Writing Exercise

I'm sick of people claiming you shouldn't start a story with a dream sequence. What have the people who make this claim written that gives them even an iota of credibility when it comes to telling artists how to ply their craft? Let's show 'em.
Starting with a dream sequence, write the opening scene of a work of fiction. More than just the dream, please; the dreamer must awaken during the scene. Including Evil Editor as a character is not required, though your readers prefer it.

Before the armed ones finish the crossing they're usually scared enough to attack someone, and there's no one here to harm except themselves.
