Tribute to Pacific Rim

This week I saw Pacific Rim with some friends.  It was a better movie than I expected.  Here is a tribute:

Jaegers

Kaiju

Cancel the Apocalypse

I give the movie a B+.  It was entertaining and I didn't regret spending the money to see it at night.  It's pretty good for an End of the World movie.  There was a plot and some characterization.  It didn't have enough eye candy or one liners to compete with The Avengers but there were a lot of sci-fi ef...

Healer's Fate Reissue

The publishing industry is constantly changing and sometimes businesses come to an end. Whispers Publishing has closed their doors and my novella Healer's Fate was left without a home. Due to the amount of time it had been on sale, I choose to self publish a reissue instead of shopping for another home.  I've revamped the cover, done a round of line edits and dropped the price.

Reading Roundup

Writers read, even when we should be writing.  It's relaxing and can be stimulating - either you feel like you can write better than that author or you are envious and want to write like that author.  Works both ways to get your fingers on the keyboard again.

So here is the roundup of what I've read the last few months:

The Host by Stephanie Meyer - A book club selection.  I finished this one, which is a lot better than my four attempts at reading Twilight.  The story wa...

Weekend Gardening

Last weekend was my first chance to get into the garden this year. Cold, rainy weather and busy weekends kept me away. I trimmed the roses and pulled weeds.  There are plenty more weeds but it was a start. Usually by this time of year, I've cut several vase fulls of flowers. But not this year.  Below are pictures of the only two blooms I have. The last picture is one of the first hydrangea bunches.

Chicken Lettuce Wraps

My friend Sonja Foust runs a funny blog trying out Pinterest pins called the Pintester. When she sent out a call for anyone to try a Pinterest pin and blog about it, I couldn't pass up the opportunity. And I needed a recipe to use some of the 5 romain hearts I'd bought over the weekend. Lucky coincidence.

The Pintester Movement

This is the original post which was pinned at Pinterest and sucked me into trying the recipe.

In Remberance

At the beginning of May, the town where I live opened a Veterans Memorial in the nearby park. They've listed the citizens who have died in wars across more than 200 years. You can stroll through the area or sit on the provided benches. We should honor and remember those who have fought more than one day a year.

Space, the final frontier

"Space, the final frontier. These are the voyages of the starship Enterprise. Her five-year mission: to explore strange new worlds, to seek out new life and new civilizations, to boldly go where no one has gone before."

The past is still blurring my enjoyment of this series on first sight.  It took a few viewings for me to appreciate the Star Trek reboot movie.  It will probably take a few viewings to appreciate Into Darkness - the new Khan movie - on its own merits and...
