pulled it towards him. He then wrapped his arms around her waist and came as close to her as the armrests between them would allow.

“My love, I assure you that your anatomy is somewhat above and beyond normal. I made a thorough check last night.”

His innuendo surprised Aranes and it showed on her face.

Alex saw that change in her expression and was abruptly serious.

“What’s wrong, my angel? Did I say something that offended you?” he asked worriedly.

“No, I’m just not used to people speaking to me this way… all this is more or less new to me.”

Alex’s heart pounded.

“Is there something you regret?”

“My position doesn’t allow me to make frivolous decisions,” Aranes replied reassuringly, sensing his worry. “In every situation I do what I think is right or necessary.”

“Is it right for an Angel to love a mortal?” he asked, his expression calm, but the anxiety in his voice betrayed his inner turmoil.

“I love all beings,” Aranes answered, her kind, warm eyes lighting up with beautiful emotions. “I just love you differently, and for that to happen there must be a serious reason.”

Alex’s anxiety had reached its peak.

“And what is the reason?”

“I can’t say anything with certainty right now,” was Aranes’ response. She could, but she didn’t want to frighten him. It would be better for him if the revelations came in stages, if he was lucky. “What I am sure about is that our love will bring many changes, both in the physical and in the ethereal planes.”

The first part of her answer disappointed Alex. But from the little he grasped in the second part, he held on to the words “our love”, which he liked a lot.

“So you don’t regret anything,” he said, searching her eyes for confirmation.

Aranes saw the vein pulsing rapidly at the base of his neck and wanted to save him from the anxiety tormenting him once and for all.

“I love you,” she stated, looking him in the eye with an expression that left no room for doubt.

Alex felt all the wonderful feelings that such a statement brings out in a man who is madly in love. He slipped his hand behind her neck, brought her face close to his and gave her a long, deep kiss, filling her mouth with passionate love. Like a lit match falling on flammable material that instantly catches fire, his hunger blazed. He wanted her like mad, but he held himself in check. He was scared he would frighten her with his unflagging desire to make love to her. She wasn’t an ordinary woman. She was something different, something superior. He had to treat her accordingly, and limiting his heated demonstrations of his feelings would be a good start.

Angels' Whispers

Alex Meyers, a dynamic, global entrepreneur, has an advantage that no other human has ever had: he is protected by Aranes, the Superior of the Angels. While he is skiing, he dies in an avalanche, but his all-powerful protector breaks one of the ethereal world’s most important Rules and brings him back to life. Alex falls head over heels in love with the beautiful Angel, who appears to him in human form. But she disappears just as suddenly as she had appeared.

While he searches for Aranes, Alex discovers her true identity and that he actually might be the high-ranking Celestial Abaddon, who is mentioned in the Revelations prophecy as the one who will defeat Lucifer.

The man who fate has thrust among the world’s superpowers is now living a nightmare. He wants to evade Lucifer’s pursuit, find out who he truly is and once again see the only being he has ever loved. And the only way to do it is to make the ultimate sacrifice.

Angels' Whispers is the beginning of an epic tale set in modern times. The eternal war between Light and Darkness is at a critical turning point: Angels and Demons, invisible to mortal beings, battle for dominance in the physical world, while Guardians, vampires and werewolves, who live among the humans, find themselves on opposing sides in a deadly power game.

VICTORIAN TOWN by Nancy Thorne

VICTORIAN TOWN

by Nancy Thorne

Genre: YA Paranormal Romance with Mystery & Time Travel elements

Publisher: Soul Mate Publishing

Abby Parker planned out her whole life: complete her final year of high school, go to college, get a job, move away from her insane family, stay best friends with Jessica.

But, that was before she broke into the nearby tourist attraction and unwittingly answered a call from a centuries-old spirit who dragged her into the 19th century.

Now she must solve a Victorian mystery without getting herself killed, or worse, spend a lifetime trapped in the past, leaving behind everyone she loves and altering their lives forever.

When she meets gorgeous Benjamin, the future looks a lot like wreckage.

I looked for a lock on the door but there wasn't one. All I needed was for Dr. Edgecombe to walk in and see me naked, even if he was a real doctor or a real delusion. I stripped while listening for footsteps and placed my torn and dirty clothes in a pile beside the washbasin table. The porcelain pitcher was filled to the brim with water, seemingly prepared for unexpected guests. I poured it all into the basin.

