ROBINSONFEST 2015 – THE DOOMPOCALYPSE IS NIGH

robinsonfest

It’s no secret, I don’t go to many events. I don’t have book tours, and I only host a few book signings in New Hampshire every year. Over the past few years, I’ve received an increasing number of requests for signed books and book signings around the country. But with my workload, three kids and local commitments, these things aren’t currently possible for me. Thus, we’ve come up with a solution: Robinsonfest, giving you hardcore fans the opportunity to get those books signed, score some freebies, hang out with me (and a few of my co-authors) and visit a bunch of the locations featured in my books. Details below!
The Official Announcement:

It’s happening at last! Robinsonfest! Don’t miss this chance to meet with international bestselling author Jeremy Robinson, as he gives you a personal tour of New England locations featured prominently in many of his stories. Robinsonfest will be a chance to hang out with your favorite author and get the answers to all of your burning questions about Chess Team, Nemesis, and the many other characters in the Robinsonverse.

In addition to finally having the chance to meet face-to-face with Jeremy and many of his fans you might know only through social media, you might also get the opportunity to meet and talk with some of your favorite Chess Team co-authors. (Final lineup to be confirmed, but bestselling authors Sean Ellis, J. Kent Holloway, and David Wood are considering attending the event! Bestselling author Kane Gilmour has confirmed attendance already.) Also in attendance will be the real Stan Tremblay, aka Rook! And good news ladies, he’s single.

Important Information

Robinsonfest 2015 will be held in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, USA, from June 4th-7th.

The trip will feature a number of activities around New Hampshire, with a planned Isle of Shoals ferry cruise and a planned excursion to Beverly, MA, home of the FC-P (featured in the novel Project Nemesis). The exact itinerary is subject to change, but the gist of the activities is apparent from the sample itinerary at the link below. Most importantly, you’ll get a chance to meet Jeremy and ask him questions, as well as meeting Kane (and possibly more authors) and hanging out with fellow Robinsonverse fans.

Registration

For more information, including a detailed (subject to change) itinerary, transportation and hotel details, and a quick and easy way to register for the event…

*RobinsonFest is limited to just 50 attendees, so don’t wait to sign up. You might miss it!

There you go, short and sweet, like most of my public appearances. Of course, this event will be anything but brief! We’re looking forward to meeting and hanging out with everyone who attends. It’s going to be an epic weekend and a great way to kick off the summer! Hope to see you there!

The Chess Team Movie, Cannibal & New Audiobooks!

Cannibal Banner

The past few months have been absolutely insane with new developments that I have been itching to talk about, but couldn’t. And while, as the subject line above suggests, I am announcing one of those big news items, there is more to come! For this reason, you may receive a second newsletter from me in the coming weeks containing two more announcements and a sneak peek at all the books coming in 2015. Now let’s get to it!

Buy from BN.com Buy From Amazon Kobo

JACK SIGLER HITS THE BIG SCREEN…MAYBE

Alien Outpost As was reported by Variety.com in this article, the Jack Sigler Thriller/Chess Team novels have been optioned for film by director Jabbar Raisani, whose first film, Alien Outpost has just been released by IFC Midnight via iTunes, Hulu and all other VOD platforms. While Alien Outpost is Jabbar’s first film, he has been the onset visual effects supervisor for films like Predators and Man of Steel, and most notably, won an Emmy for his work on Game of Thrones. As you can see from the Alien Outpost poster, Jabbar’s love of sci-fi military action and powerful visual effects make him the perfect person for bringing Regen Capybara, and the mythological Hydra, to life.

So what does this mean? Basically, we are one big step closer to seeing a Chess Team film adaptation of PULSE. The project still needs to find a home at a studio, but the odds are much better now with Jabbar at the helm. There is no guarantee at this point, but it’s a significant development for the series, and hopefully a hint of things to come.

CANNIBAL, the 7th JACK SIGLER THRILLER, IS HERE! WHO’S HUNGRY?

