Who Is Excited For What’s Next From Erica Henderson?

Erica Henderson, the veteran artist of Marvel’s The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl, announced via Twitter in early March that she was walking away from the series. She left “of my own accord” to do her own independent work, and she made clear that the book will continue with writer Ryan North still at the helm.

She also announced this via the gif below.

ezgif-com-video-to-gif

Which is the main reason we interviewed her.

This is a big juncture for a lot of artists in the comic book industry. Leaving an established project with a major publisher can be scary. For Erica, we see it as a huge step in the right direction. Moreso because she has the talent and chops to do what most artists dream of – owning their own work.

Beyond the amazing and unique artwork she brought to the USG series, Erica clearly has the creative power to be an important cog to the storytelling of a book. Dig into our full interview with Erica below, and get excited for what’s to come for this up and coming artist!

Make sure to go follow Erica Henderson on social media!

East of West and Transhuman in Development for Amazon!

Ready for some huge tv news?! As part of our first look deal with Amazon, we’re teaming up with the amazing Jonathan Hickman to exec produce two of his titles: TRANSHUMAN and EAST OF WEST! If you’ve read either of these comics you know what an insane and amazing undertaking this is going to be. Obviously, these projects are in very early development so we don’t have a ton of info just yet, but check out the official press release below. While you’re waiting for more news, you can also catch up on both EAST OF WEST and TRANSHUMAN in comic form!

Amazon Studios to Develop Genre Series East of West and Transhuman from Comic Writer and Artist Jonathan Hickman

Projects are part of first look deal with Skybound Entertainment

jan082053_1-_sx1280_ql80_ttd_  jan130468_2-_sx1280_ql80_ttd_

Amazon Studios is developing two hour long original genre series – East of West and Transhuman – from Image Comics’ Jonathan Hickman. Both will be created and executive produced by Hickman and his series co-creators, Nick Dragotta and J.M. Ringuet, and executive produced by Skybound Entertainment’s Robert Kirkman and David Alpert (The Walking Dead), and Sean Furst and Bryan Furst (Dice). East of West will be written by Hickman, and Transhuman will be executive produced by Josh Adler (Stash House). Both projects are part of a first look deal with Skybound Entertainment.

“Nick, J.M. and I couldn’t be more excited to be working with Skybound and Amazon,” said Hickman. “We feel very strongly about each project and couldn’t be more appreciative of how far both companies have gone to make us feel welcome. We look forward to doing the work and hopefully doing it well.”

East of West is set in a reimagined Western landscape where America is divided into seven nations. This iconic science fiction series follows “Death” as he braves his fellow riders, monsters, and corrupt gunslingers in his quest to save his mortal family from the Apocalypse.

Transhuman is a science fiction drama set in the near future. The show centers around a divorced couple, who ran rival major corporations, offering humans the ability to genetically and robotically enhance themselves.

Jonathan Hickman is best known for creating, or co-creating, the Image Comics series The Nightly News, The Manhattan Projects and East of West, in addition to working on Marvel Comics’ Fantastic Four, FF and S.H.I.E.L.D. He later wrote The Avengers, The New Avengers and the limited series Infinity, as well as the crossover comic event Secret Wars. Other creator credits for Image Comics include Pax Romana, The Black Monday Murders, Transhuman and The Red Wing. He has also done interior art and designed covers for Marvel, Image, and IDW.

Amazon Studios recently announced an overall deal with Kirkman and a first-look deal with Skybound Entertainment, co-founded by longtime collaborator David Alpert. Kirkman and Skybound—the entities behind television hits The Walking Dead, Fear the Walking Dead and Outcast—are developing television projects to debut exclusively on Prime Video.