A small box that read LYE SOAP had been placed on two woven facecloths and one towel. I dipped one of the cloths into the water and felt the ring slip to my knuckle. I ran the washcloth over my hands before scrubbing every other part of me. It was when I dried myself with the extremely scratchy towel that I noticed the sparkling luster of the ring's silver. I squinted at it uncertainly. Nothing made any sense. I needed to get into that bed.

Plopping onto the mattress, my body sank gently into the feathery stuffing until I was sure I'd never been that comfortable in my life. I grabbed the side of the bedspread, pulled it over me, and fixated on the ceiling for what felt like the longest time, counting the circular knots in the wood − and that's when I must have dozed off.

"Are you awake, Abigail?" Martha's voice seeped through the door.

I opened my eyes, one at a time, to the ceiling. Still in Victorian Town. "Yes, I think so."

"Dinner is almost ready. You must be famished."

Dinner? I must have slept for hours. "Oh, okay. I'll just be a few minutes."

"Do take your time, Abigail. I have given you a respectful allotment of advance notice."

The latch secured to the chest at the bottom of the bed was easy to open. However, the solid wood lid was heavier than I imagined and difficult to raise. I heaved until it stayed upright, then peered at the contents. Linens and clothes in a multitude of colors and prints were folded with exactness and nestled in layers. On top of everything was a red dress.

"Will have to do." I lifted it from the trunk and placed it on the bed. It had a fitted waist and a wide full skirt with buttons that ran up the front from the midsection to the lace trim on the collar. I then took out everything that looked like underwear and placed each item beside the dress. Every piece of clothing appeared lovingly cared for. There was nothing at all in the trunk that resembled a bra, and the closest thing to clean panties I was going to get were the pajama-style pantalettes Martha had mentioned. They reached almost to my ankles and were sewn together along the inside seam until reaching the crotch, where they were just, well, open, so I don't think spinster aunt had mended them very well.

✯✯✯✯✯ What a unique love story! by Liza O'Connor

I don’t even know how to share this story without spoilers.

Thereforth, let me tell you about the author...she has done a great deal of research for this story which takes place in modern times and the Victorian era in the U.S. She lays the town out in fabulous detail. The clothes, the houses, the blacksmith, even the privy.

The heroine, Abby, was born in modern times to an unhappy family. The only ones who seems to love her is her dog and her best friend.

By placing a ring Abby found upon her finger, she ends up in the same town, only more than a hundred years earlier. Despite her strange clothes (she’s wearing pants), her bemoaning the loss of her cell phones, and the inability to dance properly, a family takes her in, and she adapts and falls in love with the smithy Ben.

Thus, she returns to her own time soon after. For it she stays, she’ll change history. To prove the point, she and her best friend research the town in modern time. However, when people that she loves in this past have futures that turn out less than what she wants, Abby returns to try and fix matters...several times. It’s a tricky thing when you play with the past. And the best of intentions are not a sure fix.

And I’m not saying anymore, other than READ THIS BOOK!

✯✯✯✯✯ Great read! by Sarah Rutter

Honestly couldn't put this book down. I kept telling myself "just one more chapter" but then I'd read five! Overall a really great read.

✯✯✯✯ YA Time-Travel by Petula Winmill

Abigail Parker chases her dog into a local tourist attraction and finds something he dug up. She ends up suddenly transported into the past, with a mystery to solve. Will her traveling backwards and forwards mess with history ?? If so who will be affected ??

This is a sweet innocent time-travel story. Our heroine is a teenager with an unhappy family life and a best friend who is not pleased with her new interest.

An entertaining book for younger readers.

✯✯✯✯ Changing the past by Rebecca Austin

Abby Parker is following her dog Riley when she finds a ring that takes her back in time to 1876. There she must solve a mystery regarding the disappearance of Elizabeth Edgecombe, the sister of her new friend Martha.

But when Abby takes off the ring she is back to the current time with her best friend Jess. The two work together to try and figure out what happened in the past.

But when Abby meets Benjamin Dunstone in the past, where will Abby remain?

I enjoyed this book and how Abby was torn between the two worlds and trying to do what she could to save those she cared about. Yet she found her friendship with Jess was starting to get strained as Jess was worried that Abby was going to change the past so that it would alter the future.

I thought it was great how the author explained everything in the past to Abby and how much of a hard time Abby had initially with adapting to everything. She thought it was a joke to begin with so it was pretty interesting how she realized the truth.

I was super curious to see what was going to happen every time Abby went back after learning what was going to happen with the archives and how she did change certain things.

I wasn't really surprised at the end but part of me was as I really thought Jess would be involved.