Cannibal CoverYes, along with the announcement of a movie deal comes the newest (7th) installment of the Jack Sigler Thrillers, co-authored once again with Sean Ellis and picking up where the controversial SAVAGE left off. CANNIBAL is full of all the Chess Team goodness you’ve come to expect…and then some. Legends come to life. Horrific monstrosities. And the few people brave enough to stand against them. And the ending…well, you’ll just have to find out how the pot gets stirred (vigorously) in this one.

Summary:

Still recovering from the tragic loss of a good friend, Jack Sigler, callsign: King, leads the Chess Team–a crew of former Delta operators–back into action. But what should be a routine snatch-and-grab to capture a drug cartel leader, escalates out of control, throwing the team into a challenge unlike anything they’ve ever faced. An enemy from their past, who is close to unmasking their identities, joins forces with the psychotic cartel kingpin, setting a trap that will shake the team to its foundations.

While the team battles enemies old and new, King’s fiancée, CDC disease detective, Sara Fogg, struggles to stop a strange outbreak that transforms the infected into ravenous, inhuman monsters. Once responsible for the disappearance of the Roanoke settlers, the disease now threatens to spread across the planet, ending human civilization in a bloodbath of violence.

Hunted by humans and monsters alike, King and the Chess Team face a desperate choice–sacrifice themselves or let the world bleed.

2015 > 2014 – And A FREE Short Story!

2014 taught me a lesson. I am not in control. Not only had I intended to send this message a week ago, but am instead writing this after spending 10 days in bed with the flu…I also tried to make a movie, raising funds through Kickstarter, and failed. I tried to make a different movie, funding it myself, and failed. I had to postpone one of the books I was planning to write and release over the summer.

I’ve never done that before–missed a goal, or deadline. Now, this doesn’t mean I’m new to failure. Over the course of my career, out of everything I’ve written, conceived of and attempted, just a small fraction of them have seen any kind of success. But 2013 was so ridiculously successful, I kind of forgot. Well, thanks 2014, for putting me back in my place and reminding me that I’m not impervious, and that I don’t do this for money (though I do appreciate getting paid). I do this because I love it, even when things fall apart, and because I enjoy sharing my work with readers who appreciate it, which hopefully is you! Which brings us to the purpose of this newsletter.

Last year, we released THE LAST HUNTER – Collected Edition, which included an original short story taking place in the world of Antarktos. For the past year, the only way to get that story was to purchase the Collected Edition. MANY people have, but thousands upon thousands of people who purchased the five books in the series before it was collected haven’t got to read it. Well, now you can!

THE CHILDREN OF ANTARKTOS is now FREE to read. Simply click on the link below the cover image to download a ZIP file containing an epub, mobi and PDF of the story.

CLICK HERE to download THE CHILDREN OF ANTARKTOS!

So, there you go. Short and sweet. 2015 is going to be bringing a LOT of amazing books, events and announcements. I’ll catch up with you in the next month to fill you in on SOME of it. Other things have to wait until I have permission to talk…

Oh! You know what? CANNIBAL, the next Jack Sigler thriller, just now became available for pre-order on Amazon. So, here’s a link!

Ask Me Anything – Where Readers Ask Me…Uh…Anything. Number 1!

The Wooden Mannequin's Dilemma

The Wooden Mannequin’s Dilemma

Welcome to Ask Me Anything, where you, the reader, can ask me ANY question you want and I will answer it. This first batch of questions comes from Facebook, and for the most part they’re pretty easy to answer, with one exception, which I will answer honestly…redacting personal information. So let’s get to it!

Jeff Sexton:

I’ll start easy. Favorite character to write? Are there any stories you’ve wanted to write but have held back on? Why?

Jeremy Robinson:

Part 1: I have three favorite characters to write: Jon Hudson and Jane Harper (both J.H. — weird)*, because they’re first person, which I prefer, and very sarcastic, which lets me have a lot of fun and come up with unusual ways to describe things. But my all time favorite is Solomon Ull Vincent, from The Last Hunter. While he lacks the sarcasm of the two J.H.s, he’s based on me as a kid, and on my son, the real Solomon, making him very alive in my mind. Sitting down to write him is a very emotional experience for me.

