Awkward
Yesterday I went to a fundraising lunch at the Waldorf in New York. It was to raise money for City of Hope, an extraordinary cancer center that is at the forefront of developing drugs and technologies that are aiming to cure cancer. The honorees were Heather Thomson, founder of a clothing company called Yummie Tummie, Kristin Chenoweth, and Kathie Lee Gifford.
It was an amazing lunch. On many levels. Kristin Chenoweth, star of Wicked and all round wonderful person, stood on stage and cried as ...

Spring Break
For the first time in a long time we decided to have a Staycation this Spring Break, and it has been a rather wonderful week. Odd, because our town is like a ghost town. I have never seen it so quiet, and I assume that the entire town has migrated to Florida for the week, leaving it feeling like the small New England town it used to be.
I took The Smalls to the movies the other week – Diary of a Wimpy Kid – and there were twelve people in the movie theater. Every day we are parked at Elvira's ...

April Obsessions…
Being somewhat binary, I develop obsessions about things. I either passionately love, or am entirely disinterested, and right now there are so many passionate loves, I thought I ought to share my April passions with you.
Linen Pants
I have found the perfect linen pants this summer. The problem is, so has everyone else, and they're all on backorder. However, should you have more patience than me – i.e. more patience than a fruit fly – you might be willing to wait, in which case

A Weighty Issue
This week has been a bit of an odd one for me. Earlier in the week I was in the bathroom store in South Norwalk when I caught sight of myself in a mirror, and gasped. "My God, that mirror makes me look so thin! I want it!". The Sherpa then looked at herself in the mirror, as did the salesgirl, and they both shrugged, looked at me strangely, and said they didn't look any different, and that it wasn't the mirror, it was me.
Then today, I was looking for slouchy linen boyfriend pants. I found...
New Look!
Launch day today of the new look website, and I love it. In actual fact, I love the navy, the color of the new book. It has taken a long time to get the book covers right. I always felt my covers in the UK were a little bit too cartoony and girly, although I also recognise that having not lived there for ten years, I have no idea what would work there.
But I love the cover of The Love Verb, seen here on the home page, and, just in case you were planning on ordering this title you have never...

Blog comment of the month
This comment, posted under 'Congratulations', is so charming in its superiority and judgment, I am giving it its own special placement. I would congratulate the author personally, but sadly he left neither his name nor real email address.
What a piece of dumb-ass kit that is!
My wife who has a phd (yes, she finished university- and has read one of your novels- not that she bought it, she didn't have to - it only took her about twenty minutes to finish, ) drives a Toyota Yaris, because not...

Life out of the fast lane
This past weekend we were in California, and as much as I love living on the East Coast, there is something terrifically appealing about the pace of life over there, the friendliness of the people, the sunnier climes.
Over the past few months several people that we know have suddenly stopped, looked at their lives, and said "enough". They realised that there is far more to life than the endless slog of the rat race and making money, and they packed up their families and moved, in a couple of c...

I was astonished at how many got the tattoo location right. It is, as so many of you guessed, on my left ankle, and a constant reminder of crazier days gone by.
And when I say crazier, I mean it. I may sound like the sophisticated mother of many who has never looked a glass of vodka in the eye, but I was something of a partier when younger, and as embarrassed as I am about the tattoo, I will...