The Secret of the Lost Pharaoh by Carolyn Arnold

FINAL CHANCE

How You Can Save the World and Enter to Win a $175 Prize Pack!

“If you like action-packed adventure books that will keep you reading well into the wee hours, I would recommend The Secret of the Lost Pharaoh.”
–Jennly Reads

message from the author

To celebrate the release of my second action adventure The Secret of the Lost Pharaoh , I’m offering up my largest prize pack to date! But, first let me tell you about the book…

When it came to writing The Secret of the Lost Pharaoh, I wanted to create a story in the same vein as City of Gold, maintaining what reviewers described as “a fast-paced action adventure” that is “akin to an Indiana Jones story set in modern times.” So in this second installment, archaeologist and adventurer Matthew Connor and his two closest friends set off for Egypt to save the world. I even splashed in a bit of the police action my readers know and love.

“Why does the world need saving?” you may ask, possibly skeptical. Well, an old friend and colleague of Matthew’s has discovered ancient hieroglyphics that hint at the whereabouts of an ancient Egyptian tomb and a mysterious treasure that is said to contain the knowledge of the universe. Beyond that, it can grant humans the ability to traverse Heaven and Earth, and it bestows whoever possesses it with great wealth and wisdom. Now, imagine something like that falling into the hands of terrorists or world powers set on domination… Needless to say, it could lead to global annihilation!

My hope is that The Secret of the Lost Pharaoh will provide readers with a thrill ride that digs into the depths of human nature when one is tempted by power. But if you’re looking for a slow build, this isn’t the book for you. Readers are immediately thrown into the heat of Egypt’s Western Desert, where Matthew’s friend Alexandria Leonard is about to make a life-altering discovery.

c56c8-excerpt

Here’s a snippet from the prologue of The Secret of the Lost Pharaoh (Matthew Connor Adventure series):

The sun had barely broken the horizon, but Alex was wide-awake and strapped into her safety harness. She had dreamed of this moment her entire life, and now that it was becoming reality, she could hardly believe it. Here she was at the age of forty and leading her first archaeological dig in Egypt’s Western Desert. Even more incredible was the fact that she and her team were on the brink of a monumental discovery.

They had detected a manmade tunnel that ran thirty-five feet beneath the ground and over 3,600 feet to the east. Where the tunnel ended, there was in a large open space that the ground-penetrating radar couldn’t identify.

Alex stood at the opening of the hole with her site foreman, Jeff Webb; a hieroglyphics expert named Jasper Blair; and two of four laborers, Seth and Timal. They would be responsible for lowering her down.

She took a deep breath, preparing her mind for the descent and the cramped space. Her team had only dug out a well of about four feet in diameter. The position she was in when she went down would be the way she’d stay, as there would be no room to flip over.

She wiped the back of her arm across her forehead to wick away the sweat that kept dripping down her face. She pinched her eyes shut, wishing she had her favorite blue sweatband from high school, when wearing one had been all the rage—back around the time when belonging to a Tape of the Month Club was the thing to do.

She let her long, blond hair down from the ponytail she’d had it in and redid it, tighter this time, pulling it into a messy bun. Back home in northern Michigan, she rarely put her hair up, reserving that for times when she was focused on her work or studies, but in this part of the world, she often wore it up. Even a warm breeze on the back of her neck was better than none at all.

“Good thing you skipped the second course last night,” Jeff teased her.

Not that size was an issue for either of them. She was lean and athletic, and while Jeff had a solid build, he was trim with narrow shoulders.

“Same goes for you,” she tossed back with a smile. She’d known him for years and worked on several digs with him. He’d been the one who had removed two of the stone bricks from the tunnel’s ceiling to create the small opening through which they could descend. He’d been down there to set up a radio module and transmitting antenna that enabled communication between whoever was underground and whoever was on the surface.

Jeff moved behind her and tightened her harness. “Ah!” She sucked air in through gritted teeth. “Maybe just leave enough room for me to breathe.”

He loosened the restraints slightly. “Good?”

She managed to slip her fingers between the straps and her rib cage. “It’ll do.”

He turned to face her again. “Here’s your radio.” Jeff handed her an earpiece that worked with the radio he’d put in place.

“Talk into it for me,” he told her.

She tapped a button on the earpiece and said, “Hello, hello, hello.” She smirked at her mock echo.

Jeff laughed. “I heard you loud and clear. In surround sound, actually. All right, one more thing.” He popped a miner hat on her head, and she fastened the chin strap. “I think it’s best if we lower you feetfirst so that you can be positioned upright in the tunnel.” Jeff’s demeanor became serious.