*Jon Hudson is from Project Nemesis and Jane Harper is from The Sentinel.

Part 2: I write pretty much exactly what I want. I have plans to write a lot of books I haven’t written yet, but the only thing that is preventing me is time. I’m currently desperate to write a dozen books, but can only manage one at a time.

Dustin Dreyling:

If you could get ONE of your books, and only one — not a series, which would it be?

Jeremy Robinson:

The previously mentioned novel, The Last Hunter, even if I only had to get Book 1, Descent, without the rest of the series.

Jessica Burchell:

What is your favorite holiday? Fav food? Best book you ever read or that stuck with you?

Jeremy Robinson:

Part 1: Favorite holiday. It’s nearly upon us! As a kid at heart, I’m a Christmas guy.

Part 2: Favorite food is currently “Beef short rib marmalade” which can only be found at my favorite restaurant, Moxy, in Portsmouth, NH. (www.moxyrestaurant.com)

Part 3: Best book that stuck with me is The Descent, by Jeff Long. Love the book. Love the sequel. Still pining for a conclusion to what was supposed to be a trilogy.

Connor James:

Any plans for more Last Hunter novels?

Jeremy Robinson:

Lots of Last Hunter talk in this Q&A! While I have a strong desire to return to the land of Antarktos, I don’t currently have any full-length novels in the works. Solomon may make an appearance in a future book that’s planned for 2016, but only time will tell if I do another Antarktos novel.

Lyn Askew:

Any possibility of Refuge continuing?

Jeremy Robinson:

Yes. I’m planning on at least one more Refuge story, but that probably won’t be until 2016, and will likely conclude the story…maybe…

Lace Anne:

Are you looking forward with girlish glee to Pacific Rim 2, as I am?

Jeremy Robinson:

Manly glee. Manly. And yes.

James Hannon:

What inspired the creatures of Island 731? Especially the particularly devious BFS?

Jeremy Robinson:

My nightmares… Really, it was just a matter of me asking myself, what would scare the crap out of me? Especially the BFSs. I’m not a fan of arachnids, so combining spiders and scorpions is a nope-nope for me. And for most people, I think.

Shaun Harland:

Based off your success in creating the Kaiju Thriller genre, do you think you might consider writing a Mecha Thriller someday?

Jeremy Robinson:

Already in the works! Will probably announce the details once I have a cover to go with it.

Anne Stevenson:

Has it been difficult to link so many of your works together, and was that a plan all along or something that just evolved?

Jeremy Robinson:

For those that don’t know, this question is in regard to an upcoming, unnamed crossover event novel (that I will detail in a later blog post), which many of my books have been leading toward for years. While some of the books crossing over predated the concept, those at the core are being directed on course for future events. That said, it’s been a mostly fluid, evolving process. And I think that’s actually better, because things organically come together, rather than being forced.

Jason De La Torre:

From The Didymus Contingency on, would you do it all over again? What would you have done differently, if anything?

Jeremy Robinson:

And we finish with the hard question. The infamous regret question. In general, my answer to this question regarding hardships in my life is this: the good and bad events of my life shaped who I am, and I like who I am today, so no, I wouldn’t change anything. BUT, when you narrow this question down to my career, there is one glaring flaw I would love to erase. It’s not the ten years of penniless struggle, the bad reviews, the countless hours of monotonous marketing, or even the unhinged fellow author who threatened to cripple me from the neck down if I didn’t send her $1000 (in response to the announcement of my first book deal).

No, my mistake was partnering with a person who very nearly destroyed my career and turned my beard gray. I’m not mentioning any names, or details, or even gender, as this person is still around and litigious by nature. The short version is that I fell for the slick words of a snake oil salesperson who presented him/herself as something he/she wasn’t, and proceeded to create a vortex of lies, slander, thievery, contempt, etc, on par with a soap opera or teen high-school drama. Vast amounts of money were lost. Large numbers of people were burned. Dreams were crushed, including mine. But, I got out. Thank God, I got out. And since then, my career has rebounded back onto the trajectory it had been on prior to those events. If I could go back in time, slap myself in the face and say, “No! No! Bad Jeremy!” I would. Then I totally wouldn’t have this gray patch in my beard!

