The Business of Books

Yesterday ABC Channel 7 aired a piece on where the publishing industry is headed, including an interview I did with Sandy Kenyon. It was fascinating, and frightening. Much as itunes and digital media changed the face of the music industry, the advance of the ebook is changing the face of publishing, and no-one seems to be quite sure how to feel about it.

On the one hand, ebooks are tremendously exciting – it gives readers immediate access to your books: if they read something online, a blog...

Good Morning America

I have just arrived home after the most glorious morning doing Good Morning America with Robin Roberts, which was just the most glorious experience.

I had a feeling it was going to be good when the producer phoned me up and told me they were cooking four recipes from the book. Not just one, but four. The chili, spinach, chickpea and coconut curry, warm banana and chocolate cake and fig and oatmeal bars.

I woke up bright and early this morning at 4.37. I thought about staying in bed for...

Twitter

Yesterday, flying home from California, I ended up watching back-to-back episodes of Real Housewives of New Jersey for far more hours than I should have done. I have never seen it before, although was vaguely aware of the women involved – when you're addicted to the gossip mags you can't be unaware of reality stars.

There was a big war going on between a 47-year-old woman, and the 18-year-old daughter of one of the other women on the show. The 18-year-old posted regular updates on her...

Eton Mess

I realise I have become somewhat Americanised when I start thinking about pies, pies and more pies for desserts during the Summer.

Which is all well and good, except I don't very much like pies. I LOVE crumbles, but only if there's tons of crumble and not a lot of fruit, and the crumble should be moist and crunchy at the same time, and have oatmeal in it, and…oh goodness. Getting hungry.

But the one thing I do love, is meringue. And Pavlova. Unfortunately I seem to be rubbish at making it, but ...

Scenes from a Summer…

Forgive the radio silence – I have been travelling the length and breadth of the States these past few weeks on book tour, and am now perched at my father-in-law's desk in the top floor office of their farm in Sonoma County, California, getting ready for an event later today.

Despite the travelling, this summer feels like summer, unlike last summer which passed by in such a cloudy whirl, I never stopped to enjoy it. Four of the Smalls are off at Sleepaway Camp, which is utterly bizarre to me, ...

Did writing this book help you grieve for your friend? Were there times when it was too difficult to write?

Scenes from a book tour

Promises to Keep is out, the reviews are coming in, and they are, mostly, wonderful. Thus far this past week has seen me launch the book with a fundraiser in Westport, do a six-hour radio satellite tour on Wednesday, then fly to Los Angeles and back in 24 hours for my West Coast book launch fundraiser.

The Westport fundraiser was wonderful. We don't have final numbers, but think we raised around $13,000 for the Whittingham Cancer Center. It was a beautiful sunny day, and everyone there was...

ONE MORE DAY TO PUBLICATION!!

Tomorrow is D-Day…Promises to Keep comes out, and I'm launching it with a fundraiser at the Playhouse. I have been utterly overwhelmed at how many of you are coming, and now I have one more favor to ask…

Buy the book tomorrow!

I know how busy we all are, and how life has a worrying tendency to get in the way, but the first day of publication is the important one, the number of books sold determining whether or not you make the all-important bestseller lists.

Let's try and go even higher this...
