When in France…

I am overjoyed at being home, and horrified to discover that the Smalls do not, as I thought, start school this week, but next.

I had planned to be back at the library, continuing with my books, enjoying time to myself, and now I have a week in which I have to think of cute and cool things to do with the kids to keep them amused.

Speaking of cute and cool things, the wonderful artist, Suzanne Urban, sent me six exclusive pins - the Eating French Chocolates and reading a Jane Green novel com

Bad Blogger

I am a very bad blogger, and I wish I could sit here and come up with a devastating excuse, but aside from the usual - kids around for summer; taking care of unwell friend; book tour; writing new book - I don't have much of an excuse.

But here's the thing I have realised these past few weeks when I have, on occasion, sat down at the computer and attempted to blog: I am out of the habit. And so much of writing is exactly that: habit. And discipline.

It has somehow been easier for me to sit down and

Best little Mousehouse in Westport

img_15321.jpg

The Mouse House, aka the reason why I haven't been posting regularly, is finally ready to be rented.

Anyone interested can visit the website:

www.mousehouse.us

I'm so in love with this house I'd like to move in there myself, although sadly there isn't quite enough room for The Brady Bunch…

Open House this weekend for prospective renters…

Boxed in to a Corner

Reading our local website, www.westportnow.com, I came across a story in which a man had been reported to the police for removing boxes waiting in line to enter the library book sale.

That's right, boxes.

Instead of showing up early and waiting in line, numerous people, it seems, had, in lieue of their actual selves, placed boxes and cartons in line, with their names on them.

The man questioned removed the boxes and left a very polite sign saying: "No boxes; if you want to wait in line, wait in lin

WANT TO BE IN A JANE GREEN NOVEL?? EXCLUSIVE ONE-TIME OFFER…

Have you ever wanted to appear in a Jane Green novel? (You must say this in a deep television announcer-type of voice…) Here's your opportunity…

Tomorrow night, at 7pm, I'm giving a talk and reading at the brand new Barnes & Noble on New York's Upper East Side (86th and Lexington), and to celebrate this great new superstore, I'm going to offer all the audience members a chance to submit their name to appear in my next novel!

At the end of the evening, I will pull a name from the proverbial hat, an

Hit the road, Jack

Me with the lovely Sara Reyes Me with the lovely Gwen Reyes

I have to say, whilst my tour of major airports in North America was wonderful, there really is no place like home. When I touched down at La Guardia on Friday, towards the end of my book tour, I was so extraordinarily happy. There is nothing quite like your own shower, and crawling into freshly laundered sheets in your own bed, at home. Plus the kittens haven't left me alone. Whenever I stop moving, someone jumps on my lap, purring like an engine.

I've been to Denver

Prettying up the neighborhood, one house at a time…

Before… Before…

A couple of years ago I bought a tiny little cottage by the beach in Westport. It wasn't exactly the - ahem - prettiest house I'd ever seen, but it was next to Beloved's cottage - the one I rented from him the summer we fell in love - and in the beginning we thought perhaps we would combine the two lots and build our house there.

As time progressed, we realised it was better for the neighborhood not to build a house that would have to be on the large side, if only to accommodate our six ch