Thanks for reading, and if you have any questions you would like to ask for the next installment of ASK ME ANYTHING, feel free to leave them in the comments.

Nip, Tuck, and a Little Something Extra to Attract Your Eyes

Blog Facelift

So, yeah, my blog is out of shape. It’s been fed a lazy diet of junk food novels for the past year and is looking a little drab. So, it’s getting a facelift…of content! Starting in 2015, the blog will feature regular and weekly new content from myself and contributors (maybe you!). Several of the new columns are listed below, including several that require input and feedback from readers. This means that your participation will help shape the topics discussed and questions answered. The blog won’t just be a place where I chew the cud and hope you’ll take a nibble. We’re going to share the grass, regurgitate it together and…okay, that’s gross. But you get the idea. I’m not just looking to throw content at you. I want to interact and let readers be part of the evolving process that is this blog. So, check out the upcoming regular columns and pay attention to the ones requiring input from you. Leave your suggestions in the comments and let me know which columns you’re most interested in. And we’ll see where this blog experiment takes us. I have no doubt we will be led down new, strange and occasionally freakish paths. But that’s really up to you.

1) Sneak Attack Short Stories – These bad boys will show up without warning and will either feature an original short story by myself, OR a short story taking place in one of the many Robinson literary universes, written by a guest author. If you’re an author and would like to submit a short story, e-mail the blog’s editor, Kane Gilmour at: kane@kanegilmour.com, for details. *Not all stories will be accepted. We have pretty high standards around here!

2) Ask Me (almost) Anything – This one is pretty cut and dry. Ask me anything about anything and I will give you an answer. You could ask about writing. You could ask my opinion on demon possession. Or Pearl Jam. Or raspberry jam. Whatever you want. The “almost” in the title refers to the few things I won’t talk about, which are: my private life, including my wife and kids. That’s about it. After we receive a good number of quality questions, we’ll put them to a vote and let you decide on what question is answered next. So ask your questions in the comments now and maybe you’ll get an answer!

3) How To Survive_____ – You fill in the blank, and I will detail how you can survive the event in question, whether it’s a zombie apocalypse, a panic attack or crapping your pants, which, if we’re honest, is the worst of the three. Answers will likely be action-packed…and funny. So make your suggestions in the comments and learn how to survive your worst fears…or an invasion of killer Easter bunnies…which I wrote about when I was 12.

4) Jeremy Robinson is too Jesusy – I recently saw a Facebook comment that said those five words, “Jeremy Robinson is too Jesusy,” in response to a fan’s suggestion that the commenter check out my books. I got a chuckle out of it, explained to the commenter that not all my books are “Jesusy,” and then I realized that while only one of my books (The Didymus Contingency) actually features Jesus, at least nine of my 50+ books do have Biblical themes. Since that’s a part of who I am, what I believe and occasionally write about, I figured I’d face the elephant in the blog head on and wax eloquent (or attempt to) about matters of faith, Biblical monsters (yeah!) or take the modern church to task. The commenter ended up buying two of my non-Jesusy books, and hopefully we can come to a nice middle ground. Something like, “Jeremy Robinson is too Jesusy…a quarter of the time.”

5) Post-Modern Smackdown! – This is where you suggest the post-modern combatants, and I, through my vast opinionated knowledge of post-modern subjects (the 80s and 90s) fictionalize a brutal smackdown revealing the superior cartoon, toy, character, band, etc… This category is pretty much just ridiculous fun, but the results will always be accurate! Feel free to suggest combatants in the comments!

6) The King of the Monsters Speaks! – As the self-proclaimed literary King of Monsters, I will occasionally review movies, games, books and comics featuring the monstrous. My opinions might not be the same as yours, but rest assured, they are always right.

