Review: Long Time Gone
Mary Connealy’s book, Long Time Gone, is a classic Christian western with a modern, humorous twist.
The story begins quickly, mid-scene from where it left off in the previous book, No Way Up of the Cimarron Legacy series. The start is rather unsatisfactory, though. Awkward sentence structure and chaotic arrangement flaw an otherwise good concept. The scene is chaotic as it demands to be, but I would have enjoyed it more if the writing were smoother.
The writing improves, however, as the plo...

Is Jesus God?

Here's a sneak peek:
It is important that you are aware of the areas that Satan attacks philosophically. He attacks the truth, the reality of experience or history, and language. He attacks these areas generally as you will see in the following philosophies and individually as we see in his dialogues with Eve and Jesus in Genesis 3 and Luke 4 respectively. He rephrases and devalues truth, twist...

Three Steps to a Thoroughly Clean Home
Spring is here! I am so happy to see robins and... the ground! The snow is gone, the sun is shining and I have the urge to clean.
Spring cleaning is a tradition, a rite of spring as much as daffodils and tulips.
Jesus was often accused of violating tradition even though He said He did not come to do away with the Law. Matthew 5:17 says, "Don't suppose that I came to do away with the law and the Prophets. I did not come to do away with them, but to give them their full meaning."
His life an...

How Good Gardening Practices Can Help You Hear God
I love to garden. The warm weather has me making plans for my new landscape. Here, however, I will be battling the appetites of numerous deer and squirrels. I’ve been spending a lot of time perusing deer-resistant plant lists. But the challenge will be worth it, I say to myself.
Growing anything anywhere can be a gamble. Jesus knew that. But he planted anyway.
In Mark chapter 4, Jesus is talking about planting seed. Sowing is the word used, and it has the meaning of scattering seed. Thi...

When You Wish You Had an Ox
Driving down a country road, I came upon a succession of white farmhouses, crisp red barns and rolling pastures where beef cattle were grazing: black and red angus, belted Galloways and a few Charolais. It was a scene that reminded me of my childhood and people dear to me.
To the descendants of Gershon and Merari, the sight of numerous oxen and carts held a different meaning. These people were part of the tribe of Levi. The Israelites at this time in their history had no permanent temple....

Do You Have the Courage to Pursue Your Dream?
Have you ever had a goal, a dream, that somehow faded into the background of your story? Life with its baggage and responsibilities elbowed its way to the center, eating up your time and opportunities.
Choices write our stories. Perhaps your choices, good and bad, have led you away from pursuing your dream. Perhaps you think they’ve ended it.
Moses was trained as a leader. As the adopted son of the Pharaoh’s daughter, he was educated as a prince in the royal Egyptian court. At forty, he ha...

Review: Murder on the Moor by Julianna Deering
[image error]
Murder on the Moor by Julianna Deering is a satisfying tale in the style of an old Nick and Nora Charles mystery. A husband and wife team travels to Bunting’s Nest to solve the mystery of a murdered vicar. It is a lovely mix of Agatha Christie, Sherlock Holmes and PBS’s Mystery!
The characters are well developed and believable. The dialogue is pertinent to the story, and the plot moves at a good pace. There are no paragraphs and pages you will want to skip. The settings might be a bit more...

How to Get Heaven's Applause
[image error]
#TomBrady in Superbowl 51 has fought and won his battle for validation. His win against Atlanta had nothing to do with air in a football. It was about the character in the man. And maybe some help from above.
Validation by worldly standards comes by applause and awards. Jealous critics may voice complaints, but overall the world rewards its heroes. For Christians, validation comes by a harsher hand. Jesus said, “If you belonged to the world, then the world would love you as its own. But I...

Become What You Believe in 2017

It was recently reported by the Marist Institute of Public Opinion that dieting is not the top New Year’s resolution for 2017. Instead, the goal is becoming a better person.
The pursuit of “better” has been humanity’s goal since Eve picked the forbidden fruit. That first fateful attempt aside, no matter how impossible the odds, man has always hoped and strived to improve his condition.
Blindness had many causes in Israel during the Roman Empire. Infections, accidents,...
