Five Minute Friday: Blessing

Today I am joining the Five Minute Friday writers. We all write on the same prompt for just five minutes, and then we gather together to share our posts.

We used to gather at Kate's blog, but Five Minute Friday has a new home! We now meet on the Five Minute Friday website. You are invited to join us there.

This week the writing prompt is: BLESSING.

God's blessings are abundant in my life. I have been given so much more than I deserve!

As I count my blessings, I think of:

Busy Hands: Baby Blanket

baby blanket
This winter I made a baby blanket as a gift for a friend's baby. Apparently I finished the blanket during the Christmas season since those are my Christmas decorations seen in the photo! It just took me a long time to finally get my pictures edited and uploaded to my blog.

This was a fun blanket to make because it was one I had made twice before when I crocheted baby blankets for my own two children. I first found the pattern on the skein wrapper of a yarn I purchased when I was pregnant with...

Summertime

William and Adelaide on the shore of Lake Superior

Summer is here! The kids have been out of school for over three weeks now, and summer break is in full swing. I don't plan on taking a blogging break this summer like I did last year, but my writing will probably continue to be sporadic for the summer, just as it was this winter and spring.

Book Review: Beyond Suffering Bible

"But if we share in his glory, we must also share in his suffering."
This year I have been reading the Beyond Suffering Bible during my Bible study time in the morning. I received a free copy through the Tyndale Blog Network, and I am loving it! The Beyond Suffering Bible is a new study Bible from Tyndale and Joni and Friends. It was created specifically for those who suffer from disabilities and chronic illnesses and for their caregivers.
The Beyond Suffering Bible is an encouraging and helpful resource. If you are wondering what the Bible says about suf...

Raised in Glory

sunrise in the mountains
So is it with the resurrection of the dead. What is sown is perishable; what is raised is imperishable. It is sown in dishonor; it is raised in glory. It is sown in weakness; it is raised in power… Just as we have borne the image of the man of dust, we shall also bear the image of the man of heaven.
1 Corinthians 15:42-43, 49
My children never knew me when I was healthy and able-bodied. I have been chronically ill since before they were born, so all they have known is a mom who is t...

Oh My Soul

About a month ago I was having more bad days than good days. My body was exhausted, and each day was a fight to keep moving. I was growing weary of the constant battle with fatigue. During an especially challenging week, a friend sent this song to me. The video has a lovely depiction of beauty in the ashes. The song encouraged me, and I hope it encourages you today too.

Christ Is Risen

stained glass window picture of empty tomb
Happy Easter! He Is Risen!
But on the first day of the week, at early dawn, they went to the tomb, taking the spices they had prepared. And they found the stone rolled away from the tomb, but when they went in they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus. While they were perplexed about this, behold, two men stood by them in dazzling apparel. And as they were frightened and bowed their faces to the ground, the men said to them, “Why do you seek the living among the dead? He is not here, but ha...

It Is Finished

Today is Good Friday. It is the day that we remember the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross. The Lord "laid on him the iniquity of us all" (Isaiah 53:6). Jesus suffered the wrath of God in our place. His suffering and death brought about great good - the salvation of all who believe!

Surely he has borne our griefs
    and carried our sorrows;
yet we esteemed him stricken,
    smitten by God, and afflicted.
But he was pierced for our transgressions;
    he was crushed for...

Just a Little Update

Lake Shetek
Hello friends!

It has been too long since I have written here! About a month ago I accidentally stopped blogging. I had planned to keep blogging once or twice a week as I had been doing in the fall, but this winter I struggled to keep up with writing. Now it has been so long since I have written here that I’m not quite sure where to start. Maybe the best place to start is a rambling update letter.

Blogging has been hard for me lately. On some days I’m just too tired to blog. On other days I hav...

How to Pray for the Sick and Disabled

two women sitting on a sofa and praying together
When we know someone who is suffering from an illness or disability, our response is often to pray for healing. It is compassionate to desire relief for one who is suffering, and it is certainly appropriate to ask the Lord for healing. Our God is loving and compassionate, and He is grieved by the suffering of His children (Psalm 86:15, John 11:32-35). He is also a powerful God who is able to heal (Mark 1:29-34).

However, healing is not always God’s plan for those who are sick and disabled. Som...