Alex nodded and looked down again. It was a good thing that she wasn’t claustrophobic or afraid of being suspended by a rope and lowered helplessly into the ground. And while she might not battle with many fears, part of her was as terrified as she was excited about the prospect of setting foot where no one—besides Jeff briefly—had likely been in thousands of years. But this was just meant to be a brief look-see, and she’d be going solo. When she set out in earnest to explore the tunnel, she’d take members of her team with her.

She reached for the gold chain around her neck and pinched the tiny pendant that dangled from it. The Eye of Horus, also known as the Eye of Ra, was an ancient Egyptian symbol of protection. Out here in the desert, she needed all the help she could get. She kissed it and tucked it back beneath her shirt.

“Are you ready?” Jeff asked.

She met Jeff’s eyes and flicked on the headlamp. “I’m ready.”

Jeff pulled an LED flare from his back pocket, turned it on, and tossed it into the hole. Watching the light descend emphasized just how far down it was to the tunnel.

Once it hit the ground, Jeff rolled his hand toward Seth and Timal. “You heard her. Down she goes.”

More sweat dripped from her brow, and she wiped her forehead again. And things were just heating up out here—if you could call already being a hundred degrees “just heating up.” As it was, waves of heat were cutting through the air like ribbons on the horizon, and it was only eight o’clock in the morning.

She looked around at her crew, steadying her thoughts and locking on to her resolve to make history. Great men and women made a habit of stepping outside their comfort zones, living on the edge, and testing out unchartered waters. And she wanted to be among them, to make a difference in the world by unearthing what remained of long gone great empires. Sometimes that required delving into the unknown.

She shook her fanciful musings aside. After all, they may not have discovered anything more than an empty tunnel.

She sat on the ledge, dangling her legs inside the hole. She tugged on the rope secured to her harness, which was connected to a rigging system that Seth and Timal would use to lower her. She glanced at Seth and Timal, confident in their abilities to guide her safely down and back up again. And with one more look at Jeff, she pushed off, letting herself become suspended.

Her heart thumped against her rib cage as she was lowered. She reached out and touched the makeshift walls that her men had put in place to prevent a cave-in. Her fingertips brushed against some sand, and it was slightly cool to the touch, but the air around her was still hot. A few of the granules sprinkled down the shaft.

About six feet beneath the ground, she felt incredibly alone. Although, it was also quiet and peaceful.

As Jeff’s form continued to become smaller above her and the space she was in became more shadowed, brief apprehension lanced through her. But the allure of what lie ahead silenced her anxiety.

The Butterfly Healer by Muffy Wilson

Can strangers hide in secret, as dark things, to be loved between the shadow and the soul?

Oliver Brainard, an insurance actuary, is a man who has experienced love from only one woman—his mother. He has never loved, nor lived, outside the confines of his brownstone. He, as a middle-aged man, is the man few people see and fewer people even acknowledge. He is the quiet one who, bound by his deformity, always finishes last.

New to the neighborhood and curious by nature, Victoria Blakely is an avid collector. She has been watching Oliver for weeks from her upstairs window. She witnessed a crippled man, crushed by time and denial, resigned to his physical plight who is apparently content with his circumstances. Never touched by kindness or love, his life has never been lived.

He is perfect. Can Victoria awaken the freedom in Oliver to escape his self-imposed shackles for the bondage of love? Or will his painful fear deny her the pleasures of unfurling his life poised above the precipice of pleasure?

This is the story of how strangers become healers, knitting lives together with love and trust, restoring hope and discovering passion through a timeless and sometimes perilous innocent freedom—the freedom of butterflies.

Dangerous Bliss!

Bad Medicine by Red L. Jameson

Nurse Ian Ryder, or just Ryder, is everything I want. He’s big. He’s tough. He’s oh-so-sexy with his leather jacket and motorcycle that I’ve had indecent fantasies about. The perfect candidate to reveal my secret—I’m still a virgin, worried I’ll die this way if I don’t do something about it soon. Somehow, I’m going to convince Ryder to play doctor with me.

Dr. Asha Whitetail is completely out of my league. Intelligent and sophisticated. And those glasses she wears makes me think about steaming up her scrubs. When an awkward moment turns into a hot kiss, I realize I’m going to do everything I can to have her—not just her body but her heart too. Problem is, she seems to want only one thing from me. So I’m going to make her an offer she can’t refuse. I’ll give her what she wants, if she spends time with me, gets to know me, the real me, while I do everything in my power to convince her she can play doctor with me…for life.

