Hark! The Herald Angels Sing

"The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light; those who dwelt in a land of deep darkness, on them has light shone." Isaiah 9:2
The people who walked in darkness
    have seen a great light;
those who dwelt in a land of deep darkness,
    on them has light shone.
You have multiplied the nation;
    you have increased its joy;
they rejoice before you
    as with joy at the harvest,
    as they are glad when they divide the spoil.
For the yoke of his burden,
    and the staff for his shoulder,
    the rod of his oppressor,
    you have broken as on the...

The Wonder of Christmas

Cranberry Tea Time: The Wonder of Christmas

“She will bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.” Matthew 1:21
Jesus “emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.” Philippians 2:7-8

Every year as Christmas draws near, I marvel again that God chose to come to earth as a baby. The Lord Jesus Christ willingly took on human flesh and...

O Little Town of Bethlehem

"And she gave birth to her firstborn son and wrapped him in swaddling cloths and laid him in a manger, because there was no place for them in the inn." Luke 2:7
But you, O Bethlehem Ephrathah,
    who are too little to be among the clans of Judah,
from you shall come forth for me
    one who is to be ruler in Israel,
whose coming forth is from of old,
    from ancient days.
Therefore he shall give them up until the time
    when she who is in labor has given birth;
then the rest of his brothers shall return
    to the people of Israel.
And he shall stand and shepherd his flock in the strength of the Lord,
 ...

Come, Thou Long Expected Jesus

“Behold, the days are coming, declares the Lord, when I will fulfill the promise I made to the house of Israel and the house of Judah. In those days and at that time I will cause a righteous Branch to spring up for David, and he shall execute justice and righteousness in the land." Jeremiah 33:14-15
“’When your days are fulfilled to walk with your fathers, I will raise up your offspring after you, one of your own sons, and I will establish his kingdom. He shall build a house for me, and I will establish his throne forever. I will be to him a father, and he shall be to me a son. I will not take my steadfast love from him, as I took it from him who was before you, but I will confirm him in my house and in my kingdom forever, and his throne shall be established forever.’” In accordance with...

Book Review: Picturing Heaven

Cranberry Tea Time :: Book Review: Picturing Heaven
A few weeks ago Tyndale sent a complimentary copy of Picturing Heaven to me to read and review. This is a new devotion book by one of my favorite authors, Randy Alcorn. This book contains short, one-page devotions, and there is a coloring page for each devotion in the book.
This book has been encouraging to Adelaide and to me. I'm not one who likes to color very much, but my daughter loves it, so I knew this book would be a good one for us to do together. We enjoy reading the devotion an...

O Come, O Come, Emmanuel

Today is the first Sunday of the Advent season. I invite you to join me here each Sunday during Advent for a short Scripture reading and a song as we look forward to the celebration of our Savior’s birth. If you are reading this in an email, you can click over to the blog to see the video.

Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign. Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.
Isaiah 7:14

Now the birth of Jesus Christ took place in this way...

Busy Hands: A Blanket for Stafford

Busy Hands: A Blanket for Stafford
This fall I crocheted a baby blanket for Stafford. It was made with the same pattern I used to make blankets for William and Adelaide when I was pregnant with them. I also used this pattern last winter to make a baby blanket for a friend

Busy Hands: A Blanket for Stafford
The pattern is called "Homespun Crochet Three Color Baby Blanket," and it is from Lion Brand Yarns. I found it on a yarn wrapper 12 years ago, but it is not available to link to online. If you are looking for a quick and simple baby blanket pattern, thi...

Teatime Conversations: Being a Mom

It is time for the first question in the Teatime Conversations series. You all asked some good questions! I have received four questions so far, and I plan on answering each of them in the coming months. It has been hard to keep up with blogging in the midst of getting ready for a new baby, but I should be able to answer the first four questions before Stafford comes. If I am able, I will answer more questions too.
Do you have a question for a Teatime Conversations post? You may ema...

Friendship through the Hard Days

Cranberry Tea Time: Friendship through the Hard Days
Gloria and I met for the first time on a hot summer afternoon several years ago when I stepped outside my apartment to water my flowers. Gloria and her family were new to the community, and when she saw me outside she came over to introduce herself. We chatted about life and our families. We only had a few minutes to visit before I needed to go inside to rest, but a friendship had begun. Little did I know how incredible Gloria’s friendship would be in months to come.

We were only able to visit...