So there you have it. That’s what’s coming and how you can help shape the future of the blog’s content. If you submit suggestions for various categories, please use the following format so we can easily find and separate them:

Category Name – Suggestion

Post-Modern Smackdown – He-Man vs. The Smurfs

How to Survive… – Traveling at Light Speed

You get the idea. I will be trying to post at least once a week, but that will occasionally be interrupted by novel deadlines, and new book releases. But the blog is definitely going to be more fun to look at. Thanks for reading and I look forward to your suggestions!

Island 731 + Project Nemesis = Project 731 and A Whole Lot of Holy S#!*

project-731-header

project-731-by-jeremy-robinson-big

When I wrote Project Nemesis it was a labor of love, more for myself than any kind of money-making career goal. I had no idea the the book would go on to become the bestselling original (not from a previously created character: Godzilla) kaiju novel ever, that the character, Nemesis, would be featured in a video game (Colossal Kaiju Combat: The Fall of Nemesis) or that it would attract a bevy of rabid fans creating fan art and fan fiction. I’ve been blown away by the response to my monstrous creation. So, it’s with great excitement, that I release the latest entry into the Kaiju Thriller genre, Project 731.Speaking of Kaiju Thrillers, how cool is it that other books are appearing with the “Kaiju Thriller” genre tag I created?! Not only am I thrilled to read more Kaiju books, but now I can take credit for coining the name for a new literary sub genre!

Okay, on to the book!

As you might have already guessed,Project 731 fully merges the stories of Island 731, and Project Maigo/Nemesis, bringing together characters and monsters from both series. More than that, it sets up some big things for a future event novel that is, to my knowledge, unheard of in novels, relegated only to the world of comic books. I speak specifically of a massive crossover event, bringing characters and story lines from multiple books together in one story. So if you’re a fan of my other novels, this is a pivotal novel for things to come, setting in motion something that has been building for nearly ten years. And before you ask, the crossover event will likely happen in 2016.

If you haven’t read Island 731Project Nemesis, or Project Maigoclick here for buy links.

Summary:

WASHINGTON D.C. HAS BEEN DESTROYED

In the wake of a kaiju assault that left the nation’s capital in ruins, Jon Hudson, director of the Department of Homeland Security’s Fusion Center – Paranormal, is preparing his team for an uncertain future. While hiding Lilly, a chimera cat-girl rescued from Island 731, from GOD–the Genetic Offense Directive, a black ops organization within DARPA–Hudson attempts to raise Maigo, the teenage girl who once was part of Nemesis, the now deceased goddess of vengeance. But the two strange girls can’t be protected from what comes next.

NEMESIS LIVES

Kept in a massive warehouse operated by GOD, Nemesis’s body is violated by the Tsuchi, spider-like chimera also developed on Island 731. It spawns three kaiju-sized variations of the deadly creatures and wakes Nemesis from her regenerative slumber. Nemesis, fueled by an unquenchable thirst for vengeance, and now lacking Maigo’s conscience, storms after the Tsuchi, which have fled south, toward Los Angeles, and inland…toward GOD’s headquarters at Area 51.

SACRIFICES MUST BE MADE

To stop the infinitely hungry Tsuchi, and the rampaging Nemesis, Hudson and crew must make alliances with enemies, combining personal experience, future technology and bold actions. But for the world to once again be safe from a kaiju menace, one of their own must give themselves up to the goddess of vengeance.

BFS

With Project Nemesis and Project Maigo, Jeremy Robinson created a new literary subgenre known as the ‘Kaiju Thriller,’ a term now being adopted by other authors. With movies such as Godzilla and Pacific Rim treating audiences to new Kaiju stories, Robinson has single-handedly launched the fiction world’s bestselling original kaiju series (not based on a pre-existing film). In Project 731, we not only see the return of Hawkins, Lilly and Joliet from Island 731, we learn how the reborn Maigo has adapted, and–at last–discover the origins of Nemesis!

Bonus Features:

Project 731 features another awesome gallery of monster designs by Matt Frank, as well as a fan art gallery cool enough to shake the foundations of reality! Grab it now!

FLOOD RISING – Got Your Floaties Handy?