Free clinic doctor, Devon Jameson, needs more hands on deck. He can't possibly handle all the medical cases alone. When Rachel walks in, volunteering her services, he knows he has no choice other than to take her on board as she proves her worth when a pediatric trauma is left on his doorstep and there’s no one else to assist.

As the two begin working together, their lives intertwine and the attraction intensifies. Scarred deeply by their past and their pain, Rachel and Devon begin a future only angels could predict.

Dr. Monique Reed wants nothing to do with the mob life. She took an oath to do no harm, and made a personal vow to herself that the ugliness of her family’s business would never touch her life. That was before she fell in love with Jeremiah Tobin. Before she found herself sleeping with the enemy.

In a world where family trumps everything, and loyalty means the difference between life and death, Jeremiah and Monique find the kind of love neither of them ever expected – a love that throws them into a fight for their lives, and their future.

Behind the Bench by Linda O'Connor

Trey finds Danni…distracting. Beauty, brains, and sexy moves on the ice have him uncomfortably attracted. He’s the new guy on the block. He has a reputation to build and a standard to set. The last thing he needs is a complication.

When the team spirals out of control, and Danni and Trey get caught up in a possible drug scandal, things heat up on and off the ice. It’s a whole new game plan…Behind the Bench.

Burn Hard by Elianne Adams

Seven months ago, Trista left the Odyssey, and the sexiest, most frustrating man she’d ever met behind. At least, that’s what she’d thought, until Ryland came into her life again, with an insurance policy in the form of a contract she’d signed tight in his grip. Against her better judgment—and her will—she has to go back with him and spend an entire month trying to resist the crazy pull he had on her. Right. No problem at all. She just has to keep him from worming his way back into her heart and destroying it once and for all. Because once the month was up, she was going home, and their time together would be done. Forever.

Nothing in his life had prepared Ryland for the agony of losing his one true mate. When Trista had left the Odyssey—and him—behind, he’d had no one to blame but himself. That knowledge didn’t make the devastating loss any easier. Raging inside him, his phoenix refuses to accept his decision to let her go. Now, out of control, he has to bring her back and either make it work or be forced to leave the Odyssey for good.

Cabin Fever by Amy Lee Burgess

The dead body of an FBI agent is the last thing nurse Lucy Cameron expects to find on her daily walk near her mountaintop cabin in Colorado. When Nick Astin, the dead man’s partner, tells her there’s a murderous fugitive on the loose, Lucy is terrified.

With a winter storm on the way, Lucy is forced to offer hospitality. Considering her intimacy issues, being snowbound with a sexy man like Nick Astin is not Lucy’s idea of a perfect weekend. However, Nick has other ideas. Unfortunately, so does the killer.

Tempting Doctor Forever By Holly Cortelyou

An old crush. A hot doctor. And one tempting night with consequences.

Samantha Barrett’s got it all under control…if wrangling a classroom of rowdy ninth-graders, chasing a delinquent dog, or living with your grandmother don’t count against you. As if that wasn’t enough, her brother’s best friend, Dr. Ethan Cordero, is back in Barrett Ridge and living next door…and boom, she’s reliving every single one of her silly schoolgirl fantasies about the delicious doctor.

Now, Ethan’s eyes may spark with attraction when he sees her, but his cool, professional demeanor demands she keep her distance. After a string of ill-starred romances, Sam’s sure that common sense will rule the day, right? Of course, she barely notices Ethan’s sizzling-hot, hard abs, broad shoulders or his heart-melting dedication to his teen son.

Dr. Ethan Cordero has it all mapped out for his fresh start in Barret Ridge. Only two things count — get his son, Mateo, through high school and grow his medical practice. That’s all good until Samantha Barrett charges into his backyard, gets under his skin, and lifts that shadow lurking over his heart. But his best friend’s little sister keeps mixing up his well-laid plans with that curvy little backside of hers, her joyful laugh, and her surprising bond with Mateo.

Between a con artist canine, a confused grandma, a backstabbing stepmother, and one decadent chocolate cake, Ethan finds that every path winds right back into the arms of the oh-so-enticing girl next door, Sam.

It’s Not You by Liz Crowe

Hello, my name is Eve and I am a Canadian author who loves to write hot romance, usually with hot shifters, cyborgs or aliens. I should warn you that I possess a twisted imagination and a sarcastic sense of humor something I like to let loose in my writing.

I love to write, and while I don't always know what my mind is going to come up with next, I can promise it will be fun, probably humorous and most of all romantic, because I love a happily ever after.

