Choose Joy Study Guide

Through her blog, Sara Frankl showed me how to live a homebound life with joy. If you've been reading here for long, you've heard me talk about her before. Sara had a big impact on my life, and she touched the lives of many others too. She was dearly loved by the chronic illness community.
I never got to meet Sara in real life before she passed away, but I did have the joy of meeting her sister, Laura, last year. We have become friends, and Laura has been such a sweet encouragement...

The Best Surprise
I’m not one who likes surprises. Pretty much ever. If you want to give me a bad birthday present, just throw me a surprise birthday party (please don’t).
But this surprise… oh, this one is good!
We found out this summer that God is blessing us with another child! What a wonderful, happy surprise. We have a little boy on the way, and his name is Stafford. Lord willing, he will be arriving in March.
Life is going to get harder; that is true! But a new baby is most certainly a happy and good surpr...

Busy Hands: County Fair Edition

Every year I enjoy entering a few crochet projects at our county fair. I wasn't able to go to the fair this year because I needed to stay home and rest, but I had fun participating by sending in my entries.
For the first time this year, I received first place on all of my entries! So that was kind of fun. But there aren't very many entries, so who knows, I might have been the only one to enter in these categories!
The patterns for the baby booties, baby hat, and scarf are from Crochet One-...

Grieving Old Losses

Sometimes old grief can come back afresh at unexpected times. Earlier this year, I found myself grieving old losses. It surprised me to arrive at such a point of grief again – even after being disabled from a chronic illness for thirteen years.
For several weeks, I struggled with weariness in the long, chronic-illness battle, and I grieved the life that had been. I grieved the loss of my previous strength and energy, and I grieved the loss of the ability to serve my family physically in the wa...

Teatime Conversations

I would like to start a new regular feature on my blog called "Teatime Conversations," and I need your help!
Teatime Conversations will provide an opportunity for more interaction between us. I would like to let my readers ask me questions about anything - health, faith, dysautonomia, friendship, marriage, parenting, or whatever else you'd like to ask! I will answer a question or two at a time in blog posts, and at the end of each blog post I will ask a question of my readers. And then we can...

Book Review: Love Without Limits

Nick was born without arms and legs, and he often wondered if he would ever find a woman who could love him. God brought that woman into his life! In Love Without Limits Nick and Kanae share their story of meeting, falling in love, and the first two years of marriage.
Love Without Limits is written primarily by Nick, but Kanae contributes as well. This book is written to those who are single, dating, engaged, or newlyweds. Nick and Kanae share advice from what they have learned about waiting...

Busy Hands: South Bay Shawlette

This spring I kept my hands busy by crocheting a shawlette. I used the free South Bay Shawlette pattern from Lion Brand Yarns. This is the first time I have ever crocheted a shawl, and it was fun! Although I did make mistakes several times, and I had to take out quite a few rows to fix my mistakes! Brain fog and crocheting don't always mix well, but eventually I completed the shawlette.

Here is a close up of the lacy pattern.

I think I will give this shawlette to a friend as a gift. But first I...

Book Review: My Daughter's Legacy
I first began reading books by Mindy Starns Clark when I was living in Georgia 10 years ago. My friend, Dorina, was in Alaska, so we started a long-distance book club! We looked for fun books to read together, and we settled on The Million Dollar Mysteries series. We both quickly became fans of Mindy's books.
Recently I have enjoyed reading the Cousins of the Dove series, written by Mindy Starns Clark and Leslie Gould. When I heard they were looking for bloggers to be on their launch team for...

A Refuge in the Storm

Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.” Surely he will save you from the fowler’s snare and from the deadly pestilence. He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart.
Psalm 91:1-4
This spring, a rob...

Five Minute Friday: Play
It's Five Minute Friday! I wasn't going to write this week, but then I saw that the writing prompt was PLAY, so I just had to write!
You are invited to join us over at Five Minute Friday this week, where we are all writing for just five minutes using the writing prompt, PLAY.
I love to play. It is something many people probably don’t know about me. If you come to my house to visit me, I will be fairly quiet. I will probably be lying down on the sofa for a good portion of our visit. I will...