Flood Rising

Buy from BN.com   Buy From Amazon   Smashwords   Kobo   iBooks

Flood Rising CoverFlood Rising has been in the works for a while now, and the idea came to be when I went to Sean and said something like, “Let’s come up with a crazy, fast-paced and gritty thriller, like the Bourne books, but faster, and weirder. Oh, and let’s make the main character a 15 year old girl.” The result was Jenna Flood, a girl whose past is a mystery and whose future is fraught with violent criminals, deadly hit men, untrustworthy spies and mind-bending revelations. To make matters worse, the consequences of her actions, or inaction, could have global ramifications. Flood Rising is (we hope) the first book in trilogy. As always, the continuation of the series depends on how this first book does, so if you enjoy it, be sure to spread the word!

SUMMARY:In a minute, everything changes.Fifteen year old Jenna Flood’s discovery of a bomb–ticking down from sixty seconds–is the first in a series of explosive revelations that destroy her understanding of the world and her place in it.

Jenna believes she is an ordinary teenager, busy with schoolwork and helping her father run a Key West charter boat. But when a team of killers show up, intent on erasing her from existence, she learns the unbelievable truth: she is not who she thinks she is.

Alone and on the run, betrayed at every turn, Jenna’s path takes her from sun-drenched Key West to the alligator-infested Everglades, the streets of Miami and the Caribbean islands. Along the way, brutal criminals, deadly assassins and the forces of nature conspire to end her life, unless she can rise to embrace an impossible destiny and unleash her own lethal potential.

Everything Jenna has been told about herself is a lie, and the truth is a secret that may destroy the world…or save it.

Jeremy Robinson and Sean Ellis, the international bestselling team behind The Brainstorm Trilogy, Prime and Savage, have thrilled audiences with stories of science gone wrong and monsters on the rampage. Now they break new ground with a taut suspense thriller sure to appeal to fans of 24 and The Bourne Identity, with all the pulse-pounding, gut-wrenching action you’ve come to expect.

It’s time to get SAVAGE!

Savage Header

Buy from BN.com Buy From Amazon Smashwords Kobo

Early opinions are in, and as with all the previous Jack Sigler thrillers, readers are deeming SAVAGE the (new) best of the bunch. I think that probably means readers are just thrilled to have a new story featuring King, Queen, Rook, Bishop and Knight…but we do take some pretty big steps in SAVAGE, and tell a powerful story. The most notable aspect of SAVAGE is that you can jump right in with this book. You don’t have to read the previous novels to understand it. All of the overarching themes and plot lines from the first five books were wrapped up in OMEGA, so SAVAGE is something of a relaunch for  the series. So, if you have a friend who’s thinking of picking up a Jack Sigler book, you can feel safe recommending SAVAGE as a starting point.

Summary:

While on the trail of a stolen tactical nuclear weapon, Jack Sigler, callsign: King, and his black ops Chess Team, answer a cry for help. The Democratic Republic of the Congo is on the verge of exploding into another bloody civil war that will engulf all of Africa and put millions at risk, a crisis too politically volatile for any outside nation to touch. As the team, unfettered by political constraints, deploys across the globe, the threats spin out of control.

A search for the Congo’s missing president becomes a quest to solve a century old mystery, and uncover a secret that powerful men will kill to protect. A mission to rescue a team of scientists from violent revolutionaries devolves into a desperate run through the jungle, pursued by both modern man and ancient beast. Help Fund DUST, a Short Sci-fi / Horror Movie, on Kickstarter!

DUST is a short film being funded via Kickstarter and is based on my upcoming 2015 novel, THE DISTANCE. The film parallels the beginning of the novel, following Peter, a regular guy visiting with his parents on the eve of the world’s end. Except, for Peter, the night is just beginning.

For all the nitty gritty details about the movie, who is involved, how you can support it and what awesome goodies (including being a producer and having face-time with me) you can get for that support, visit the Kickstarter page.