Read for FREE!

Okay, I decided to put some of my books into Kindle Unlimited with the hope that they may be read and enjoyed.

AMAZON UK - http://goo.gl/YUQu68
AMAZON USA - http://goo.gl/pFsY1e

description

If you are not a member, my books are only 99p /99c, although Maisie is £1 /$1 (I was fed up with the 99 silliness...as if folks don't realise it's a marketing ploy).

Two of my books are FREE - The Star Realm (#1 Avalon Trilogy) and Weird: A Henry Ian Darling Oddity: Missive One - yes, I know, it's yet another marketing ploy in the hope that readers will love #1 and want the others. Has it worked? Maybe a little.

I've no idea what makes some books sell better than others. It can't be talent or some that are at the top of the charts would...mustn't be nasty. Or am I jealous - uh huh. But, seriously, I look at the bookshelves and wonder just how they got there.

I read many, many books - an important part of being an author - and, again, wonder why they are not bestsellers. I'm not saying that everything I read (mainly from the independent pool) is brilliant, some stories are poorly written, boring and don't engage me at all.

It's said that only great marketing will make a book sell - so that's me always at the bottom of the pile, then, as I don't have the funds for anything except free.

It's said that talent will always win - hmm, not true when you read some of the dross that's at the top.

It's said that poor editing is the downfall of many books so they don't sell - not true, I have never read a book without an error and some that are top sellers are extremely bad - typos, misspelling, wrong names, words missed out and more...

It's said that it's who you know - probably. I'm a nobody who doesn't know anyone with influence and I refuse to try (not that they'd accept me) Big Brother or any TV reality show...celebrities, oh my, that's for another discussion. Perhaps I should be a criminal? No thanks.

It's said that...so much is said, but what is the truth? What makes stories sell?

It's beyond me.

Whatever the answer, I continue to write and love it. My stories are important to me and each is meaningful and as professionally finished as possible. I do everything from writing, editing, proofreading, designing covers, marketing and promoting. And, I think they are brilliant!!!

Do I sound sorry for myself? I hope not because that is not my intention. I'm trying to keep going, to believe in my writing ability, but sometimes it's difficult not to sigh deeply and wonder why I'm doing it if others are not interested. But then I know that whatever happens, I'll continue writing because if I didn't, my insanity would show itself through other means [manic laughter].

Oops, too far...

If you've read to here, wow, thank you. Try my stories, you'll love them [grateful laughter]. And if you review them, double wow!!!

Weird!

Hello!

Well, something definitely weird is going on - I've just added details of my new book in the Weird series and it's appeared twice and I'm not able to delete one...oops. Update: Problem solved, I've made the second one a paperback link for Lulu.

However, Weird: A Henry Ian Darling Oddity: Missive Four is now available in paperback and as a Kindle edition.

Paperback: http://www.lulu.com/shop/julie-elizab...

Blurb:

Ms. Peabody has seen the future and it is encompassed by a cataclysmic event, something set in place aeons ago. But is it something that can be changed; for all know that the past cannot be altered?

Henry Ian Darling has stumbled into a mire of oddness, one filled with demons and one in which he must venture if he is to stop that possible future – but how can he do the impossible?

Time is against them, though Time has its own rules, so Henry knows it’s unfeasible, but also knows he has to strive forward as he always does.

***

I didn't know exactly what was going to happen, as Henry usually leads the way so to constantly surprise me. But I'm pleased with the result.

I love Henry and am already writing the next missive as he insisted on furthering the adventure.

I hope you will, too.

Oh, and, if you could leave a review, I'd be grateful.

Thank you!

MILITARY AGAINST ZOMBIES by Alathia Paris Morgan

MILITARY AGAINST ZOMBIES

by Alathia Paris Morgan

Genre: Horror - Zombies

MAZ2.jpg

Brad Jackson is overseas, serving his country, when the zombie sickness hits. The National Guard had been overrun, and the sick are turning into zombies faster than bullets can stop them. Ordered to evacuate to Nashville with his unit, he's only a few hours away from Jackson Mountain, where his wife, Emma, was supposed to go if all hell broke loose. Now, his only motivation is to complete the mission and make it home, but the zombies seem to have other plans for Company D.

Meanwhile, the sickness has spread to the countryside, and former marine, Linc Harris, is torn between the two women he has sworn to protect--his girlfriend, Jessica, and his mother, Mavis. Jessica appears to be safe on the farm, but his mother is trapped in town. A bully is determined to stamp out the zombie sickness by killing all those who are sick. Can Linc save his mother and the town from from the sick before they turn, or a bully kills them?

