Writing Exercise

Below are ten opening lines of novels, each of which is on the list of the 100 best opening lines ever, as chosen by the American Book Review. Of course a good opening doesn't guarantee a good story, and no doubt most of the books from which these lines were taken would have been better if they had included Evil Editor. So . . . Use one of them as the opening line of a scene in which Evil Editor appears.