Prime Original series are available for Prime members to stream and enjoy using the Prime Video app for TVs, connected devices including Amazon Fire TV, and mobile devices, or online with other Prime Original series at Amazon.com/originals, at no additional cost to their membership. Eligible customers who are not already Prime members can sign up for a free trial at www.amazon.com/prime. For a list of all Prime Video compatible devices, visit www.amazon.com/howtostream. Content is available through the Prime Video app and PrimeVideo.com in more than 200 countries and territories.

tot38_cover

Image/Skybound Entertainment is pleased to announce one last job for THIEF OF THIEVES, the ongoing heist series created by Robert Kirkman in 2012. Series artists Shawn Martinbrough and Adriano Lucas are joined by new writer Brett Lewis (The Winter Men).

“It’s been an absolute pleasure working alongside Robert Kirkman, Nick Spencer, James Asmus, and Andy Diggle over the various arcs of this series. Having the freedom to visually create the world of Thief of Thieves and fill it with such an eclectic cast of characters has truly been a blast,” said Martinbrough. “For the final chapter, I welcome my School of Visual Arts college buddy and amazingly talented writer Brett Lewis to our crime family here at Skybound Entertainment. Together, with our superb colorist Adriano Lucas, letterer Rus Wooten, assistant editor Arielle Basich and our ever vigilant and very understanding editor Jon Mosian, we’ve been working hard to take our fans on one hell of a ride on this last job!”

Previously in THIEF OF THIEVES, readers saw master thief, Conrad Paulson, racing across Europe to be crown the greatest thief in the world… only to be taken out by his enemies. Now, Conrad Paulson is dead—or is he? And what does a notorious Russian prison have to do with it?

Find out in THIEF OF THIEVES #38, when the entire crew returns to kick off its final heist!

Announcing Our New Comic Series: Outpost Zero

What happens when you’re raised in a small town with no way out? Better yet, what if that town was built in a spaceship that crashed into a planet that can’t sustain human life? For Alea and her friends, unimaginable danger is as common as a game of dodgeball.

Today we’re proud to announce OUTPOST ZERO, Skybound’s first YA series. Eisner-winning writer Sean Kelley McKeever (The Waiting Place, Spider-Man Loves Mary Jane), artist Alexandre Tefenkgi, Eisner-nominated colorist Jean-Francois Beaulieu (Green Valley) and letterer Ariana Maher put the ups and downs of growing old in a sci-fi pressure cooker.

The first double-sized issue hits store July 11th. We can’t wait to share the mysteries and wonder of the Frost with you.

-Sean

THIS JULY, DISCOVER OUTPOST ZERO: THE SMALLEST TOWN IN THE UNIVERSE

All-new teen-friendly sci-fi adventure kicks off with a double-sized debut issue

Image Comics and Skybound Entertainment invite you to explore the mysteries and wonder of the Frost this July as Eisner-winning writer Sean Kelley McKeever (The Waiting Place, Spider-Man Loves Mary Jane), artist Alexandre Tefenkgi, and colorist Jean-Francois Beaulieu bring you your new favorite series: OUTPOST ZERO.

In Outpost Zero, the people work the land, go to the fights every Friday night, and tuck their children into bed—but the Outpost is no place for dreams or aspirations. To survive is ambitious enough. As Alea and her friends graduate to adulthood on a frozen world never meant to support human life, something stirs. Something sees…

“For my first comic book work in several years, I wanted to go somewhere extremely personal to me, but I wanted to explore the existential questions we all wrestle with at the same time,” said McKeever. “I’m thrilled that Skybound reached out to me to do just that, and that we took the time to find the right artist in Alexandre, who’s brought this strangely familiar world to life with the help of Jean-Francois Beaulieu’s lovely color work.”

“Since the beginning, I’ve always followed my heart when choosing the stories I’d draw,” said Tefenkgi. “To be able to feel involved, I need to be touched by the authenticity of the characters, by their personality, their aspirations and their contradictions. The first time I read OUTPOST ZERO, I knew it was a story I had to draw. The life of these humans in an alternative future simply captivated me. I’ve been lucky to be able to contribute to this comic with such a great team made of talented artists like Sean and Jean-François.”

OUTPOST ZERO #1 (Diamond code: MAY180043) hits comic book stores Wednesday, July 11th. The final order cutoff deadline for comics retailers is Monday, June 18th.