A few of the troops were starting to cough the closer we got to the States. This always happened when we made the change of atmosphere from east to west.

But the closer we got toward home, the sicker sounding those coughs became. The medics had taken all those that were showing signs of illness and moved them to the back of the plane. Our leaders hung blankets, hoping to avoid the spread of germs in the contained area.

With only about thirty minutes of flying over the water left, a growling sound started coming from the back of the plane.

Screams and grunts erupted from behind the curtain as a blood-covered hand gripped the blanket, pulling it down.

“Buckle in, we’re going to open the cargo door! I repeat, strap yourselves in…” The voice trailed off as everyone tried to grab their guns and strap in at the same time.

A blast of air was sucked out of the plane as the pilot tried to prepare everyone for the difference in air pressure.

I watched in horror as bodies flew out of the cargo door with blood dripping from their teeth. I felt bad for the ones who hadn’t been as sick but were being sucked out of the tail of the plane as well.

When the cargo door closed, I gulped in the fresh air, only to hear more gasping sounds coming from the back of the plane.

Evidently, those who hadn’t been as sick were strapped into their seats and had become the infected dead, but they couldn’t do more than bite the person next to them.

My platoon officer yanked off his restraints, gun in hand, and ran to the back of the plane. Rapid shots followed and all the growling sounds were silenced.

Everyone on the plane watched as he walked around, checking each person and making sure those who were infected were dead.

While hard to watch, I knew it was the right thing to do even though I wasn’t sure if I could have done it myself.

The pilot spoke again. “Due to the growing problem, everyone will have to be inspected before they can leave the area and find a place to shower, eat, and rest up before orders are handed down.”

I groaned on the inside but knew that after what had occurred on the plane, extra precautions were needed.

With the way that things were going, they weren’t going to let us go home to our families. This virus, or one of those things were going to take us out one by one.

BETRAYAL: THE AWAKENING by Kira Hillins

BETRAYAL: THE AWAKENING

by Kira Hillins

Genre: Dark Paranormal Romance

For over four-hundred years Tristan Ashfield has waited for a cure for the ailment that chains him to the night. Like a vampire he’s lived off human blood, hunted and killed to stay alive, hoping one day a female would be born with a rare blood that would give him back his humanity. But Madeline, a woman he cared for long ago, has waited for the same prophecy to come to pass. When the search for mortality becomes a race, Tristan finds himself caught in a moral dilemma. Love the one who will save him? Or kill her to save his mortal soul?

As a child Anna Holden worshiped the ground he walked on, believing in his existence as a vampire until the day he left her. Her bitterness grew over the years, leading her to believe he was nothing but a con. Now, to fulfill the dying wish of her father, she’s on a quest to find his whereabouts and help him discover a cure she knew nothing about. Falling in love with him was not what she’d planned. But who was she to mess with destiny?

“In some of the old horror movies, a vampire turns into a bat.” Embarrassed for making such a silly comment, she took another salty bite of pork. “I mean, you obviously don’t turn into a bat to fly. But, maybe you have wings that nobody can see.”

He rested his elbows on the tabletop. Anna was glad to see him get comfortable for once while they carry on a meaningful conversation. “Mac believed that I am a vampire. I assure you that I cannot morph into creatures. I cannot make someone immortal with a bite. I am but one man with an eternal illness.”

“Your skin burns in daylight. Do you think, if you stood out in it long enough, you would turn to ash? Do you think a stake through the heart would kill you?”

“Would a stake through your heart kill you?” A curious expression flooded his face, as if color blended through his pale skin, but only for a moment, and then it was gone. He clasped his hands together. “I am immortal as I sit here with you, but death is uncertain. I imagine the sun against my skin, I imagine a stake through my heart, and I imagine a fall from the highest cliff might indeed bring an end to my soul. But I have not tried, nor have I dared to dream of my death since I made the promise to watch over you.”

His voice was gentle as he said his heartfelt words. Tears sprouted in her eyes. Her stomach growled for more food, but she refused to eat now. His words opened her eyes to his darkness, just enough to notice the struggle within him.

“Tristan…”

“I apologize for saying such things to you.” He lifted his hand to her face, but then returned it to the table.

She wiped away her tears. “Do you feel pain?” she asked, sniffling.

“I feel what any normal man feels, sorrow, pain, and…love.”

Love? The warmth in her face grew. “Can you…you know…love?”

Tristan cocked his head to the side as if he searched for reasoning behind her question. Then with an arch of his brows, she could tell he understood.

