Bad Mummy
Amongst the animals that make up our zoo, is Samantha. We call her the bimbo, because she looks gorgeous, but doesn't have much of a personality. We found her at the vet several years ago. She was eleven at the time, a pure-bred Himalayan with pretty pink ears, who had been abandoned (Clearly they didn't think she had much of a personality either…).
She is, however, very sweet, and obsessed with drinking water. It is her raison d'etre. Water. She hangs out in bathrooms and by the kitchen...

Cup of tea? Ooooh, lovely.
I heard a wonderful story last week from my friend, The Geek. I didn't realise his geekiness until he professed his love of all things Star Trek, and his ability to quote extensively from every series of Blackadder. Happily, he is also v. handsome, so he can get away with it, and I delight in sending him the occasional Trekkie thing I find on the web because it makes me laugh. Worryingly, he has now decided I am a secret Star Trek lover, which, just for the record, I am NOT (not that there's ...

Saturday supper with friends
Reading the New York Times the other week, I was mesmerised by a piece about roasting radishes with a bagna cauda sauce. When roasted, it seems, radishes become very similar to turnips, which would be altogether dull, but paired with a bagna cauda sauce – a garlic, anchovy and cream dip from Piedmont in Italy – it becomes positively gorgeous.
On Saturday night we were joined for dinner by lovely friends. The novelist Eileen Goudge and her husband, Entertainment Reporter Sandy Kenyon (if...

It's all about recycling, baby…
I recently heard about a website that I thought utterly brilliant: Divorceyourjewels.com. The name says it all. Have a load of jewelery from an ex that has too many bad memories, or stuff that you'll simply never wear again? Recycle it!
My former life was very different to the life I have now. Put it like this: that luncheon the other day with all the women blinged out and outfitted head to toe in serious designer? I was the woman who ran with those wolves.
Not anymore.
Part of my happiness...

Book Tour
I am in the process of putting together my book tour, and, as with almost everything I do, it is entirely last minute.
I am doing a handful of fundraisers for breast cancer charities, and am trying to put in bookstore events around the country. Thus far I'll be in New York, Fairfield, Westport, Los Angeles, Charlotte, and Pawley's Island, North Caroline, with more dates being added all the time.
But…if you want me to come and visit you, let me know. If you and a group of friends are willing to ...

High Heels
One of the things I noticed at the charity lunch I went to the other day, was that all of the women were in heels. And not just heels, but skyscraper heels. Huge tall spiked things, some with platforms, most with red soles (oh Louboutin, what clever, clever marketing), strappy, pumps, you name it, these women were tottering around on them.
I have seen these women on the streets of New York. I have watched them on TV shows. I will confess I do not see them very often on Main Street in Westport ...
Figless Manor rides again
No-one believed this day would actually come. We didn't believe this day would actually come. We've been planning our house for SO long, talking about it for SO long, that for a while it seemed the building of it just wouldn't arrive.
It didn't help that at the eleventh hour we looked at each other, gulped, and both said we had realised we were building the wrong house. This was after seeing It's Complicated and falling in love with Meryl Streep's rambling, low-slung cottage. Oh, and just for ...

My TV ad goes live in the UK!!
Am not a great fan of watching myself on TV, but have to say, think the ad is beautiful. Also think my hair needs to be grown out again – what was I thinking? Loved filming this ad, although you go through a huge amount of takes before you get it right, and am hugely excited about this. For those in the States, don't worry, Girl Friday is the UK title for Dune Road – you're not missing out…
In the meantime, Figless Manor is due to break ground this week! I am furiously finishing off ...

But then Callie, a breast cancer survivor...
