Favorite Books of 2019

In 2019 I had a goal of reading 20 books. I ended up reading 24 books! Some of those books were very, very short, but I was grateful for the ability to read as many as I did! Here are some of my favorite books from last year.

Suffering Is Never for Nothing

Elisabeth Elliot is someone who faced various hard trials in her life. Through it all she remained faithful to God, trusted in Him, and worked faithfully to simply do the next thing. Suffering Is Never for Nothing is based on a speaking...

Life with Three

Hello friends! I miss chatting with you regularly in this space. My time and energy is completely maxed out on most days, which leaves little strength or mental clarity for writing a blog post at the end of the day. I am still trying to figure out how to blog in this new season of life with three children. I need to remember to come here occasionally just to write a simple post or share a few pictures from daily life. I can probably manage that better than writing a “real” blog post. So...

When Hope Is Scarce

I am pleased to welcome Bethany Rose to Cranberry Tea Time today. Bethany is a fellow Minnesotan, blogger, and chronic illness warrior. She has a lovely letter today for those of you who are spoonies. In case you aren't familiar with the term "spoonie," those who are in the chronic illness community often refer to each other as "spoonies." It is a name that comes from Christine Miserandino's helpful story called, "The Spoon Theory."
Bethany will be speaking at the Diamonds 2020 conference this...

Merry Christmas!

 Merry Christmas! The True Light has come into the world. Let us celebrate His birth!
2 The people who walked in darkness
    have seen a great light;
those who dwelt in a land of deep darkness,
    on them has light shone.
3 You have multiplied the nation;
    you have increased its joy;
they rejoice before you
    as with joy at the harvest,
    as they are glad when they divide the spoil.
4 For the yoke of his burden,
    and the staff...

Mercy House Global Fundraiser

A Baby Changed Everything
One of my favorite ministries is Mercy House Global. They rescue pregnant teenage moms in Kenya from desperate circumstances. These girls once lived in the slums and streets of Kenya, and they became pregnant as a result of rape or because of forced prostitution. Some families are so desperate that the mothers ask their daughters to trade sex for food. It's a tragic and heartbreaking reality.

Mercy House comes alongside these young mothers and provides them with a safe home, an education,...

Busy Hands: R2-D2 Hat

My latest crochet project is this R2-D2 hat for Stafford. I worked on this during the spring and summer this year. I found the pattern several years ago, and I was excited to finally make it.

It is such a cute hat! And I love the little ear flaps. They will be perfect for keeping Stafford's ears warm in the chilly Minnesota winter.

I think the hat is adorable. Stafford isn't too sure about it, however! He pulls the hat off pretty quickly. Hopefully he will want to keep it on once winter a...

Review: Suffering Is Never for Nothing

I was delighted to learn this year that a new book by Elisabeth Elliot has been published!  Many of you are familiar with Elisabeth Elliot already, and you probably know that she passed away a few years ago. She faced suffering in many different forms throughout her life. She spent challenging years in a remote jungle as a missionary, both when she was single and when she was married. Her first husband, Jim Elliot, was speared to death, and she was left alone with a young daughter to rai...

A Bundle of Letters

Last summer I received a whole box full of snail mail, courtesy of my friend, Elizabeth, and 280 other people!

Elizabeth was planning to come up to visit me in July last year. Our two oldest sons were going to attend camp together, and Elizabeth was going to help me while the boys were at camp for the week. I was exhausted from taking care of a baby, and I was in need of some full time help for a while. Sadly, Elizabeth and her son had to cancel their trip. It was a big disappointment for all...

Favorite Books of 2018

Last year I had a goal of reading 15 books. I knew I wouldn't be able to do much reading after Stafford was born, so I kept my goal pretty low. I was able to reach my goal, but I must admit that several of my books were very short!
Here are four of my favorite books from last year:

The Gospel According to Paul by John MacArthur
This is a wonderful book! John MacArthur clearly explains the gospel as it is taught through the letters of Paul in the Bible. Reading this book helped me to appreciate e...

He Is Risen

Happy Easter! He Is Risen!Image: Full of Eyes
But on the first day of the week, at early dawn, they went to the tomb, taking the spices they had prepared. And they found the stone rolled away from the tomb, but when they went in they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus. While they were perplexed about this, behold, two men stood by them in dazzling apparel. And as they were frightened and bowed their faces to the ground, the men said to them, “Why do you seek the living among the dead? He...
