Public News Service: Minnesota Producers Receive $748k to Develop Next Generation of Biofuels
ST. PAUL, Minn. – U.S. Senator Al Franken (D-Minn) has announced that seven Minnesota biofuel producers will receive nearly $748,000 to expand advanced biofuel production. Franken says the funding will help create jobs, reduce the nation's dependence on foreign oil and take the country into the next generation of biofuels. He sees Minnesota's leadership with corn ethanol as a great transition point.
"It's good for Minnesota, it's good for corn producers, it's good for our balance of trade on fuel. There are all kinds of good reasons for corn ethanol, but we're trying to transition to cellulosic and other, more advanced, biofuels. That's what this funding is about."

PC Mag: Franken: Net Neutrality, Comcast-NBC Deal Threaten the Web
Minnesota Sen. Al Franken this week lashed out against two issues he said are a major threat to the openness of the Internet: the FCC's recent net neutrality rules and the Comcast-NBC Universal deal.
"I believe we are facing and will continue to face a growing threat of corporate control on the flow of information in our country," Franken said this week at the second Netroots Nation MN Conference.
One of those threats, he said, are the FCC's net neutrality rules, which were approved in late December.

The Inquisitr: Senator Franken: Comcast deal bad for consumers and the Internet
Throughout his tenure as a senator Al Franken has made media consolidation and network neutrality his signature platforms and he definitely isn't happy with the Comcast and NBC deal, which passed through the FCC and DoJ yesterday.
During his speech, which was happening at the same time that the FCC announcement approving the deal was made, Senator Franken said among other things that the decision "will create essentially two Internets." He also believes that we will see a direct move by the combined company to try and shut down Netflix.