“Though I struggle with the darkness within, my body is made of skin, bone and muscle. Although different than mortal men, blood still pumps through my veins. I cannot explain it any other way.”

Thinking of him joining her in bed sent a jolt of electricity through her. To feel his arms around her, caressing her beneath the warm blankets, it would be just as she’d always imagined—beautiful.

LOVE, MUSIC, MADNESS by Tabitha Rhys

LOVE, MUSIC, MADNESS

by Tabitha Rhys

Genre: New Adult Contemporary Romance

Publisher: Soul Mate Publishing

Songwriting partners Lawson Harper and Jessa Warlow’s musical ambitions are derailed when their so-called relationship ends disastrously. However, neither Lawson nor Jessa is willing to give up on the album’s worth of soul-searing songs they wrote together—songs they’re sure are good enough to change both their lives.

Will the chemistry that fuels their creativity drive them to make the record of a lifetime, or only to absolute madness?

Over the course of several hours, Jessa and I pulled apart three of her songs and put them back together. The first two were soft and jazzy. The last was bluesy and thundering. When Jessa forgot a lyric, she referred to an old composition book she produced from under her bed. I couldn’t read most of the words that were scrawled over every inch, but she had no trouble deciphering the scribbles.

It was nearly two a.m. when we finally called it quits. By then, Jessa and I had three respectable song drafts recorded on her phone. “That went rather well,” Jessa said.

“It did.”

“Perhaps it’s something we’ll do again.”

“I hope so.” That was an understatement. I hadn’t felt so creative—or so accomplished—in a long time. I’d never thought of myself as a songwriter, but taking what Jessa had already made and layering on top of it came easy to me. I couldn’t wait to do it again.

I sensed Jessa’s eyes following me as I got to my feet and placed her Taylor carefully on its stand. “Hey,” she said, hugging her knees to her chest, “would you mind not telling anybody that we met up tonight?”

“No problem.” I shrugged. “Any special reason?”

She hesitated. “I’m sort of laying low.”

“What do you mean?”

“I haven’t told any of my friends I’m back in town.” She sighed. “You see, I don’t want anybody to know that I quit my job. Or that I’m living here with my parents. Not until I have a record—or at least more to show for this move back home. Does that make sense?”

“Perfect sense.” It did. Although I hadn’t suspected Jessa Warlow would care what her friends thought of her. Or anybody for that matter.

I moved to retrieve my jacket from her bed, where I’d tossed it mid-session. Then something occurred to me. If Jessa was intent on hiding out, she would probably want to know that my brother was coming to town. Mostly because that meant those hiding out days were numbered.

If Jessa had once been Gunther’s queen, my brother Thom had just as surely been king—a role he savored and was likely to resume upon arrival. As soon as Thom got to Gunther, old friends, and friends of friends, would start coming around again. No doubt about it.

I wasn’t sure I wanted to give Jessa what might be received as bad news. At the same time, I knew she would find out eventually and wonder why I hadn’t given her a heads up.

“If you haven’t talked to your friends, then I guess nobody told you my brother’s visiting after Christmas,” I said slowly.

Just as I hoped it wouldn’t, Jessa’s smile faded. “Thom is coming here? To Gunther? You can’t be serious.”

All she had to do was look at me to know I was.

“Hasn’t Thom been out in California for the last four years?”

“He has.”

Jessa bristled. “So, why now?”

“He claims to miss Gunther. He claims to miss my mom, and my sister, and me.”

Jessa raised herself from the floor and put her guitar back on its stand with jerky motions. “I see. I guess I won’t be ‘laying low’ much longer.”

“Sorry,” I said, “I shouldn’t have brought it up.”

“I’m glad you did,” Jessa insisted. But she didn’t sound glad. Not at all.

By then, I was wishing very hard that I had kept quiet. Jessa and I had just completed a near-perfect session—we were on the brink of scheduling a follow-up rehearsal, I was sure of it—and I had gone and made myself the bearer of bad news.

I tried to think of something encouraging to say, but couldn’t come up with anything that wouldn’t sound fake or forced. I reached for my jacket and got ready to say a speedy goodnight.

But before I could get anything out, something unexpected happened.

Jessa stepped toward me, eyes narrowed. Then she grabbed a handful of my T-shirt. And crushed her lips against my lips.

I couldn’t have been more surprised. All I could think was that she had made some kind of mistake. I expected her to jump back, muttering excuses, any second.

She didn’t.

Instead, she yanked me closer.