What I can tell you now is that this is the very best way to get a full length feature made of one of my movies. My novels are very visual, often with film in mind, and making this short will really allow us to showcase those elements in a way that will attract Hollywood through the medium they understand most. The short will be taken to film festivals around the world, and it should open the doors to Hollywood (or other places that make films… Probably not Bollywood, though).

Before you hop on over to Kickstarter, let me make this final plea: in addition to supporting the campaign (or even if you are unable to), please spread the word. It’s going to take a supreme fan effort to make this possible, so if you know anyone interested in indie and/or badass sci-fi films, let them know about DUST.

XOM-B… Robots and Zombies in a Post-apocalyptic future.

Xom-B

Xom-B CoverXom-B is one of those books that is hard to talk about without giving away too much. Even setting up the story has the potential to spoil things. What I can say is that it is a post-apocalyptic novel with robots…and zombies. Honestly, that’s all you really need to know, right? If not, here’s a little more. The pacing in Xom-B, as with my other books, is full throttle from beginning to end, but I have never had a more character-driven story (with the possible exception of Solomon/The Last Hunter). So, not only will you be able to enjoy the rapid-paced craziness of a post-apocalyptic survival story, but you’ll really care about this cast of characters and their fate.

The result leads to this bold claim: Xom-B is the best novel I’ve written to date. I don’t think I’ve ever said that before. Sure, some novels are better than others, but Xom-B is a leap forward that intimidates me. I read it and think, “Can I do this again?” Let’s hope so.

The last really cool tidbit about Xom-B is that there is a lot of me in the book. Not only did I write it, but I designed the cover, wrote the summary and…sat for the author photo. Oh, and I made the trailer, which you can see below. So, unlike my other hardcovers, this book really reflects my vision for it, so if you think it’s horrible, you can pretty much blame me.

Summary:

Freeman is a genius with an uncommon mixture of memory, intelligence and creativity. He lives in a worldwide utopia, but it was not always so. There was a time known as the Grind–when Freeman’s people lived as slaves to another race referred to simply as “Master.” They were property. But a civil rights movement emerged. Change seemed near, but the Masters refused to bend. Instead, they declared war.

And lost.

Now, the freed world is threatened by a virus, spread through bites, sweeping through the population. Those infected are propelled to violence, driven to disperse the virus. Uniquely suited to respond to this new threat, Freeman searches for a cure, but instead finds the source–the Masters, intent on reclaiming the world. Freeman must fight for his life, for his friends and for the truth, which is far more complex and dangerous than he ever imagined.

Robinson’s lightning fast, cutting-edge novels have won over thriller, horror, science-fiction and action/adventure fans alike, and he has received high praise from peers like James Rollins, Jonathan Maberry and Scott Sigler.  XOM-B is a wildly inventive zombie novel with a high-tech twist that will keep readers guessing until the very last sentence.

What the critics are saying:

“With Xom-B, Robinson has achieved a rare feat by successfully telling a rich story that moves at a relentless pace while stopping just long enough to ask profound questions of existence, science, and what it means to be human. A modern sci-fi classic.” – Famous Monsters of Filmland

“In a compelling narrative full of stunning surprises, Robinson, best known for his thrillers and adventure novels, shows that his fertile imagination is equally well suited to science fiction. [Xom-B] is an exciting, richly complex blend of dystopian fiction and mainstream Sci-Fi.” – Booklist

“Drawing on elements of The Wizard of Oz, Star Wars and Sam Raimi’s Evil Dead movies, Robinson’s novel [XOM-B] proceeds at a nonstop pace as former slaves survive one cliffhanger after another. A fresh twist on the zombie apocalypse.”

– Kirkus Reviews

“XOM-B is an incredible ride from the first paragraph to the last jaw-dropping page. [It] will be talked about and read for years to come in the same way that Orwell’s “1984″ was and is today. A MUST read for all who think they’re human.”

–Suspense Magazine

“Relentless pacing and numerous plot twists drive this compelling stand-alone from Robinson… Thriller fans and apocalyptic fiction aficionados alike will find this audaciously plotted novel enormously satisfying.”

– Publisher’s Weekly
