Author Q & A with Esther Smith {Plus a Giveaway!}

I am pleased to have Esther Smith joining me today to talk about her new book, When Chronic Pain and Illness Take Everything Away . Esther is a blogger at lifeinslowmotionblog.com, where she writes about faith and chronic pain and illness. Her blog, and her books, have encouraged me in my life with a chronic illness. I hope you will be encouraged by her too!

This is our rebellion - just because we are in pain doesn't mean we can't be happy.

Thank you so much for joining us today, Esther!
Hi Rachel, thanks so much for having me!
How does chronic illness and pain affect you?

The Gift of Time to Pray

December was a busy month for my family. It was filled with birthdays, work, and celebrations. When January arrived, we settled back into our regular routine. School started again for my children, and my husband went back to work. I wanted to get busy too. I was ready to start reading and writing again. I was ready to help out with small tasks around the home.

But my body was too worn out from the holiday season. I used up a lot of energy over Christmas break, and my body has had a hard time r...

Busy Hands: Matching Cowls

Rachel and Adelaide wearing matching cowls
I have not been able to do much crocheting in the past couple of months. I have needed to rest my arms on most evenings instead. So this month I am sharing a crochet project from last year. I made a cowl using a chunky, brown yarn from the gift basket I received from a sweet lady in Georgia.
This picture of Adelaide and me was taken in February of last year. I can't believe how much Adelaide has grown in the past 11 months!

Möbius Cowls and the One Skein Wonders book
I crocheted the Möbius Cowl from my One Skein Wonders book. I then adju...

Live Full, Walk Free {Guest Post and Giveaway}

"As Christ followers, we have all the power we need for all the problems we face." - Cindy Bultema
I am delighted to welcome Cindy Bultema to Cranberry Tea Time! Cindy is an author, speaker, blogger, prayer warrior, and encourager. I met her through social media a couple of years ago, and the Lord used her to encourage me during some very hard days that year. She has been a blessing in my life, and it is a pleasure to have her here today.
Last month, Cindy's new Bible study, Live Full, Walk Free, was released. It is a study based in the book of 1 Corinthians. I enjoyed going through th...

Marriage, Chronic Illness, Christ, and the Church

Our wedding day in 2002
Wives, submit to your own husbands, as to the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife even as Christ is the head of the church, his body, and is himself its Savior. Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit in everything to their husbands.
Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her, that he might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word, so that he might present the church to himself in spl...

Merry Christmas! Hope Is Here!

Mary holding Immanuel, background image of cross, empty tomb, and Jesus on a white horse
Immanuel
But when the fullness of time had come, God sent forth his Son, born of woman, born under the law, to redeem those who were under the law, so that we might receive adoption as sons. Galatians 4:4-5
And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth. John 1:14

Merry Christmas! Hope Is Here! Truth Has Come!

Jesus came for you, and He came for me. He came as Imman...

Choose Joy by Sara Frankl and Mary Carver
In 2010 I found Sara Frank’s blog, and I began reading it daily. Sara shared openly about her life with a severe chronic illness and extreme pain, and she shared about how she chose joy in the midst of it all. Getting to know Sara through her blog made things less scary for me as my health declined, and I became increasingly homebound. Without even knowing it, Sara mentored me through her blog. She showed me how to live a homebound life with joy.&...

Fourth Sunday of Advent

[image error]
For to us a child is born,
    to us a son is given;
and the government shall be upon his shoulder,
    and his name shall be called
Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,
    Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
Of the increase of his government and of peace
    there will be no end,
on the throne of David and over his kingdom,
    to establish it and to uphold it
with justi...

Busy Hands: A Bag for Myrtle

sling seat cane with crocheted bag
This fall I took walks in front of our house with our little dog, Frodo. I bought this seat cane to help me, and I named her Myrtle. This seat cane has worked well for me, but it was difficult to hold on to a leash, my phone, a cane, and any items I needed for Frodo. So I made this little bag to hang on Myrtle.

I liked the houndstooth pattern on my walker bag so much that I decided to make something similar for a seat cane bag. I made the bag in the round and then added a black flap to close o...
