If You Love Michigan, You'll

Love This Guy

The last weeks have been crazy busy, writing, formatting and editing while doing Mimi duty and awaiting the arrival of my newest grandson (pictures coming soon– sorry, it’s a Mimi thing).

But I wanted to share with you the work of a Michigan artist/photographer/graphic designer. I love Greg Kretovic’s photography. If you love Michigan as much as I do, you will appreciate his landscape photos. Check out his workhere and here . I am a fan of his blog, and while I really can’t pick a favorite...

What an Eight-Year-Old Knows Might Astonish You

I am sure that any 8 year old would think you a moron if you lined up four crayons, red, green, yellow, blue and told him all the crayons are red. He would answer, correctly, “No they are not.” But someday his teacher will instruct, “They are if you think they are.” This is education.

You see you may think you know something, beings you have lived awhile and have experience in the things of life. Not so. Come to find out, it’s all an illusion. Nothing is real. This is also education.

Don’t...

Are You Fighting the Good Fight?

I can truly say with the Psalmist that God has filled my life with good things. But I have had my share of disappointments and prayers with a “No” answer.

Disappointment, however, needs to be evaluated by the Holy Spirit. Right now I am dealing with a few situations that have had disappointing results. Disappointment breeds discouragement which throws me into a swirl of thoughts: doubt and the fear of failure.I slow my momentum. I stew on the doubts. I wonder where I made mistakes. This is...

Is America Being Tempted

by Lying Prophets?

An ominous mass of lead gray storm clouds are threatening to swallow the sun. In the distance what looks like fog is another snow squall blowing in from the northwest. It is a good day to catch up on reading and news, I think as I toss another log onto the fire from my dwindling stack of wood.

Brussels has my attention. Especially interesting are the warnings from members of Belgium’s Parliament and author Sam Van Rooy (Islam: Critical Essays on a Political Religion) to not become the minor...

How to Motivate and Recruit Volunteers for

Church Ministry

One problem ministries face is recruiting volunteers. It is said that twenty percent of the people do eighty percent of the work involved in keeping the church and its ministries running. This means the same woman who works in the nursery probably swept the carpet in the sanctuary, and it is her husband who leads a men’s group and is on the worship team.

This type of workload can burden a church and limit its opportunities for growth. How can we engage more volunteers and keep them motivat...

Spring In Michigan Means Snow...What Else?

As I write this, the fire in my woodstove is crackling away and the pot of water on top of it is steaming. I am enjoying the warmth because outside it is blowing snow under gray skies and with a chill wind.

There is a robin huddled in the bare branches of a vibernum outside my window. Bet he wisheshe got the memo that spring doesn’t start in Michigan until May.

My oldest daughter was lamenting that the dress she bought for Easter came too late to wear for the holiday. I mentioned that she...

What Is the Cure for America's Fear?

Four American deaths, among others in an airport in Brussles, has filled the news and minds of Americans. We are praying for families, praying for safety and praying something would be done to answer the threats from terrorism against normal society.

Our President, after dancing the tango and hob-nobbing with a dictator, has acted. He is working to bring hundreds of refugees, terrorists embedded in their midst, into the United States.

At the 2016 Prayer Breakfast he instructed Christians no...
