The Weekly Rune – Hagalaz

Hagalaz is the half-month rune through 13 November. The spirits of place anchoring the runes this week are Death (plastic skull), whispers of the Hunt (stag button), dead things (paper wasp nest, potter wasp nest, mink skull), and World Ancestors (wee wooden spoon) in the direction of Beyond (Earth orbit marble), with element Acid (lemon zest), in the season of Autumn (tree button).
Hagalaz is the rune of things not going the way we planned and having to keep on keeping on. And one way or another that leaves mark. And the sun still rises.

Runes of the Age of Aquarius

When I was able to produce Birth Rune Snapshots, I included a bit of research into what the runes of the Age of Aquarius would be. It's not specific to one rune, as Aquarius comprises two in Pennick's runic calendar. Both are very on pointe for the transition of the world stage right now. What do you think?
The same way that we can track personal birth runes, we can also examine those of Ages. As this span moves more slowly, these runes have less of an impact on our day-to-day, and comment more on the overall tones, attitudes, and concerns of our time.

Raidho is the half-month rune through 13 September (carved reindeer antler slice). Hagalaz is the intuitive rune (carved polished lapis lazuli), and Sowilo indicates the perspective of The Wind That Shakes. The spirits of place anchoring the runes this week are Wheel with element Mycelium, in the direction of Front/North/Nordri, in the season of Autumn, with a Death as a prominent presence. Read right to left is Raidho, Hagalaz, then Sowilo.

Speaking the Initiatory Wound

The first time I tried to write what would be Gift of the Dreamtime, I was seven years old. I called it "The Incontrovertible Truth." I don't even know where I learned that word. My story was hand-written on wide-ruled notebook paper in a powder blue paper binder. That conviction and drive to put it all into words persisted into its final publication nineteen years ago, 1 September 2004 by Spilled Candy Books.

That revelation sat hard a few weeks ago, and it left me exploring who I was when I wrote it and what has changed for me now. By the time Gift of the Dreamtime was fully conceived, I recognized its context as my initiatory wound where soul tending is concerned. The whole time through its writing I questioned whether I should be writing it to share. Was it enough to just put it into words for myself? Every time I heard, "No."

The Weekly Rune – Ansuz-Raidho

Ansuz is the half-month rune through 29 August, at which point Raidho moves to the fore (wrought iron tile). Tiwaz is the intuitive rune (carved antler slice), and Thurisaz reversed indicates the perspective of the Origin of the Runes. The spirits of place anchoring the runes this week are Fossilized Belemnite with element Metal, in the direction of Beyond, in the season of Winter. Read right to left is Ansuz above, Raidho below, Tiwaz, then Thurisaz reversed.
