I think many of us - both as authors and readers - would protest that we love and appreciate a mix of good characterisation, strong, plausible plots and erotic rather than gratuitous sex, but ... the predominantly-sexy books (as marketed) still sell more than books with little or no erotic content. Publishers confirm this.
