My thoughts on the NYT anxiety article...

This week I published a post on fear. I also shared a  New York Times article on Facebook about teens and anxiety. Anxiety seems to be the accepted medical term. According to the Anxiety and Depression Association of America anxiety disorders affect “40 million adults (18-54) every year.” Fears range from general to specific, but whatever the type, it brings torment to the person involved.

But kids are suffering too. I was surprised to find out in the Times article that scho...

The Spirit That Conquers Fear

As a disciple, Peter had his issues. Sometimes he spoke too much. Sometimes he spoke when he just should’ve kept quiet. He was bold, but sometimes without thinking. Or, even understanding.

Critics called him a Galilean, which he was because he was from the west coast of the Sea of Galilee. But they weren’t criticizing the location. Galileans had a reputation for being simple, rough, independent and blunt. Their northern accent was even considered harsh.

He was not a cu...

Jesus Puts the Good in Good Shepherd

My family raised sheep, so I know what a good shepherd does, and I know what the sheep look like who are in the care of a good shepherd. I am sure you do too.

In John 10 Jesus describes those who trust in Him as His sheep. Verse 9 says, “I am the door. If anyone enters in by me, he will be saved, and will go in and go out, and will find pasture.” (WEB)  Going in and going out can be a picture of our relationship with Jesus. We come in to Him and we find nurture. We go out an...

Undo the Overwhelm

Sometimes I feel overwhelmed. I wear a lot of hats, none I want to give up. The secret to victory is knowing when to do what. The secret is tied to the source from which our decisions are made and our thoughts rule.

What the heck does that mean? Yeah, I didn’t get it for a long time either.

In the sentence, Sometimes I feel overwhelmed, we can locate my thought process by the word feel. I’m thinking out of my emotions, my flesh and what I see in my mind as scary impossible–...

NOAH

It is the ultimate survivor tale. One man and his family are the only people alive on earth after a magnificent disaster. It is the stuff of fables. A boatload of animals and four men and four women are the source of countless species and billions of people.

But it is more than an adventure, and surprisingly it is not a fable. Discover Noah’s world unfolding in the fields of modern science and archaeology. Find out the truth hidden in legends and buried in the open for all to see.

This is No...

When God Says Take A Break

[image error]Today the lyrics of a song are playing in my head. It is the phrase, “It may look like I’m surrounded but I’m surrounded by You,” from Fight My Battles by Elyssa Smith.

Elijah was one prophet who had to fight a few battles. God told him at one point to hide because the rulers wanted him dead for pronouncing a famine on the land. He sent Elijah to an unlikely refuge: Zarephath in Sidon, the heart and soul of Baal worship.

Elijah needed to be taken care of. He needed to eat. God picked out a p...

Why You Should Praise God When Your Life Is In The Hole

Praise. God calls it a sacrifice. Psalm 50:14 says, “Offer to God thanksgiving; and pay your vows to the Most High.” Because sometimes life sends us down a long road. Reasons vary.

Peter and Silas went down one of those roads. They were paying, but in a different way. Because they had freed a young girl, they were caught, gripped by sturdy, violent hands. They were accused, stripped, whipped without a legal limit and beaten. To make sure they could do no more magic, they were dragged into...

Healing? What About Job?

If you delve into the topic of suffering or healing, it won’t be long until you meet Job. His story is usually pointed to as proof that God uses sickness to teach you a lesson. Persecution for a religious stance is not sickness. It is a fight against the god of this world, and as followers of Jesus it comes to us.  We must not confuse the two in a discussion on Job.

But there is a huge flashing neon sign, THE BIG PICTURE, believers fail to see. Let’s take a look at Job.

Job lived after the...

How Living Inside Out Creates the Order We Crave

Authors are a diverse group. No one technique or style defines them. It is their goal that unites them. They desire to communicate, to say something.

Achieving their goal requires focused attention. The B.I.C. approach as I have heard one author explain it. Butt Inn Chair.

I have taken that advice recently concerning one of our latest projects, Noah. I haven’t disappeared; I’ve focused, taken the opportunity God gave me every morning to be single minded, to finish. At least the rough draf...

Blood  Moon NOT the End...Yet

I’ve seen the buzz on the internet concerning Friday’s blood moon and what the media reports as a doomsday prophecy.

Time for some facts. The blood moon does not signal thee day the world ends. The Bible clearly states that we do not know the day or the hour, meaning specifically. But we can know the season. We can know what to look for. And yes, a blood moon is one of the signs.

The Joel verse that is being quoted says that it ushers in the time. “The sun shall be turned into darkness...
